This was the last major anime made by Mushi Productions, the studio founded by Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Astro Boy. It was based on a French novel called Le Sorciere and is an anime classic.
The style is pure 70s, but it looks more like American commercial illustrations from that time period than 70s anime to me. It's gorgeous. I'm going to have to watch it sometime I'm less squeamish.
Oh my witch craft this is gonna have a hd re-release and maybe show in some cinemas! So beautiful, if your into more experimental animation this is the film.
Holy cow. It starts off so romantic and calm and quickly erupts into various harsh images. Very beautiful throughout dispite all this, though. Is this available in the United States at all?
that made my soul hurt...Its odd i can watch salo or a serbian film where this shit happens to real life people and not bat an eye or feel anything...but someone this animation really brings out the emotion of those situations of horrific crime against innocence....whether thats good or bad, for a cartoon to be that powerful i must admit it truly is art.
This film was created by the same animation studio that created "Jack and the Beanstalk" (remember the giant Tulip?) in the Seventies, now available on DVD.
really beautiful stuff. it would appear that amalthea's animation and character style in "the last unicorn" (which was animated in japan) may have been influenced by this -- at 1:03 it's quite strikingly similar to hers after she was first transformed into a human.
someone tell me what the song is called at the beginning , it sounds so much like Alexandra Savior's Album (wait for it) 'Belladonna of Sadness' which is where I presume her and Alex Turner got inspiration from.
this looks just as good the modern final fantasy games but without cgi years before final fantasy was a thing MY GOD MY LIFE IS COMPLETE an ultra realistic anime film from the 70s years before flash and cgi!, that made works of art like this into digital futuristic messes or even worst photorealistic pixar video game models where everything looks like plush toys or barbie dolls and nothing else this possibly is the most realistic cel/pencil shaded work of art i seen in my life and why ive been into anime since i layed my eyes on digimon, cardcaptor sakura, dragon ball and sailor moon when i was 3 and been since an otaku all my life going on 20 next week
It's like Utena, except it makes even less sense, and not only that, its fucking gorgeous and will probably keep me up for nights on end. And I'm seeing it on June 2nd in 4k digital restoration. HOLY SHIT. i am so hyped.
i think that this was the last work made by mushi studios, and i think that Osamu Tezuka was acredited for the concept, but had nothing to do with the films production, its a lot like the story of joan of arc, a feudal lord rapes a woman on her wedding night, woman contacts satan, watch to find out more, its all on youtube i think, thing is there are no subtitles, as far as i know this film has never been released in the states
Wowsers, that is some seriously O.G. hentai! 😲 Yes, I realize this has more artistic merit than the majority of "hentai" per se, but I had no idea Japan had put out any explicit animation like this that long ago. How did I never hear about this until now?? Anyhow, thanks for the upload, tubesoda!
