I lived in Petts Wood from 1952 to 1959 and remember single loops to and from Bickley. I went to school by train to Chelsfield. I found my interest in railways there waiting to see the steam hauled Golden Arrow each evening. Also remember the Chatham line being quadrupled. Good work Boogie.
Another excellent video. I know the area well, given that my house overlooks the line near Bickley station, and I'm still impressed that you make these locations look so rural. I think that these superb videos will be a valuable resource - when - in a few decades time - the 465s, 700s and 375s have all been replaced.
I'm in Bromley Common so Bickley is, as the crow flies, my nearest station. In practice Bromley South or Petts Wood make more sense, depending on destination. However for spotting, Bickley is my closest.
@@BoogiesTrains You might know all about this already, but I've received a postal message from Network Rail, to apologise whilst work is carried out on the track in the vicinity of Bromley South between Feb 16 and the end of March. Nothing has happened yet, at least at Bickley. But there might be a chance to see some unusual activity.
When the Class 707s enters service that Southeastern will be inheriting them from South Western Railway. Because of the Class 701 “Arterio” is scheduled to enter service from summer. I probably would think that the Class 707s will operate on the suburban services and possibly on the main line services to Canterbury, Ashford International and Maidstone. Plus is Petts Wood actually in Kent or in Greater London but near to the county boundary with Kent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_701 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_707
Petts Wood is in the London Borough of Bromley since the creation of Greater London. Before that it was part of Kent. The Post Office did not change the postal addresses when Greater London was created so many places in the outer London Boroughs still have county addresses. The best of these are for Middlesex which was completely abolished.
