Monty gets let go and the Lakers immediately jump on him lol. Monty’s mistake was going to a team in the rebuilding process as he’s past that at this point in his career. It’s funny how many people trash him for not starting Ivey when he simply wasn’t in shape at the beginning of the year and had to play into getting in shape.
Monty never was passionate about Detroit or it's basketball program. Complete circus show all season and he managed to put us in the record books smfh...
Many times during season, I was convinced Weaver was instructing Monty to lose, to lock in a top 3 lottery pick.....just like San Antonio blatently did last season and OKC did for 3 years in a row...it's normal for teams to do this in NBA. The other reason why I was convinced of Weaver tanking was purposely not bringing ANY veteran help whatsoever, except when forced to due to making a few trades and getting them in package. He had ZERO legitimate intention of bringing in any help. Which other teams did that? OKC refused to play any veterans- forcing them to sit half of season without playing (e.g. Horford); Spurs purposely used Sochan as point guard even though he has no skills in that area. All for tanking. Monty is not a horrible coach but he had a situation of purposely having to lose, of course under the guise of "evaluating players; evaluating lineups", as well as fake injuries. When Weaver left for whatever reason, Monty was on thin ice since his partner in tank was gone. Portland and Utah should be investigated by the NBA for what they did after All-star break, basically forfeiting the season. BUT their Gms are sticking with the plan, unlike detroit.
The timing of this is terrible, even if the idea was vindictive. That they LOATHED Monty so much they waited until the majority of head coaching vacancies were filled (or deep in their interview process) so Monty wouldn't have a chance at those jobs, ie the Lakers or Cavs. Also, why bring in Fred Vinson? Isn't that one of Monty's guys? They gonna null his contract? And now it's a week before the draft and the Pistons haven't even begun their coaching search yet, so barring some sort of miracle, the Pistons won't have a head coach for input for the draft or potential trade opportunities that may crop up to improve the roster. In other words, the Pistons look exactly the way they did when they threw a ton of money at Monty in the first place -- like the worst run franchise in the NBA now that MJ has sold his team to Gabe Plotkin. They're a national news media punchline, a pariah, a laughingstock. Firing Monty, even if it may lead to positive results down the road, only reinforces how bad the decision it was for Gores/Weaver to hire him was in the first place. They look incompetent... the arrogant whale at the gambling table who gets patiently skinned and fleeced by all the pros at the table who know how to handle a fat mark when they see one. It looks like a panic, desperate move for a once-proud franchise that has eroded all credibility with its fanbase, diminished year after year by the most pathetic stewardship in the NBA.
@@obi3924 yes I know he SAID that but for 4 years this dude worshipped the ground Killian hayes walked on...not forgetting that at all..now he's saying that was a mistake come on now.
Talk about a legal robbery wow. 65 million could be used to feed hungry children or something useful. But instead this bum gets it for sitting on his ass. Unfair world we live in.
I don’t know how you can add a healthy Cade, plus Asuar and wind up worse than the year before without either of them unless the coach gets some of the blame.
God...national media coverage of this is such a joke.. I literally just saw Ramona Shelburne say firing Monty was " an indictment of the pistons organization"..... Good thing we got you Ku
I do agree with the firing - but let's keep in mind that the goal is not to fire Monty Williams - the goal is to improve the head coaching! No guarantee the new coach will be an improvement (though the bar is pretty low).
Its more about what JE3 didn't say that was telling. Yes he was dropping the bread crumbs/clues as to what was going on behind the scenes. The discourse in this front office has always been a concern. Will be interesting to see how much power & influence Langdon has over the operation or will he just have the power in title only🤔
1st Listen...what's up Ku. Great show my G. All we can do is see who's the next guy and we can judge a lil bit from there. Monty only took the job for the money, his head was never in it. This was no doubt the right decision. Peace out Ku.
