G'day from Australia.... There's something really special about Canadian trains that I really like...This vid is terrific....the bear a bonus....I 've filmed a few of our coal trains and captured a deer once on the film and a a couple of kangaroos but the bear is incredible but so is the scenery and the trains ..great work....From one Commonwealth country cousin to another...Cheers Rod
Very nice video. I don't know how you could possibly beat the scenery. The CP crews are friendly, several trains, black bears, and people in a canoe! lots of great things going on.5*****
There's a big problem with bears getting hit by trains in Banff National Park. Canadian Pacific Railway us taking steps to eradicate the problem, such as running vacuum trucks on the tracks, which aspire grain spilled in transit, especially in late summer, when unit grain trains of 150 cars or more move back and forth between Calgary and Vancouver.. But not much can be done when a high tonnage train running at speed, suddenly encounters a bear, feeding just prior to hibernation.
Many of the container freight loads seem so high, is there not danger of center of gravity being too high on curves, with possible tipping cars over? I just thought those were some of the tallest freight stacking loads I have ever seen. Maybe it was the angle of view, but it struck me. I see from a Google search that CSX calculates they carry loads requiring up to 20 feet above top of rail surface, though, which is pretty much a two story building tall.
