Obviously first step makes sense, He has to acquire assets to make big moves in the future. I’m willing to be patient as long as he for the love of God do not allow the exact same roster step on the floor next season.
Time to trade Cade. This is not fair to him AT ALL. Frankly, if I'm Cade, I'm holding out until I'm traded. This is EXACTLY the same rhetoric we heard when they hired Troy. As for a Developmental coach didn't they already have Coach Casey, whom the players loved like a stern father, already there? My goodness this team is frustrating. They are also tacitly admitting that no FA wants to sign here, so they're going dumpster diving in bad contract trash pile hoping for a lucky break. Sigh. This thing is 5 years away from anything of significance. Next year is a tank job. Prepare for the 5th pick in 2025.
@@teezzz9645 I just think that’s the same mistake Weaver made. He made small moves and took on bad contracts. Every team will get better at our expense
@Musicizmyremedy weaver didn't take on bad contracts, he gave them out. Taking on bad contracts means receiving draft capital and young players along with the overpriced guy, which was the OKC Thunder strategy

Fontecchio looked good, but he only played 16 games for us. Love to keep him, but there is likely a reason he was on the bench with the Jazz, who are not great. He’ll likely be a nice bench piece; I worry if we have to count on him as a significant starter.
This was a great press conference in my opinion. I think both Tom and Trajan were honest and clear how things were going to be. I think the most important thing that was said was that we can’t “skip steps.” It tells me that they are going to try to do this development and rebuild slowly and right. We shouldn’t expect to be in play in contention right now and we can’t rush the success of the future for a playoff appearance now.
Funny How Time Changes plans. Before last season all I remember hearing from Gores and many others was that this is a *_Restore_* not a *_Rebuild._* Now it's almost, if not completely, the opposite: A Rebuild that, hopefully, will lead to an eventual Restore.
I like how hes realistic about the time its gonna take to make this team legit. I like how he actually answers questions honestly. I like how he talked about building around Cade. Also clean cut bro.
Secondly, the things Langdon stated about getting players to complement our youth/young players is the same thing Weaver had stated on a number of occasions. Weaver said he wanted to see what we had at the beginning of the season so he'd know what adjustments were needed to make the team better. Then when he brought the players in, Monty refused to play them. So Weaver did the players who weren't getting run from Monty, a solid and either waved them or traded them so they could be used by other teams.
This response is what I've been slowly appreciating more and more. I don't think this team is ready to compete, and I also do think there is anything they can do in FA to make them a play in team. I think you have to re-evaluate the young core, find out who stays, and who goes. Develop a CULTURE first, and compete later.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 There was no culture he developed. Just draft young talent and pray you can compete was Weavers goal. I didn’t say Trajans plan was good or bad. But I’m saying at this point in time, THIS is what the team should be doing.
@@Jamar-lg9ob We won 14 games and we don’t know what our best player looks like in on a functional NBA team. We can sign all these players and trade for Ingram but 3 guys won’t make this team a sustainable contender. We’ll end up just like the 2016-2019 Pistons rushing too fast to try and contend.
How incompetent can an organzation be to start a press conference over an hour late? Then its starts with Gores insufferable reminder to the fans and media that he is a phenonmenal business executive who is going to apply his Platnum Equity model by installing a "CEO who could run a steel comany." Fact is, Gores just buys and sells companies He has never actually built a sucessful company that produces a real product from the ground up. He has proven he has no clue how to build an NBA organization. Fans can only hope he is lucky on his 4th attempt with the Landgon/CEO model. Landgon came across as compenent and normal, which was a welcome change from Weaver who's presence and communication style was just plain weird. I disagree with Ku that Landgon layed out a vision for the Pistons Saying you are going to develop young players, hold people to accout for details, not skip steps are just slogans, not a BB team strategy or even statement of goals or expectations. But Langdon show some smarts by basically ducking any comittments.
Of course, he has to say he want to develop the young core. But if he was honest, he would had said. In order to win I must GUT out the entire roster ( exception of Cade Cunningham ) to be a competitive team in the league.
I actually think gore was referencing that leadership responsibilities weren't clear and the leadership was factioned due to the poor structure. The office wasn't built for success regardless of who was in each role. Individually, he liked the leadership but not as a whole.
