Manchester Oxford Road is one of the principal stations serving the central Manchester area, located on the busy Castlefield Corridor between Manchester Piccadilly and Deansgate.
This station therefore sees a huge variety of services passing through the centre of Manchester from operators including Northern, using Class 150s, 156s, 195s, 331s and 769s, Transport for Wales, using their brand new Class 197s (two of which are featured in this video!), East Midlands Railway on their long distance Liverpool-Nottingham-Norwich services using Class 158s, and of course Transpennine Express on their cross-border services using Class 397s and 185s. Being close to the Manchester Ship Canal port of Trafford, it also sees a healthy variety of freight services.
This was my first time spotting here at Manchester Oxford Road, and needless to say, it didn't disappoint at all! The station has much of the same variety as Manchester Piccadilly, but is much more compact and less busy leading to much better views. With a good lens, you can get some excellent shots of trains departing/arriving the western end of the station towards Deansgate with the Castlefield skyline in the background. Do highly recommend if you're visiting Manchester.

Nice video good to see the 197 the new Transport for wales trains I can’t wait to see them replace the 158s so they can be on my local line

The 197s do look like very nice, modern and stylish trains. Difficult to say whether they'll beat the comfort of the 158 though!

Great video mate, interesting they aren't using Platforms 1 and 3 just 2, 4 and 5 as well. Manchester is on of the badly conjested routes which is significantly likely to cause delays a bottleneck in other words like the Croydon bottleneck. The other station I can think of with Road is Maesteg Ewenny Road.

Thanks as always :) Using other platforms might create a bit of a signalling headache, so my guess is they're just trying to make the layout of departures as simple as possible. I didn't think of Maesteg Ewenny Road - that's a good one!

@@ItsAllAboutTheJourney Ahhh that could be why may be just used for freight passing services, yes Manchester is an absolute mess and no four tracks for slow and fast lines unlike TRU which they can between Huddersfield and Ravensthrope.
