Trains in the grass : GP16 couples to a GP7 on the ND&W Railroad

PREX 1603, an EMD GP16 rebuilt by the Seaboard Coast Line in the late 1970's arrives into Cecil Ohio on the Napoleon, Defiance and Western Railway. This is the former Maumee & Western Railroad famous for their bad track! Pioneer Railcorp now owns the operation and conditions are much improved. The "mainline" they're on is the former N&W 5th district from New Haven Indiana to Toledo Ohio. The crew couples to PREX 105, a Gettysburg GP9 and starts that engine. They shove south on the former Cincinnati Northern to switch the Lafarge cement plant, one of the lines biggest shippers. They receive waste oils for their kilns and ship out dry cement. After some shuffling, shunting and switching they return north with 4 loads of cement.

Im happy to see theyve been improving their lines instead of them getting abandoned. I love to see any railroad make a comeback. We've lost too many.

Kudos to Pioneer for DOING SOMETHING about that hot mess! I love old Geeps, that Gettysburg one in particular; but look at that blocky NS 5001!! My favorite kind of engine!

Yes they're doing good. I'm curious what changes will come now that Pioneer has been bought out. I shot a long drone scene of 5001 but accidentally deleted it so that is why I just tacked the footage onto the end of this!

There was just one time that me and my friends were in this unfamiliar town, but it was really beautiful. We got some ice cream and I saw some locomotives like these coupling. I had no idea what it might be, but then I realize now, possibly the ND&W

I also think that the ND&W and Wabash Central should merge or at least share ideas about how to improve the shared rights-of-ways, because both carriers have the same problems...lot's of right-of-way in need of upgrading.

I'm not usually so vocal, but what the ND&W needs to do is purchase a few hi-rail vehicles and send crews out with a pair of weed wackers to clear the tracks of weeds.

I believe their MOFW crew outnumbers the train crews but they have 50 ish miles to maintain and repair.