It seemed like the whole presser was an indirect indictment of troy and Monty. Troy for the asset management as you mentioned and leadership. And Monty for the continued emphasis on player development that they mentioned, clearly indicating Monty fell short in this area. I think they think they will be better with the same young core and a new coach with better supporting pieces, which I agree with. But it's just sad that last year was just a total waste and regression year because of Monty and troys failures.
Moving back in this draft is an obvious idea. There will be little difference between the players available at 5 to 25 in this draft. The question is who can you find that likes someone enough at 5 to give anything up.
@@matheusnavesborges2720 if we are going to move it I’d want something concrete from the team, not just picks. Even if it is a lower pick and a solid bench guy.

@locked on pistons . Bro how can we not address starting the presser an hour late? Langdon talked about how they want to keep time in everything they do- even returning phone calls on time. Said this affects every aspect of the organization and sets the standard for success….then why on EARTH did they start an hour late? Terrible look and makes it seem like they’re all talk and they don’t back up what they say. If a player showed up an hour late to a critical tryout for the team and blamed it on traffic, they’d rightly say that’s a poor excuse and they should have found a way to plan for those factors. That would be terribly unprofessional. So why do we accept that from the owner and the new PBO? I’m optimistic about Langdon but this is a HORRIBLE way to start. I can’t get past that asinine misstep. They want fans to buy in to this new regime but they show up late like this
Or maybe the problem was not making Weaver the head chef. Tellum & Gores are the problem. Hopefully Langdon will be better at manipulating them into making good decisions.
The goal should be go from laughing stock to respectable, then build from there, people wanna go from door mats to championship over night that’s not realistic add to the young core and go from there!!!
Why just you don't say: same ole Piston garbage basketball for the next 10 years??? Gores doesn't care, the new coach will be a high school coach that has no experience in the NBA!!! What Monty needed to repair obviously was the franchise all time worst record result of last season. There isnt a secret reason, although I know there is more behind the scenes to come out some day, but Tom didnt say anthing veiled. He mentioned Stan V. and Troy by name when he spoke.
They took a huge step just by firing Monty. And then another by hiring a shooting coach that teaches guys to shoot better, not worse like the previous guy that was here 8 years ago
Cades extension is all but concrete. His personal trainer said “I love Detroit” and many people think he was subliminally stating that Cades extension is all but written in stone.
Yo Good stuff! One thing you mentioned tho was the Langdon quote and I think it’s possible we misunderstood his quote. It was a little unclear. He said “bringing in contracts and gathering assets” It may not mean both at same time. Could be 2 separate goals
You think he’s gonna bring in contracts without gathering assets? Bringing in contracts obviously means contracts other teams are trying to shed which means we’d obviously be gaining assets to give another team cap relief. You’re overthinking it bro. It really is that simple.

Especially if he believes that Cade is our guy moving forward. Because I can see Cade wanting out after next season if we don’t at least get close enough to a “potential play in situation” next season. Ku, you speak with a forked tongue. You talk about GM Weaver not handling front office issues and POBO Langdon doing so. Well, by job description, they are two totally different roles. So to expect Weaver to do things that are not in his job description is totally unrealistic.
I didn't think that was a shot at Weaver as much as an admission of lack of Leadership from from Tom and Arn as they never hired a President. They hired Weaver as a GM, and then Tom and Arn tried to piece together the President role. That was what I took away from it.
Leadership/culture begins with a winner,a champion. Canada Wiggens would feast jn the East. Wings are valued highly. Wiggens needs to escape Drays antics dramatizing his bestie, Poole. Then, acquire Poole. Cade's Robin.
If your take away is correct about asset acquisition is correct here is a lost of players I think they may target: Zach Lavine, Brandon Ingram, Jerami Grant, Dejonte Murray, Ben Simmons, Karl Anthony Towns, and DeAndre Hunter.
@@soatmos it doesn't matter if fans think they're worth it, that's what asset acquisition means - not giving up picks for guys. We are not acquiring a star any time soon unless it's a vastly over paid "former" star like Ben Simmons.
