Personally, I think/feel suspended chords is what makes melodies and harmonies feel "trance-y"; makes them feel less cheesy and more ethereal

Thank you, that was really informative. Amazing that by just moving the chord notes around you can produce such a fantastic sound. I have learnt a lot - now to put it into practice. Thanks again.

Happy New Year Demis! Long time DJ here but completely new into music production and I have to say these tutorials from you are absolutely gems !!! A shame that you have "only" about 5000 subs... Have to be at least 10 times more for sure ! I'm working very hard to get into all this stuff and its a lot of input for a newbie but you helped me a lot so far ! Thank you very much for your effort doing these tutorials !

I tend to do plain boring chords following say a 1-5-4 or 1-4-6 pattern. I also tend to have an Arpeggio as my main melody. Starting off very simple and I don't tend to waiver too much from what I know. Templates do help get the ideas and workflow going, music theory and such helps as well. Very good

This is the tutorial I definitely need. Always struggling with building chord progressions. You make it look easy but when I look at my daw it becomes confusing.
@demishellen
@demishellen 4 года назад
Persistence and passion will make it stick dude. Write down the octaves played in on the original and then you have a reference with out having to go back and forth. Some daws like Cubase let you see notes from all midi clips you select. 💪🏽😎

So in summary you choose some chords in their basic interval structures and then transform them by using inversions?

Hello~~Can I creat a chords which root is different from bass?I can't play them Harmony...
@demishellen
@demishellen 4 года назад
The root is the core of your sound just like planet root is the core of its growth. You can understand chords more at www.scales-chords.com their are a lot of tools to help you there.

Yes you can, if you know what you are doing. All the great classical music composers did this.

Can you not just use a synth piano or sampler machine to create this in real time and record?
@TJ-hs1qm
@TJ-hs1qm 3 года назад
it somehow bugs me that you completely skipped the rhythmic part, that little trill you added goes a long way for example.
@Sunstatemusic

The most trance tunes have only 4 main chords progression often with inversions in its repetition with 4/4 meter. It's a very primitive musical construction.
@demishellen
@demishellen 4 года назад
It does depend on the trance listened to. We could say all music is primitive because we use the same chords. It’s our interpretation through sound design that gives those chords a new flavour.

@@demishellen i myself have about 15 uplifting trance releases, wrote long chord progressions base, but main popular hits like tracks of Kandi, Armin, Tyas are very short in its chords.

I agree however those artists are accounting for a more mainstream audience.

@LawfulT

To be frank, you change the progression so much it's not really recognizable anymore from what you started with. What you describe as "vanilla" I describe as "better," in a lot of cases. I don't understand what makes a chord vanilla or not, to me its either pleasing or not pleasing. A lot of the times I feel like you opt for a less pleasing chord because the pleasing chord is "vanilla."
