My ideas and talking about transit in the city of Bradford were a try and justify further investment in infrastructure and the possibility of a light rail system.

The thing with tram-trains is trains are heavy rail and trams are light so you don't want them to crash into each other, so you have to spend lots on signalling upgrades and new track, you also need high-frequency stopping routes so they cant share with HSTs (LNER). trams are low floor so you have to build new platforms so its much faster and simple to build trams on the road, and if you take space away from cars for trams less people drive (Constrained/Induced demand)

Yes your right about the issues with having them run along lines with intercity fast trains, yet as identified in the Combined Authorities plans running them atleast on the Aire Valley line is being considered suggesting it would be possible. But, the main reasion I suggest them rather than them having their own right of way is because Bradford is heavily car-dependant and therefore doing such would cause an upheaval in Nimby opposition and within local politics, that has been demostrated with the protests about the clear air zone. But, overall it would still be better for the trams to have their own right of way to allow for better overall operation.

Maybe Bradford could consider having tram-trains. And could also extend to Leeds and to extend to Leeds Bradford Airport which is near to Bradford and Leeds. As Sheffield has the Class 399 Citylink tram-train that is used on the Rotherham Parkgate extension.

What do you think about the Edinburgh tram expansion and possible expansions?

Whilst taking into consideration that I'm no expert on the matter. I wouldn't be against the expansion of the Trams in Edinburgh, yet the capital required and the bad experience during the initial construction I think leaves people and the government both local, regional and national with a bad taste in their mouths. I think that the most important moment is right now as I have a feeling that the success or failure of the extension to Newhaven will set the precedent for any other extensions in and around Edinburgh.
