Honestly, you're a better person than I. If I was at a period of heightened emotion, denied access to services because my disability is a minor inconvenience for someone else, physically denied access to even board and treated like I'm worth less than someone else solely because of a disability, I'd cry.

It may sound stupid but you really should make a complaint to the rail company and involve your MP. Disability is a protected characteristic and this conductor actually disabled you by refusing to help and then actively prevented you from getting onto the train. It will not make a difference for what happen to you but hopefully it will make a difference to you or somebody in your situation in the future.

Trains should have ramps built in so they'd automatically activate when they detect wheelchair (not sure how that'd work, maybe by weight?) or someone could easily use some sort of in built handle, we have those like that on polish buses, not sure how it's with trading though, I don't ride them often
@miakiikazu
@miakiikazu Месяц назад
some newer trains in the UK (i think greater anglia have some) have level access where the doors are level to the platforms and there's a surface that extends to the platform so there's no gap and the train can be boarded safely, and newer services like the elizabeth line a lot of platforms are completely step free so it's getting there
@ForestWhisperMusic
@ForestWhisperMusic Месяц назад
@@miakiikazu there are also some other places where the train is level with the platform such as the Glasgow subway.
@barvdw
@barvdw Месяц назад
There are still a lot of other stations, too, though, where for instance you need to get a train to the right platform, as the others are too curvy, or the lift's out of order, etc. You need time to reorganise those platform changes. Also, in London, virtually every station has multiple staff members who can put in a ramp for you, in smaller stations, there aren't always. In some cases, they even have to share that staff with other stations, so a member of staff literally has to drive to the station you need to get off at... That's why so many train companies want you to reserve in advance, so they can get organised. And yes, it shouldn't be like this, also people with disabilities should be able to travel on a whim, without human assistance where possible, but with the legacy system we have, and far too many stations that were built in a curve, that won't happen anytime soon, I'm afraid, at least not over the entire network.

Yes absolutely chronic fatigue is a disability! I was given max mobility component on my benefits payment because although I could walk a reasonable distance on a good day, the next day I'd need to stay in bed. The person assessing my case (i was very lucky to get someone compassionate) decided it would be best to estimate how far I can walk in a week and take the average.

You are absolutely are allowed to call yourself disabled if you identify that way, it's a personal decision that only needs your opinion to be valid. You have every right to use anything that you feel that would be beneficial and make things easier for you. I have CFS , I know how debilitating and painful it can be. I often suggest to people that would really benefit from a mobility aid and are a bit apprehensive about it. To build confidence by taking a supportive friend or family member that are able to not make a big deal of it but also provide support if and when needed. I was also nervous about it at first and I found it quite confronting, im ok with it now though. I hope this helps 🙂♥️
