Quality railroad and railfan videos since 2008 primarily filmed in the NW Ohio and eastern Indiana region. New for 2017 I've added Great Lake Ships to the video material available here.
Scott, I love your videos. In the aerials, is the sound of the locomotives from a microphone in the drone or is it from ground level? Thanks for sharing!
Just a hint of autumn color which actually won't be all that far away. Such a large yard but unfortunately rather empty. Certainly an interesting train and then it looked like an operating demo derby with all those banged up scrap cars. Even though they didn't have the draw bar between them it's amazing to still see the AMGX aluminum cars formerly from Detroit Edison still in service. As always thanks for covering these obscure locations
The rails once belonged to a different freight company and the freight company that owns the tracks was MMA and they didn't stay in business so the train tracks were abandoned until this train from the nd&w railroad tested their luck by using two gp39 locos pulling four boxcars and two grain cars behind it
I can see it now the FRA inspector pulls up than the track owner pulls up the track owner gets out with a fat envelope hands it to the FRA inspector the FRA inspector says nothing to see here and drives off 😂😂
Since this was captured, the track inside Middle Point was upgraded to continuous welded rail. This line sometimes gets a wide range of traffic. Trains will take a detour through here if the yards in Chicago are too backed up. It got a daily oil train from the Bakken for awhile. (back when that was a thing) It also carried the special use cars that brought in the poles, heads and blades for the local wind farm. Great shots of the former PRR line!
