Finchley, London.
M/S of a great red fire engine. Firemen start doing various jobs around the engine. M/S of the firemen getting water pump and hose ready. Huge fire engine ladder has been placed next to a building. M/S of a fireman starting climbing up the ladder. C/U shot of another fireman looking up. Terrible low angle shot of fireman's feet as he climbs. Ladder moves up which makes it even scarier. High angle M/S of the fireman on top of the ladder as it travels up. Cut to the firemen on the ground operating water pipe.
Water starts running and the fireman on top of the ladder directs it to the window. M/S of the firemen on the ground taking another ladder. Fireman starts running up the ladder. C/U shot of a senior fireman watching the operation. Cut to the window where fireman appears carrying something in his arms. M/S of the fireman coming down carrying (what appears to be) an unconscious man.
Succession of shots demonstrating two man hook ladder climbing technique. Cut to M/S of a man wearing 'self contained breathing apparatus' - a device looking like a gas mask with a few more gadgets and a little gas bottle. M/S of the fireman wearing the apparatus entering very smoky room through a tiny window. Voiceover claims that with this apparatus firemen can work for hours in smoky conditions. What about heat? L/S of a room full of firemen in the middle of their first aid drill. M/S of the two men demonstrating a new way of artificial respiration on the third man lying on the floor.
M/S of a fireman polishing brass - different parts of the fire engine and equipment. C/U shot of the man's hands polishing is followed by the C/U shot of the man's face. L/S of the firemen playing pool, relaxing. C/U shot of an alarm bell. It is ringing. Several shots showing firemen running, sliding down a pole, and getting into fire engine. L/S of the fire engine leaving the station and driving off.

Lovely to see Finchley fire station in its Middlesex heyday.

Why wouldn't it be in its heyday now? Is the current station somehow not rescuing enough people? 🤔

Fires back then were small or didn’t contain any toxic materials that’s why they wore light gear today the fires we have are toxic or industrial meanings it will take a long time to extinguish also that it is toxic that is why you will need heavy protection

The modern kit is much more protective of far more sorts of fires and acrid smoke, I'd take the new stuff thank you very much. Some people have this silly attachment to how good it was that we didn't give one about health and safety in the past when that meant that more people died early fully preventably and that there was more pain and misery - let's not go back!

@@Ecstasy-91 All fires are toxic even back then. They wore light gear because they only had light gear.

@@hadtobethere1328 back then most stuff was made out of just wood now there’s a whole buncha composite building materials that burn way hotter and faster than ordinary class A combustibles and release way more toxic chemicals n carcinogens. Doesn’t even have to be building materials either can be something as simple as a polyester blend fabric couch everything now releases an insane amount of toxic chemicals when burned

That's when FF's were heros. Now they are over-paid babies crying for more money.
