Clagging Class 47's on Network South East services and 37154 + 33114 on 'West Of England Coalpower' charter are the main highlights, but there's also a nice mix of old and new EMU's plus some DEMU's - all filmed on Sunday 15th November 1992.

Fantastic video. It's amazing how the mundane things like 4VEP's and DEMU's are so interesting now they're not longer around. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be! ;^D

Watching this, and seeing the ex Scotrail shove duffs, I see 47717 in Parcels red, which I travelled behind from Linlithgow to Edinburgh, and 47707 in NSE, which i travelled in front of, DBSO leading, from Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street. Finally, 47712 in parcels red, appears on my layout in THAT livery! Awesome locos!

I used to live in Basingstoke, was always at the station watching the lines from 96 to 2005, I was only 6 when this was taken but already had a love for trains, great video, brings back memories

Thanks. The Waterloo to Exeter line was a bit of a dumping ground for locos past their prime - and it didn't help their condition either. 47033 was on ecs to Old Oak Common and returned a bit later. 47712 was a shadow of her former self by this time indeed - sadly not much better now dumped at Crewe.

442 terminated at Basingstoke? That's a rarity . And 47712 propelled out of the up siding, right through the up main platform, then back into the down main platform? How complicated

lovely shots and what a feast - superb clag displays and sounds of the 47s spiralling up the power - also could occasionally hear the 'cycling' droan of an idling thumper as well - lovely sound capture of the thumper at the end getting under way - being a Sunday was also good to get the sounds of the church bells

"Nostalgia isn't what it used to be" - love it! :-) It certainly makes you appreciate those trains that we've lost that's for sure, and that you never know what might become of something you're filming today in another 20 odd years!

Thanks a lot Steve. This was the final era of loco hauleds on the Waterloo to Exeter of course, and not too long before the old DEMU's and EMU's would be replaced by modern units. I actually saw 47712 as 'Lady Diana Spencer' when it was 'new' on the Edinburgh to Glasgow push-pulls, then here of course, and not so long ago in DRS colours, before it got stored. Tonight's classic upload is something very special........... :-)

Thanks Ian. I thought you'd appreciate the sound capture on this one, especially the church bells in the background - this old camcorder better with it's external mic than my modern built in one! Glad i've got those 'Thumpers' and clagging 47's on record.

Thanks Andy. A good era for mixed liveries the 1990's - a period i used to model in N gauge before i moved house.

Excellent 'CLAG FEST' mate..Nice collection of 47's and plenty clag and smoke on this one Darren, 47712 'lady Diana Spencer' caught my eye in the black and red livery. Must say some of those network southeast units and coaches looked very tired. Many thanks again mate for sharing another superb classic !!:)

I'm old enough to remember travelling behind the shove duffs on the Edinburgh-Glasgow services when i was a child , sadly before video, but i do have some photos somewhere - might be a project to scan some of those for uploading!

Thanks Hayden. A day before your birthday - you're making me feel really old now! You've got to make the most of getting out and filming while you can of course, as there'll probably be a time when you other commitments will mean you won't be able to so easily - then you'll have to wait until you retire to start full time filming again like Keith :-)

Thanks Chris. Some clagging locos, Mk2 stock, NSE and Blue/Grey liveries on the MNR bringing back these memories sounds good to me - just need the weather to play ball.

Thanks Michael. I used to travel a lot further afield back in my 20's before my job meant less time for trains - and girls were quite a distraction too of course!

Great stuff Darren. What an era with those lovely old diesels and the hairstyles! I'll bet you're looking forward to recreating some of these scenes next month when you visit my patch - the NSE livery - the blue/grey mk2s & the clag!

Excellent video Darren. Some great shots of the 47's clagging in this collection! 15th November 1992 - was born the day after this! Reading your comment to Michael, that's a bit like what I'm doing now, being able to go everywhere and film as much as I like. People always say I travel far, but with a motorbike and lots of spare time I can. I'm trying to make the most of it before it disappears Lol.

Brilliant as usual! the blue and grey mk2 in the first clip E5337 used to be on trans pennine! had many milage in that behind 45's!
@MrDeltic15
@MrDeltic15 11 лет назад
Thanks. Those Mk2's certainly covered the country being passed down from one route to another!
@MrDeltic15
@MrDeltic15 11 лет назад
Thanks. The Mk2's were cascaded quite often around this time, with NSE examples turning up in the North West and Scotland and Regional Railways ones going the other way. I believe the 465's were out of service and on their way to Eastleigh from memory.

Nice bit of NSE Duff clag! The 47/7's how the mighty are fallen, not quite the Glas-Edin push/pull! Like the mad arrival/departure at about 03.50. 47033, was that passenger or ECS. Steam heating would have stopped by then, nice in November! The state of Di...not good. Nice to see the old DEMU's and the new/old mix of EMU's.
@MrDeltic15
@MrDeltic15 11 лет назад
Thanks very much. NSE was a great livery indeed, looked good on all sorts as you say. Those slam door EMU's were great as well, much more character than the modern EMU's that followed, although the 442's were very nice - not suited to their current duties on Gatwick Express runs though!

It's all part of my huge 'Trains In The 1990's' series, all of which need different titles of course, so i chose 'Class 47 Clagfest' for this as all the 47's featured in it clagged very nicely - the other locos and DEMU's/EMU's are all worthy of inclusion as this is all now part of history of course. I am thinking of making a 'Classic Clag' compilation movie in the future though, featuring locos from the 1980's and 1990's.

Nice video . Nice lot of smoke from the 47's nice to see the old thumper units . What are the units on 18.02 never seen them before .
@MrDeltic15
@MrDeltic15 7 лет назад
Thanks very much. The units at 18:02 are Class 442 Wessex electrics which worked services between Waterloo and Bournemouth/Weymouth back then, but now many are stored(at Ely)with just a handful running - although there's talk of an Open Access operator possibly using them for services on this route in the future.............

Why were the networkers on the south west line? Was it for testing?
@MrDeltic15

I think they may have sent them to Eastleigh for attention back then? I'm sure someone more local would know for sure.

47712 now sadly a shadow of her former self at Crewe, de-named and its future not looking great.

Those Thumpers were certainly looking on their last legs. Nice parallel arrival by the 442 & 47 at 3:49.

if you're going to call it a 47 clagfest then it should be 47's only not pesky DMU'S or EMU's big fan of 37's and 33's.

Wow,,,that first shot looks more like Basingstoke in the 80's! Some of that old Rolling Stock was so ugly and decrepit!
