Great content, I’ve recently got a Garmin 955 and it’s a great bit of kit, but a little tricky to understand and utilise all the data. I found using the race calendar and then doing the recommended workouts have really helped with my speed and general fitness. V02 goals are next on my list 💪
The 955 is a beast - so much data! Some of it can be helpful if you know what you're looking for, but it's also important not to get bogged down by it. And yes, the recommended workouts have been good for a while now. Lots of people I know follow the recommendations with good results 👍
I used my iPhone with Strava for years, but then i had an event that needed watch navigation, plus others coming next year, I went for what I thought was the best bang for my buck, re battery life (its good for 20hr activity, so a 100 miler will need a 15min charge) spec, weight and size. the OLED watches may look flash in the house, but out side in daylight or with a head-torch the transflective screen is much better and doesn't require a back light, so much better for battery, the Fenix was just too expensive and big for me. Coros Pace 2 or 3 would be great if your on a tighter budget, but the GPS accuracy and the navigation features are not as good as the Garmin 955 @@JamesAlberts
Thanks for this video Chris! First watched your "Only 4 runs you need" video earlier this year. Pretty sure you suggested trying only zone 2 running for 6 months as someone getting into the running regime, and it has worked a treat for me so this video is perfectly timed for where I am at. Been thinking of adding in the higher intensity runs for a while and was unsure what I needed. Looks as if I have a plan of action now :D thanks as always!
At the moment I am just prioritising one workout a day. I would love to do double-days, but the reality of work and family life don't let it happen. You can see my current plan in this video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sicXWFKVZaE.htmlsi=MB2BOs3R3RA5LfdH
What is your suggestion if you can only seem to run threshold/zone 4 runs? I average around 9:50-10 min miles but my heart rate is always around 150. (49M) Zone 2 seems completely unobtainable, I often walk in zone 3. My Garmin puts my VO2 at 42. I’m 5’9 and 164lbs.
@@ChrisBranch you did. In your follow up video you should find someone, such as myself, that claims to not be able to get a run in in zone two and see what that looks like by running with them and posting their HR data. Maybe we all really do need to shuffle instead of walk? I’m just not sure other than I’m sure it would be much slower than seemingly possible while still ‘running.’ I’ve checked my Garmin and my zones are correct for my age(49). Looking forward to see what you come up with:-)
Hi, I'd suggest you take those walking breaks. In three weeks of taking these humiliating multiple walking breaks when I was nowhere tired but my heart rate was not in the right zone anymore, I was able to see quite a difference. Just because of this I've been able to run more often, be more consistent and hit higher monthly mileages than before. I avoided doing this for a year because it didn't "seem right", and I'm so glad I finally decided to take the damn walking breaks.
Lab and fitbit put my VO2 max around 50. Garmin? 38 😅 and it refuses to use a manual value. Oh, you can put it in and see it on your profile, it just ignores it everywhere relevant.
@@ChrisBranch that's with the chest strap! Apparently, some lab stuff works better with garmin, so I may have to treat myself next year. The only thing it's really mucking up atm is my calorie prediction 🤷♂️
@@platosbeard3476 Interesting .. and frustrating! That is a big discrepancy, I haven't heard anyone mention one that big before. If it's any consolation, I never pay attention to the calorie prediction anyway. The only thing that has worked for me regarding calories is lots of trial and error (...with a LOT of error! 😂). I've landed on the levels that work for me now though, and I don't use the garmin at all for it. Good luck with your training 🙏
