Our great Pyrenees and Wheaton terrier both act as livestock guardian dogs as we free range our chickens with them together for the first time! We trained our dogs over the last few months to prepare the day so we could free range our chickens and allow us to be able to have our dogs and chickens range together.

You did it! It just tok some time. Congrats! Mylo won't care about the chickens. Believe it or not he is alert. His head up and looking around. He may not interact with the chickens but he is doing his job. It's in his genes.

Yes it was one of the goals for us this year and for it to be able to be done and completed before spring is a huge win for us we are very happy! We know that he is protecting them even though he may not seem like it, thanks for watching!

I have a 15 year old border collie who tries to herd the chickens and a Great Pyrenees puppy who faces away from the chickens and watches for danger. They have different roles

She really has shocked us, we still keep an eye on her since she still tries to nip at them through the fence but when she is in there with them she is great! She has even handled the pecking better.

How old are your dogs? And how long have you had the chickens with the dogs?

Actually, your Great Pyrenees is protecting them. They will guard the perimeter and literally do laps. If a predator is spotted then he will get active. Him trotting around is the equivalent of him guarding the perimeter. I wouldn’t be surprised if Great Pyrenees told Bailey in dog to stay close while he guarded the perimeter. I’d recommend reading up in more depth on Great Pyrenees. They are perimeter guards.
