And to think that Florida also has Tri-Rail, the site of some of the greatest K5LAs to ever grace the world, and unlike Coaster, they all still stand in their full glory even today. 7:17 2305 is currently sitting at the south end of Stuart Mesa Yard in line for overhaul, but they haven't even touched it at all since they moved it there as of now.
TRUST ME ON THIS: if you look up ACE Series IX cab car testing, they don’t use full pressure, so it is probably a much better sounding horn than you think.
I live in Toronto, so yes I do agree that in it's emergency setting the K5CA is dismal, especially with VIA Rail recently replacing the 90s K5LA main horn on the P42 fleet, with another K5CA like the emergency horn up front... But I can at least tolerate it now on it's regular setting (which wasn't really featured other than briefly at the start of the GO clip), as I've heard that one enough that it's starting to grow on me. At least I can somewhat forgive VIA for using a K1L13 on the F40 fleet as a replacement for the K3L, and the Hybrid K5CA (Yes really) that they use as their emergency horn.
Over here in the east, we have a small fleet of GP40 rebuilds in the Springfield and Hartford area that run the CTRail commuter service. These have Australian-built K5UL-AU-LS horns, lots of people seem to hate them but I personally don’t mind them. They give CTRail a distinct sound!
This just appeared on my recommended videos algorithm and I laughed when you got to the part about Sunrail. I live in Central Florida and occasionally encounter Sunrail trains while driving and even rode it a few times. I've just gotten used to its horn noises as almost "normal" - but yes they do sound pretty bad when put up against what a good train horn should sound like.
Thanks for Using My Shot When I Caught That Guy Crossing the Tracks. I Really Prefer The K5LAs on Go Transit. At Least They Don’t Sound Like This At 6:39 But All Though Some Sound Like That. Awesome Video btw. :D
Man everyone hating on the k5ca. Its actually a nice sounding horn I don't get at all how it sounds bad especially the ones used on VIA's p42s those things are awesome. Now, when they get fouled that's a different story and I agree the fouled ones sound like garbage but not the normal ones.
Ngl the K5CA and K5CA-LS don't sound ALL that bad. Just got to get used to them and tbh it depends on what locomotive it's mounted on. Some sound horrible others sound actually fine
I hate the K5CA, it tries it’s best sound like a K5HL and fail. I rather take the horns on CSX 907, 5226, 5376, and 5476 over that piece of garbage and these locomotives have some of the worst horns I’ve ever heard
