Japanese trains are the best, not just tech wise but also the fact that the public that uses the trains is so disciplined. No loud talking, no food, and none of the nonsense you see on the subway in NYC

Of course its more disciplined. Everyone is squeezed into a train they just want to get to their destination asap

We always seem to think the grass is always greener on the other side. The Japanese rail system is great, but let's not pretend it's perfect. The working conditions for the drivers and other personnell are really hard - the 2005 Amagasaki derailment was partially caused by a train driver being so afarid of becoming delayed (and being sent to "retraining", a process known to be almost as psychological torture.) This fear of reprecussions led to him driving too fast, and derailed, killing 107 people, including himself. And when we speak of "public dicipline", it's important to remember that there is sadly a reason why many Japanese trains on congested lines have "women only" cars.

I'm all for underground now I know how easy it is for an enemy country to take out key infrastructure above ground. Also, below ground climate controls itself.
