A look at operations at the eastern end of Reading station. Lots of HSTs, 800s and 387s plus 165s on the main line and the North Downs line and SWT 458s on the Waterloo services.
Part 2 will cover the western end of the station.

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING, I love GWR, I’ve been a fan since the inter-city 125. What a great video of the wonderful Reading Stn. Amazingly upgraded with the new extended over head wire’s. Great Job. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After reviewing this video I ordered the Track Atlas of Mainland Britain from Amazon UK, a bit expensive but looks amazing! And great video as usual😃😃😃😃😃

That GWR livery is IMHO the smartest on the network.

My own favourite was the SWT livery with different dominant colour for the three traffic types. Excellent combination of corporate branding and product differentiation.

Excellent video. Sorry but I couldn't help mentioning that the upsidedown L shape wire supports high above the catinery supports & masts are like that what you would see in France on their High Speed lines

Coming back from Exeter on the Berks & Hants yesterday, I couldn't help but notice how over engineered the masts are on the Newbury to Reading section, compared to the likes of the 1960s electrification schemes and HS1.

@@BoogiesTrains I think the droppers and cantanarys are designed to a new European standard. I read it somewhere.

Interesting to see what it's like now. Well edited etc. Your on-screen text around 20:20 is certainly valid; that said, the occasional (!) use of relatively long focal length tends to emphasise the appearance of some of the kit. Some might like to use: www.opentraintimes.com/maps/signalling/reading#LINK_1 Not commenting on the accuracy of it's timetable links, but most of the time it works.

The ratio of HST to IET continues to stem towards IET; great filming mate :)

Watch out with the direction trains towards Wales when they might Idk but towards there is still being upgraded and the others to London are Electrified

Very interesting video...thanks. When rebuilding the station they should have driven those terminating bays across the front to connect through to Basingstoke with 3rd rail electrics.....
@BoogiesTrains
@BoogiesTrains 6 лет назад
There are connections from both the fast and slow GW lines to the North Downs line but there is no major passenger flow to merit through services. Cross Country run one in each direction through to Guildford.

Yes, that is the stock answer isn't it

If the plan for the 769s comes to fruition it will be interesting to see if any new through services are tried out. All sorts of side issues like crew rostering and route knowledge also need to be taken into account.
@msperry50ca
@msperry50ca 6 лет назад
I think it would not just be a question of passenger flow if a third rail route had been pushed down to Basingstoke from Reading. Possibly only two platforms would have been needed, turnarounds and the attendant crew organisation would be eliminated at Reading, the Basingstoke line would be powered (at last) and DMUs would be available for use elsewhere.....but I know it's pie in the sky stuff really.... :-)

I too have track atlas, I can’t quite get my head around how anyone can understand the track in London!

I'm not very impressed of how they changed the headlights on the class 166 and 165s. The 2011-2014 version are much better.

Why oh why do those automated announcements always have to spell out "Great Western RAILWAY" every single time? Is it at all necessary? Isn't it such a nice change when an actual person speaks like at 21:40.

Hate that 800 rubbish. Save our 125's.
@lewis7865

Michael Booker disagree. Love the class 800s. HSTs are well past their time, noisy and not as safe as the new IETs. Plus I think they look more modern and light :P

@bowlerstuff9589
@bowlerstuff9589 6 лет назад
they cant,diesels have to be withdrawn by 2040 so they have to electrify quickly
@spdfatomicstructure
@spdfatomicstructure 5 лет назад
How though? The Class 800s are capable of running at the same speed (200km/h) as the Class 43s, but since they can run as electric trains on electrified sections of the GWML, they end up emitting less