@@luniz4209 They can "acquire assets" with other moves. What's the point of having money if you don't make moves that ultimately lead to winning? Ingram and Murray are worth losing assets for. Every trade has some assets in the deal. The players themselves are "assets." If by "assets" you mean draft capital only, it still remains that those "assets" become players or trade chips. Same thing. How you use your "assets" matters. I'd love to see Cade paired with either of these two guys, or both. Both can score and are older than the average age, but still young enough to be here long term and still be productive. Picks are 50/50 crap shoots usually.
*_Bad_* contracts. Albatrosses and more albatrosses. So basically we should get ready for another potentially *_Bad_* season or Seasons collecting *_Bad_* contracts for who knows how long to go from *_Bad_* to good. Great. After the horrendous season we had last year I wouldn't even associate the word *_Bad_* with the upcoming season. Now I know why some people want Bill Laimbeer as Head Coach. He took the Detroit Shock from *_Worst to First_* in not only one year but won a championship in the same year he did it. Guess that's a bit too much of an ask right now.
@@thewordkeeper I was hoping this past season had finally convinced fans and Gores that tanking doesn't work. This year we will extend Cade. That will essentially make him untradable until summer 2025. But we will not have much if any cap space to work with. So the options to upgrade the roster will be very limited. Summer of 2026 Ivey and Duren have their extensions or maybe they end up being S&T options. At this point Cade will be able to put pressure on the Pistons to start winning but we will need to pull off a blockbuster trade which is easier said than done. 2027 our future draft picks will have more value making a major trade easier to accomplish. Ausar also gets extended. Some of the young guys could potentially be included in trades. But we still might miss out on the deals we want. Or we might find that out big swing wasn't a home run. Now we have to decide to gamble on keeping Cade or trading him while we still have leverage. Sadly trading Cade is probably the better option. But such a trade should provide a huge pile of future picks which will allow us to actually trade for the players we need to be a playoff team.
RU-vid runs advertisements but doesn't pay content creators much so they need to get sponsors. I think You Tube offers ad free subscriptions if you don't want to see ads.
Lastly, Weaver came in here with NO assets to build from and reasonable cap space. Langdon comes in with much better assets and more cap space than anyone else in the league, so his floor is a ton higher than what Weaver had.
Weaver started with no assets, but then he traded away future assets to try and jump start the rebuild. Then he collected mismatched assets and robbed the future, when he should have been collecting future assets.
We might as well allowed Troy to finish his vision. Langdon piggy backing at Troy going through the tough years to clear up our cap and draft young players. If they was overriding Troys decisions, then they didnt respect Troy. They better win, or its going to look really really bad.
Troy didn't enforce the details of making sure that the coaching staff stayed in communication with the players, with the medical staff, or with the front office. Troy focused primarily a lot on the basketball side of things but neglected a lot of the balance in regards to the collaborating efforts of the entire operations of the franchise
Houston proved there's a way to both develop the core 4 and play winning basketball. FVF, Brooks and Jeff Green didn't jump off the screen from a production perspective, but what they did was provide a baseline on how to follow Ime's scheme, play hard (which imo wasn't really an issue for us), and take the load off Sengun/Jabari/Green. If we can find those similar types of vets via FA or trade, there's no reason why we couldn't do something similar (especially in a dogshit East)
True but some of those bad contract players (e.g. Grant, DeAndre Hunter etc) can also really help develop the core. I guess my point is there may be a way to accomplish both, depending on which players they look to take on + sign to bolster the roster depth
That's a bad example & it speaks to Troy's incompetence. Everyone knows Brooklyn don't own their 1st round picks and yet Troy still was happy to engage with them. If a team's desperate enough (esp if owners don't want to pay luxury tax), they will give up actual picks
@@RVK11-lr2no two 2nds wasn't good value but the Pistons needed one to get Morris and had just used little more than one to get Sasser. So getting one first wouldn't have been a vastly better outcome.

Thanks to Troy we don’t have all that many valuable picks, so it would be more like Ivey, Duren, Stew and picks to even get Utah to talk to us. Is it worth shipping off that much young talent, future picks and tying up cap space or should we just tie up caps space in free agency?
