Train Simulator 2021: Norfolk Southern SD70M 

The horn sounds decent, but the SD70Ms had very precise horns, no fade out. Sounds like that of a Geep with a manual valve.

That ammeter straight flew up to 300 amps instantly lol, in real life that would be the equivalent of throttling a locomotive to notch 3 and then flipping the gen field switch

This is sad. Actually sad. There are literally better models than this included in MSTS from 2001 (that's 20 YEARS AGO). This is pretty much just a scam and the asking price of TWENTY BUCKS is outrageous.

The horn is from NS 5642.

You said you couldn't hear a loop sound, listen very closely, you can hear its a short sample, you can hear the doppler effect from the original sound, it starts then gets played in reverse/rewind, forward, reverse, forward, reverse, pop, forward, reverse etc. Ive never understood why developers use a teeny tiny sample sound and then flip it back and forth to make it sound longer. Searchlight has full horn blast sounds, i think they are 20 second recordings of the locomotive standing still, no doppler.

A weak excuse for an SD70m

Yep, about right for what modern DTG considers worthy of $19.99 which isn’t good. Jeez, man… I still remember being flabbergasted about how DTM’s D&RGW SD50’s dynamic brakes don’t even work at all… not that they were ever accurate in TS20XX anyway. Hell, I’ve seen MSTS locomotive models with more accurate detailing - not Open Rails, MSTS! Just look at other simulators like racing sims such as Assetto Corsa and even the *free* cars and tracks. Just look up any number of recent videos with the vintage touring car pack which is free btw. There’s absolutely no excuse for this!

Last thing The Loco Shop released was either the N&W 611 or the NS SD60E.

Love the sd70ms Irl see them in arcola IN all the time on the CF&E NS lake division to Columbia city SDI rail and steel

NS had phase 1 and phase 2 70Ms. The ones in question are phase 2 but they also had a good bit of phase 1s as well.

Great review. True shame that these couldn't be better... I'm a big fan of the notch-nosed SD70Ms. Will add that it also has the wrong control stand- these in real life actually had AAR stands in them. In addition they did have one display as well. Also, the engine sounds more like the SD70ACe's 710G3C-ES-T2/3 rather than the late SD70M's 710G3C-ES I.

Good review. This looks like someone's first effort at building something for TS, but we know they have released the SD60E before (which wasn't half bad) plus some livery packs. If Homer Simpson saw this DLC, he'd say "You tried your best and failed miserably. The lesson is, never try." Well, not exactly, I don't mind if they keep trying, providing they learn from these mistakes.

These are worth something, but 20 bucks ain't it. For $14 or so on Jointed Rail you can get models for Trainz that are loaded with features, quality modeling and textures, awesome sounds and the whole 9 yards.

I was kind of looking forward to this release, hauling some military freight - truckloads of Abrams, but they've even got those flatcars and loads badly wrong: Since when is a Humvee the same size (or slightly larger?) than an Abrams MBT?? The HEMTT 8x8 does not have dual front wheels and even the single front wheels are connected by rather huge axles!

SRS Trainz has models of those SD70Ms from 6 years ago and they look way superior.

Tbh, I sometimes like clean locomotives but I also like the NS worked to the bone, this DTG product is cramping up the clean and I think it is worth 9,99 with the laziness, it could have been better

The detail on the models just keeps going down. I wouldn't mind the textures IF the train looked accurate. The quality is horrible. Thank you for the video.

I think this surpasses as the #1 most terrible DLC to date in the Train Simulator DLC store.

I can't decide whether or not the polishing of the 70Ms are too light or too dark. The polishing at least for now is realistic. The lights should look a little bit more authentic than what they look like now. Also the lights should be a mild yellowish red, not white. The railing on the sides of the locomotives should be a little more yellow with a tiny hint of orange. As for the cab... Everything seems to be in order. It's just really difficult trying to find the actual model the dlc locomotive is actually based off of because they were developed in the 1990s and there are a lot of them that are still being developed. I'm going to assume that the model Dovetail Games is an actual 1990s model and not a 2000s model.

What do this people think?, that is 2001 or something!?, IS 2021!!!

Now what I hate when it comes to loco dlcs like this is that Dovetail Games throws random rolling stock into the dlc instead of actually taking time to put appropriate rolling stock in the dlc. For example, I understand heavily that many freight trains carried military equipment. Hell, even Union Pacific and Santa Fe transport military equipment. But if Dovetail Games is going to throw military equipment into a Norfolk Southern Locomotive dlc, then they should have just made a U.S. Military Retro Pack like they did with the Chessie System and Western Maryland Railroad Retro Packs. Hell, they should be putting dlc locomotives with their respective routes or just make Retro Packs like Norfolk Southern Retro Pack or some shit like that. It makes it much easier so we don't have to keep buying dlc locomotives separately when we could just buy larger dlcs that have content for their respective routes/railroads. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Maybe you mentioned it in the video, but the cab is completely wrong anyway. These NS SD70Ms have control stands as opposed to desktops. Not like it really matters since they still would have done a garbage job with the modeling.

CN never had SD70M's. They have SD70I's and SD75I's.

Hey I was Planning to make a BN SD40-2 reskin that is HD than this.

the only 10/10 is the horn! everything else is a joke.

All this tells me is that the future for TS20xx North American content is fairly bleak. (1st Party-wise that is. 2nd/3rd party groups like SLS, TRS and a couple other devs are keeping it alive)

Whoever thought that this is the ideal state to release this crap is an actual idiot. Not even 30 minutes from release, people complains. Whoever from The Loco Shop thought this is good needs to get fired.

Want to get to the bottom of this am seeing the two latest dlc blowing up everywhere reply back to me what is the most hated thing about this one 1. cleaness 2. the shape and shortcut design (outside) 3. the shape and shortcut design (inside) 4. the sound 5. controls? please pick one i want to know where the true hate comes from. also that horn am with schnauz. I to this day still go about and play TRS2006 and it sounds like a ripped horn from there or just a downloaded content rip horn, Have to say wouldn't be surprised that the game has gotten so lazy that they are now ripping content from other creators from ages ago and just refining them a little to be placed into this game, would explain a lot of the looks and horn sound at least cause converting one old train model to a huge gfx jump would take a long time to get it right for sure, what we all know has happen for this train model.

This really hurts. The fact that they consider this good, is honestly horrid. It's sad because these are payware, and not only that... the low amount of detail, not even accurate detailing at all just amazes me. Like how could you even think of making this garbage payware? If I'ma be honest, The old Kuju SD40-2's, hoppers, boxcars (etc etc) look like quality to this! And that says something. I've seen better in MSTS, ORTS and older versions of Trainz. This has to be the worst model I've seen in railworks. Which, when I used to play railworks (before I switched to other games due to stuff like this) I thought things being this un-accurate was impossible. However I'm starting to see the truth. Maybe one day, this game will get better developers, More 3rd-party content and leave this garbage out of the scene. It sucks that's not the case right now. And when you said "This is part of the reason why a lot of people are turning away from train sim, north american content wise" this is a perfect example of why I switched to Trainz. Things like this I cannot handle. A shitty model, on steam, for $20? Glad I don't see that shit with Trainz. I don't even know if I wanna get back to railworks anymore. Im just so over all the shitty models, lack of 3rd party content and all the scams on every new release from DTG. It's sad to see what this game is becoming.

I am disappointed that the locomotive isn't what we were expecting, but it's better than nothing. I was hoping most dlc locomotives would have been in the Pro range by now, but well you can't have everything. Even if they're ugly or don't perform up to my expectations, I still like them. As long as they work.
