Start as a plumber from when you leave school. Don't go to university, you learn more on site, way more than they learn just by reading books. Go to university later, when you're stronger minded

Thay are a lot of plumbers that won't take trainees that makes it hard for kids that want a job same with all trades you train them up and then thay go it should be a 5 year epprentership like it was years ago not 18 months nvq

When I was in my early 20s I tried to become a qualified plumber and hopefully move onto gas. It was so difficult to get taken on the job as a apprentice to get my portfolio to gain my nvq quals. Phoned some many people even further afield not in my area no 1 was interested in taking me on. This was in mid 2000s.

haha, my father was a gas engineer. He said: Son, never become a gas engineer, because you'll always be working in the cold. Wenn the heating works, you have to move to the next freezing building site.

Winter doesn't last long in the UK @rudyhonings, and there are tonnes of different specialist areas in the gas industry. With the correct clothing and an electric heater, you get along great if it is cold in a customer's house. Did your dad tell you the industry provides a great lifestyle, and you can accelerate past your peers who study for degrees with ease? Did he tell you about the job satisfaction, the challenges and the ability to excel as an engineer? Gas engineering is a brilliant career choice, and our trainees never look back!

@@vivatrainingUK Bro, i can relate i have a Masters in Construction Management and struggling to get a decent paid Job as graduate. I would have to spend years getting paid peanuts just to work up to a decent Salary. I came from a poor background and thougjt education would help me out of it. Ive decided today to start a intense gas training programme. Ill update how i get on. By the way ive decided to do it at access training. Do you recommend them? Thanks again Viva, your channels great.
@vivatrainingUK
@vivatrainingUK Год назад
Go for it Shunel, I don’t know enough about them to recommend them. The questions I would ask... Do they provide sufficent placements to complete your portfolio. Do they fully support you through the portfolio process and if so. How? How big are the class sizes? We keep our class sizes to a maximum of 10 so you can get all the time you need with the trainers. How experienced are the trainers? Our trainers are ex-British Gas & Baxi Trainers, and we have trainers visit us from Worcester Bosch, the HSE and other manufacturers. What ongoing support do they have available? As a skills centre we are here to support you along your career, if you want to niche in boiler repairs or cross skill to air source heat pumps or air conditioning we have you covered. I can’t speak for any other training centres just VIVA Training. We put heart and soul into everything we do! All the best!

Thank you Sir! I have watched your videos while I have been retraining as a gas engineer from a health care industry work and it has been a blast. However a number of qualified engineers who agree to take on trainees seem selfish in passing on their experience to the trainees. Although very keen to use and abuse a trainee as free labourer. Forgetting that not long ago he was a trainee himself! Sharing is caring and the only way to make safer better engineers of the future. Through teaching we learn more ourselves.

I’m considering a career change. I have just turned 40 and have been cleaning pretty much my whole life. I’ve built up a reputable business for my wife and myself, but I’m sick and tired of the work. After completing a gas engineer course, what can I realistically expect my starting salary to be if I get employment? I have a friend who can sign off my portfolio, but he is self employed so I won’t be working with him long term. Would be so grateful for some advice. I’m nervous to pay for a course and take two months off work. Will be a struggle with no income!

At the moment it seems the big boys are all either asking for 2 years experience OR they will take me on through an agency as a contractor. We have ladies and gentlemen training on the gas engineering course from 18 to 78 years old. Once qualified, the vast majority of our trainees are employed in the industry.. For some, it takes longer than others, but I suggest to our trainees that you tell everyone what you are doing and look for opportunities from the day you start your gas training, not wait until you have completed your gas training. As a result, we have guys who have secured employment with companies, and some nationals, whilst they are on the training course. We do reserve some advice for VIVA's trainees when asked!
