45yr old Mechanical Engineer company owner here seeking better paid employment on a self employed basis... would you recommend going down the sparky route. Ex-father-in-law of 20yrs is a spark who wasn't the best at running a company, but did ok... He won't talk to me now though!

@@johnshaw8013 Jumping in at the deep end leaving your current position would not be wise, there are weekend courses you can do to get your qualifications if you want to do it there is always a way but you may take a drop in income whilst your starting up. I advertised for my first year then never advertised again, but I was a full time Firefighter also but I had more than enough work some months earning more than my firefighters wage. Good luck I can only tell you about my experience slowly slowly. Installing two solar lights today. £30 for a days work ( Thailand ) lol Retired but I still help other people out. Enjoy.

Recently I have been entertaining the idea of switching from gas to electric for the longevity factor. Would you recommend this move ?
@RetiredandLivingthedream
@RetiredandLivingthedream 3 года назад
@@maxlions9673 Gas boilers will be phased out and be replaced with electric boilers over the next 10 years, but gas appliances still need servicing so there are some years left in the gas servicing. But I’d say you can work anywhere in Europe as an electrician and gas is less important and less used in Europe. I’m all for Electrical work I still do a little bit of electrical work here in Thailand. and still love it.

@Construction & Trades Business Training How does one learn both? Would you have too do an Apprenticeship is electric then a separate Apprenticeship in gas? Or could a tradesman go somewhere too broaden their skills and learn gas (or other trades) at different centers?

If you think that there are bad installations in the U.K. you should see it here in Thailand. I have wired people’s houses here and the temp is over 30. I trained at 40 started my own business it’s the way to go. I have worked all over the World doing electrical work and never did the apprentice route. Be safe, safe practice and work safe.. If your a member of the NICEIC you can ask their technical helpline for advice. Good source of advice.

Hi thanks for that great video, really helped and I love this channel keep up the good work. I have one question; I am currently working full time as a telecom engineer, doing underground cabling and fibre jointing. I was looking at learning another trade like electrician which is slightly similar in what I do to work on the side as a second job. I’m thinking about doing the btec level 2 course on electrician first and then try finding part time weekend job as a electrician mate for experience. Do you think it’s worth my time and money and effort to try and learn electrician to work as a part time job? Can I still make decent enough money working as a electrician part time? Is it worth me looking into this since I am 32 years old.
@ajharmiah2692

Thats similar to what i was thinking about doing. I was thinking about doing a fast track level 2 course. Then getting an electricians mate job to get experience. Im younger so im able to do the course without having big bills to pay.

I every where of rhe world the contractors hiring operatives with not care about the certification.. some ones with lots of struggles get certification , this is an umblance mindset. I borne as Electrician at 10 years once I got my university Electrician degree ontherones without qualifation took my post, same here , I got my C&G eelctrical qualification to get a job and another one with CSCS card is hired intead one who has ECS card.every time When I see my diplomas hanging on the wall , I thing are just a frustrated dream.

The colleges need to do a better job of telling lads that they need to get the portfolio and AM2 done after the level 3. Ive spoken to people who are telling me they are a spark with just a level 2 and 3 and the colleges have told them this

I was told by a friend electrician that I could do intensive training which lasts a couple of weeks then do a quick job assessment and then become domestic electrician. I wondered if this its true
@ajharmiah2692
@ajharmiah2692 3 года назад
Not exactly. From what i read and watched, you can do a fast track course. The problem is that when it comes to trades, most employers dont look for just qualifications. Nearly, if not all employers look for several years worth of experience. So an apprenticeship is usually they way to go unless you work as an electricians mate as a part time job. If you cant find any then volunteer. But still it will take years. Fast track course is just a foot in the door. You most likely wont able to get a job.

is impossible to become an electrician now because is like to become a lawyer, for that reasons many people would prefer clenaer or caretaker job. To many money to be qualify a simple electrician.

I did a 4 year apprenticeship getting my arse kicked daily by my journeyman to get rid of bad habits and learn the correct way to do things. I was on crap money while all my pals were making great money delivering letters and working in offices, I did 2 years at college then final exams with another 2 years post apprenticeship to become approved. If you dont go through a recognised apprenticeship you will never be a real sparky, wiring houses and installing ev chargers does not make you an electrician, qualifications are easy to get, experience and knowledge take a lifetime.

can you tell me if i go to college the adult part time and get my level 3 is that all i need to do or do i need to do an apprenticeship after that too?
