The 85th video of my train spotting adventures.
-----
This video takes me right along westward into South Wales, along the South Wales Mainline to Cardiff Central, Wales' busiest station, served by GWR, XC, and primarily TfW (Transport for Wales).
-----
Filmed on the:
South Wales Mainline
Valleys & Cardiff Local Routes
Vale of Glamorgan Line (start of line)
-----
Services seen were:
GWR) Services towards Newport, Bristol Parkway, Swindon, ==London Paddington, Swansea, Bristol Temple Meads, and other destinations towards Portsmouth Harbour, West Wales and Taunton.
-
XC) Services towards Newport, Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Birmingham New Street, Tamworth, Derby and Nottingham.
-
TfW) Services towards Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Croyton, Rhymney, Ebbw Vale, Maesteg, Bridgend, Barry Island, Penarth, and other destinations in South, West & North Wales and Manchester.
-----
A nice time spent at Cardiff, despite the slightly chilly weather. Was nice to see the two HSTs running about, what with their time as top railway operators running thin, plus the re-liveried Class 175.
-----
Trains seen:
GWR) Class 800/802 IETs, Class 165/166 Turbos, Class 158 Express Sprinter, Class 43 HST
XC) Class 170 Turbostar
TfW) Class 142/143 Pacers, Class 150 Sprinter, Class 153 Super Sprinter, Class 158 Express Sprinter, Class 175 Coradia
DB) Class 66

Great stuff! I was there the day before! I came in on 166201-165118 from Salisbury. I missed my connection when I got there, so I was there for an hour! I saw 43172 as the rear power-car on a service bound for Taunton (it was probably part of the exact same 'FGW' liveried set you saw with 43191 on the front). I had 800021 as my connecting train, which was attached to another 800. I can safely say from experience; that two, 5-unit 800's attached to each other, don't work at all! I spent most of the connecting journey pacing up and down the train, trying to find a seat, but they were all taken (I spent a few minutes sat in First Class without anyone noticing - the seats were much nicer than the standard class ones). I couldn't access the other 800 on the rear obviously, without actually getting out the train at a station, whilst people are tying to get on. That's probably the biggest flaw in the new IET service.

Fully agreed on the IET service flaw; whilst it may offer flexibility with services as a whole, it's not that great for seating numbers etc. Wish they kept more HST sets around for more services, they'd be good on the Portsmouth runs. And thank you! :)

in relation to your notes about sprinters and pacers have you noticed how busy they are? these paying passengers deserve better trains than these sheds for their daily commute,shame on you welsh transport,get it sorted asap

Well, TfW are in the process of getting new stock, though as per usual it's a slow process, what with converting existing/etc trains taking longer than expected, and now the production of the Class 197s for example has been lessened thanks to Coronavirus. They're doing their best.

No class 37 lol

I think the 37s are used on peak-time trains, so sadly I couldn't catch any as I came around 12pm.

Honourably Spotting Trains do you know anything about the new trains coming to the Rhymney Line?
@HST_Productions
@HST_Productions 4 года назад
@@Loadarine Ultimately it seems that Rhymney services will be operated by the new Class 756 Flirt units, similar too the 755s for Greater Anglia. Check out the wiki page for Transport for Wales for more info.

Honourably Spotting Trains i hope they aint gonna get rid of 143/2s and 150s

@@Loadarine Sadly, they're getting rid of everything old eventually, except the Class 67 locos. Pacers aren't to last much longer on any passenger duties across Britain now.
