The Frecciarossa Av 9595 Milan-Salerno train derailed on the high-speed line near Ospedaletto Lodigiano, in the province of Lodi (50 km from Milan) at dawn, on February 6, 2020. The derailment was caused by a badly placed exchange and it seems that the cause is a new device that has a flaw and is defective.
The exchange, therefore, put the train in a track to the left (in that section more high-speed tracks run), but at the speed of 290 km / h at which it proceeded, the carriage n.1 with the tractor has practically taken off and, several hundred meters later, it impacted a cart that was on another rail, and then against a building. The trolley was found inside the building, while the bodies of the two drivers were thrown out at a further distance from the destroyed tractor. For the two train drivers Giuseppe Cicciù and Mario Di Cuonzo, there was nothing more to do.
