It’s Friday, June 7th, and I’m at West Ham. Opened in 1900 by the London Tilbury and Southend Railway, shortly followed by the District Railway station in 1902, this station would become a major interchange with the addition of the North Woolwich branch platforms in 1979 and the opening of the Jubilee line extension in 1999. In 2006, the North London line branch to North Woolwich would close to be converted into the DLR extension to Stratford International, reusing the platforms at this station. Said platforms would reopen on August 31st, 2011. As of 2024, it is the 41st busiest railway station in Great Britain and has an average of 24799 passengers per day either starting or ending their journey at this station.
