I can't wait for this! I love your retrospectives and I'm one of like 70 people on this planet who adore this film. Is it weird that it's a comfort movie for me? Haha.
Looking forward to this immensely. You made the movie look great from that trailer - difficult to do when the shark is a rubbery embarrassment that spends half the movie with its mechanisms on display and the other half out of the water!
Anxiously awaiting this! Michael Caine has a revered stature in the "so BAD it's GOOD" filmography- "The Swarm"('78), "Beyond The Poseidon Adventure"('79), "The Hand", & "The Island" ...to think he didn't appear in person to pick up his Oscar for "Hannah and Her Sisters" because he was filming "Jaws:The Revenge"- now that's dedication! 🦈
Awesome! By no means a good film, in fact it’s quite terrible, but I’m looking forward to seeing Layton’s look at the film. There is no comprehensive making-of “Jaws the Revenge”...but there is now. 👍🦈
The first 20 minutes or so of it aren't terrible....Its only when they decide the shark is going to follow them to the Caribbean that it gets god awful
It's unarguably a bad film on almost every level. The opening shows promise and genuine mood and then it goes downhill. What makes it more interesting is that the main character is a mature woman; you'd never normally see a woman let alone a woman of grandmother age leading an adventure movie like this. I know she was the studio head's wife but still. Props for that choice in '87.
Looking forward to your review and Hope it's not too brutal. I've a soft spot for this particular Turkey and I found the novelization considerably scarier than the movie. Though I thought the idea Epic, I loved Michael Kaine, and loved the shark chase through the shipwreck scene.
I can't wait to see this. When are you planning to have it finished Layton? I genuinely believe this movie us far superior to Jaws 3. I think it has just become the norm to criticise and belittle this movie.
I can't believe i saw this POS in the cinema. My memory is that Mario Van Peebles' character died at the end (cuz you know, Token's always gotta die for some reason), but for some reason I think there is a version where he ended up living...? Am i going insane? Layton, i hope you have answers. (Not so much about my sanity) Nevertheless, very much looking forward to this, you always do a great job!!
They should have made the spoof "Jaws 3: People 0" rather than what became of Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge. Jaws 3 dug the grave and The Revenge buried the franchise.
