8 Railroad Diamonds In One Place! Train Knocks Down The Signal Changing From Track 1 To Track 2. Light Goes From Green To Red As Train Passes Switch. Brand New Freight Cars Without Graffiti! Big Coal Train With DPU Shoving The Rear Passes The Station. These 4 trains are in Marion, Ohio passing the Marion Union Station.
First train is seen from above on AC Tower next to the diamonds. Watch the train cross 4 diamonds, change tracks and make the signal change from green to red as it passes it. This is called "knocking down the signal" or "dropping the signal". It's railroad jargon. I want to use more railroad jargon so if anyone has some really interesting jargon, just leave a comment. Knocking down the signal originated in the days of semaphore signals. The arm would drop when the train entered the block and would give a stop signal to approaching trains to prevent accidents.
One train had a deadhead on board who had outlawed on a lay-by. A dog catcher rescued the hot shot and they finally got the high ball. LOLZ! There was a hog head hanging out the window of a TOFC.
Next we see an eastbound intermodal hit the diamonds. We see this CSX train from the tower also. It was windy all day and temps were in the mid 60s.
The third train is an eastbound coal train with a DPU shoving on the rear. I got a different view for this train. You can see the train station with the coal train going behind it.
The fourth train is a local running southbound over the diamonds. The conductor is riding on the leading car. I think this is the local that used to have a blue Conrail bay window caboose. I have filmed it a few times but haven't seen it in over a year. Does anyone know if they are using it as a shoving platform anymore? We saw another southbound CSX train sitting on the main a couple miles away but it never made it to use by the time we left. It may have entered the yard instead.
The best frequencies here are 161.190 for Norfolk Southern, 160.860 for the east and west CSX line and 160.230 for the north south CSX line. I rode to Marion with Scott @1960gambit. Scott counted 19 trains while we were there and we were there about 10 hours. That count includes a local coming and going. 5 minutes after we left two more trains came. Lol
After the slide show you will see my new dog. He is about six and a half pounds and I think he is about six weeks old. His tail was cut by the owners for some reason. Mrs Tooth bought him from her cousin in Kentucky. You will see the first time that he got to his permanent home and the first time that Chessie, Brandi and Norfie got to meet him. Just think, this historic video is the one that I will be looking for in a few years when I want to see what the puppy looked like when we first got him. It reminds me of the first time I saw our cat and filmed her wandering around looking for food.
Filmed May 17, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!
