I used to live in Havant and often took these trains into Portsmouth, as i was about 10 at the time, me and my Friend built a Den track side to watch the trains go by. (yes, even though we were only 10, we knew the dangers and stayed well clear of the tracks) Havant used to have a 3rd track running though the middle of the station for freight and non stop traffic.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 лет назад
+Daniel Gregory (EpicDavinci) Awesome :) I remember when they had the extra track at Havant, I think it may have been the only time I travelled along the West Coastway in a Class 421. If I remember rightly the track was removed around ten years ago, though I'm not certain?

Great video, enjoy your style its interesting. I bought heavy haul and found it terribly boring so went back to ts2017.

Great video, with the level crossing at busy crossing: such as ones near station which have half barriers the Alarm stays on to warn pedestrians that crossing is down.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 лет назад
thomas charles It's very unusual to have half barrier crossings at stations. Even so, that noise doesn't go through me in real life like it does in game lol :p

Your videos are always entertaining and informative. One thing though, on the older scenarios like this one, there were no "searchlight" style colour lights as depicted here. Is this a problem that cannot be rectified because of the program? I have noticed similar problems on other scenarios by other contributors. Other than that slight criticism, great work as always!

Peter. a fascinating video of how it used to be. I grew up in EPB territory on the commuter line from Dartford to Charing Cross and love to see a route with new EPB that you mentioned. Just a thought: who closed all the open slam doors shown in cut outs in this video? Roger Crick
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 лет назад
+Roger Crick Thank you Roger. In some ways, I prefer things how they used to be to how they are now. I guess that as humans we get terribly nostalgic for some perceived better past sometimes? I will see what I can do about making a video in the EPB. In Train Simulator, all the doors close themselves lol!

The speed limits are indeed different in each direction. Between Portsmouth and Woking there are 3 sections of 90mph going towards Portsmouth but nothing over 85mph going towards London. Between Petersfield and Liss the speed limit is 80-85mph going towards London but 85-90mph towards Portsmouth. There isn't a 50mph section either with goods trains able to do 60mph-85mph depending on the exact location between Petersfield and Loss. Additionally the long section of 60mph between Milford and Farnham in the London-bound direction is 75-80mph going towards Portsmouth. This theme of differing speeds limits in each direction is particularly prevalent on the Portsmouth Line but is not unique to it. If you have any further speed limits queries please don't hesitate to ask me, Ben.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 лет назад
+Ben Reid The question is why do the speed limits differ?
@hexagon7895
@hexagon7895 9 лет назад
Very good question. The only thing I can think of is something to do with signal spacing having an effect on braking distances and therefore maximum permissible speeds.

There is another version of the PDL available on steam workshop which has been completely revamped. In addition the line from Woking to aldershot has been added. I believe it is called "Portsmouth direct line - updated"

Yes, I've got that now. I may make a video on it in the near future :)

Great video. I've been on part of this line from Eastleigh to London. The trains look great and also sound a lot like old EMUs. Do you know how to sort out this problem I have with Train Simulator 2013/16? The problem is massive lag. The trains move really slow. I can hardly do anything. It takes about 1 minute for a train to go about a metre.

Hello again. Great video as always. Made me go out and purchase this DLC. Love the 421 Southern so this will be no different, besides the skin. I have a question, I've been trying to make my own scenario on the London-Brighton route. I'm wondering is there a specific place you get the real life timetables from. I'm from Canada so I don't know the ins and outs of the UK routes. I've found sites that give me the timetables of the route but no platform numbers. It's quite easy for the smaller stations, like Hassocks and Balcombe for example, but for the bigger stations like Gatwick Airport and especially London Victoria, how do you know what platform is correct. As well as the service number for each train? That'd be a huge help for me. Thanks.

These videos are great. I'm currently doing roads for SWR. It's been impossible to get out there at moment due to coronavirus and there is some good information in here. Some speeds boards are in the wrong places though, is that because of the 1994 scenario?
@TheBVE
@TheBVE 9 лет назад
One question PTG. Are the A.I trains in your scenarios based on a real timeteble as well as the player trains. Once again, great video!
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 лет назад
TheBVE2010 They sure are! With just a couple of minor tweaks in this, making trains delayed by a couple of minutes here and there so we saw some adverse signals. But all AI services are based on the real timetable in all my scenarios, that's the way I like it and I wouldn't have it any other way :)
@TheBVE
@TheBVE 9 лет назад
PTGRail Nice, I try very hard to have my scenarios based on a real timetable, but I just end up having trains blocking each other. May I ask how you use the info from timetables to place trains in the editor. Is there a certain website or certain software you use. Please let me know if you didn't understand my question :)
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 9 лет назад
TheBVE2010 I use www.realtimetrains.co.uk for timetable information as it gives me the headcodes too which I copy and paste as the service name. Do you know about changing priorities so that certain trains are given signalling priority over others? That can help when services block each other. I simply look at the timetable information and add the trains in to the editor manually.
@TheBVE
@TheBVE 9 лет назад
PTGRail Thanks! Yes I do, I believe express passenger services are given priority over stopping passenger services, and express freight is given priority over standard freight. Am I right?
@Sarnoc
@Sarnoc 9 лет назад
+TheBVE2010 If you're asking about real life, then not quite! But as a standard rule of thumb, yes. Express, stopping, freight. In real life there are certain rules about which trains take priority over each other, which can depend on the 'value' of a service...

Hi, Peter. I've created a number of steam workshop scenarios, and I have currently two (that I know of) scenarios which use the real timetable, one of which is called 'Northbound 225' on the DPSimulation East Coast MainLine - North East. You can find it here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=447723201 A full list of reskins and DLC can be found on the page, I believe you have the correct stock, just some reskin downloads. There is one piece of DLC which I know you haven't got, which is the Class 220 from DTG, however, I don't see why you can't swap it out for the Just Trains version instead.EDIT: if you wish to cover the route in the 'up' (Southbound) direction, you can use this scenario: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=349777972 which is based off a fictional timetable, as it is set in BR days, and couldn't use a BR timetable.

I was just wondering what that round "gauge" is to the left of the window that lights up yellow & black and a buzzing sound is emitted whenever it lights up. It kinda looks like a flower to me when it's all lit up, lol. I've noticed that all of the trains have that. What is that?
@Sarnoc
@Sarnoc 9 лет назад
+Aaron Lewis it's the AWS 'sunflower'. AWS = Automatic Warning System. Basically when it shows a yellow set of 'petals' it warns the driver that the signal aspect is set to caution (yellow or red). When it's not showing anything, it means it's a clear aspect (i.e. green).It's also responsible for one of the ringing/buzzing noises. I forget which (I'm not a train driver so don't have to remember :P)
@Deepblue744
@Deepblue744 9 лет назад
+Sarnoc Sunflower! That's the kinda flower it reminds me of! I just couldn't think of it at the time. For the longest time I've been trying to figure out what that was for and now I know. Thanks for the info!

It would be good if some things like bill boards etc changed depending on era of train. One click shopping seems out of place in a 90's scenario.

Regarding making a video for another country. Could you do the German DB Class 103 electric locomotive as it is my favourite German train. If you don't own it then perhaps an ICE 3, ICE T or ICE TD set instead? Many thanks, Ben. ☺

Just to clarify, is Super elevation where one rail is at a different height to the other, making the train tilt for corners? I'm not entirely sure if this is correct.
