In this video i show the difference between the trangia 25 and the trangia 27 cook sets. The billy cans are compared also. The main difference is the size of the cook sets, this video shows them side by side for a real comparison. I hope it helps anyone who is looking for a Trangia and does not know which one to go for ;)

Finally! A good informative comparison of the 2 systems. I didn’t know there were billy cans. Now I want the 27 billy can to finish off my set. Recently purchased a Chinese copy gas burner for my set. Brilliant addition at a fraction of the original cost and clean pots too.

Excellent video for campers trying to decide which set to get. I decided on the 27 series with the billy can. I purchased the multi-disc strainer, winter attachment, prints gas burner, 25 orange cover bag, and a pan stand so I could use my percolator to make coffee. Brilliant design and it is so easy to use, even on a windy day.

Great subject for a video! I’m pretty much a 25 guy. I’ve put a few kits together and I really like it. I like that one can fit both the gas burner and the alcohol burner inside the 25 tea kettle. Also the 25 is compatible with the gsi stainless steel tea kettle which compliments the Duossal pots nicely.

I got the 25 Trangia.. specifically for "bugging IN" situations where there's no power. It's also great for Car Camping. I can see for a one person hiker that the smaller 27 model would be a good choice though. Both are excellent choices.. depending on your needs. Thanks for the side by side comparison.. most helpful.

I have both size Trangia stoves in the review. I have noticed it is hard to find other pots which sit in or on those two stoves securely. MSR does make fairly thick Stainless steel pots with lids and a folding handle to hold the lid on, or for storage, or to hold the pot like a frying pan, and they offer a size which fits each Trangia stove. Ideal for tomato based foods or sauces. Thanks for all your efforts. I am learning a lot. - FARMERIK in USA

Thanks for doing the vid. Just bought a 25-8 system. Weight is 1025g. The 27-8 weighs 825g, so only 200g difference. Insignificant difference in height of the packed systems, so it really comes down to diameter and weight. I'm using it primarily for motorcycle camping, so the added size and weight aren't really that big of a deal, and I felt the 25 system was more useful to do real cooking with.

@tlarsson5514
@tlarsson5514 Год назад
Trangia has a rather difficult part numbering system. Will provide some basic pieces of the puzzle to give more understanding what these numbers mean. The larger storm cooker, 25, was the twenty-fifth item sold by Trangia. The Trangia 27 was the seventy-seventh item that Trangia produced and sold. This is the main rule for how Trangia has built up the item system. The next number, like the even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0, indicates that the set is equipped with a coffee pot. An odd number describes which material such as wind protection, pots and frying pans have. The number 3, 5, 7 and 9 means that the set has a non stick frying pan, but no coffee pot. The pots are made of the same material as the wind shields. Trangia 27-7, -8, -9 and -0 where wind protection, pots can be made of different materials, eg wind protection in standard alu, and frying pans in hard anodized aluminum or non stick and the pots in hard anodized aluminum, and with or without a coffee pot ( even or odd number). Duossal and Blackversion have a different part number system.

Got myself an 80s Trangia 25 cook system for less than 30€. And I was finally able to get a 25 duossal pan for the normal stock price (they've been sold out since several months and easily need a month to be stocked up again). I realized how the old (robust) 25 pan seems to weight the same like the 25 duossal pan (did not check the weight, just my impression). I must say, I dig the design of the old cooking system more with its sturdy look, even if it weights more. And those old ones on the second hand market are often less covered with dents, than used UL systems imo. Mine has no defects like that at all. Just needed a good cleaning to shine again. I think the aluminium pots of the old set are fine for cooking, as long as it's not something acidic. But panwise I love me some salty and sour stuff, so I feel more confident with a duossal pan. The teflon version has 50/50 opinions. Some love it, but admit how fragile the coating is. Others dislike it because some experienced that the coating stuck to their i.e. meat. So in that case I rather take the risk with pure aluminium than teflon or go duossal (like I did) and consider some scrubbing after dinner, which is at least not harmful to the pan. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, mate! It really helped when I had no Trangia system at all! Cheers!

I bought the 25 series HA Trangia. I do a lot of cycle touring and was told by other cycle tourists to get the bigger one as cooking with the 27 series you will often have to cook again as the pots are too small to cook enough to fill cycle tourers bellies. It was good advice. So pleased I didn't get the smaller 27 series. Also it doesn't help that Trangia reverse label the different size stoves i.e. call the smaller one the 27 and the larger one the 25 series. Bonkers. But aside from this they are great stoves everything you need packaged like a Russian doll. I would also get the HA pans, the gas burner and an extra pan handle. File down the edges as they can be a bit sharp! Also Trangia should provide them with the fabric carry bag which they don't which is extra and which is a bit naughty really, jacks up the total price if you want one to protect it.

Great video. As you say, a side by side comparison of the 2 sets is useful. I have a fairly venerable 27 "Duosel" kit (aluminium lined with stainless steel - no longer made) which has stood the test of time. With the arrival of grandkids I have sometimes thought a 25 might be more useful. I have the 2.5 billy on order and, as you say, it will bring the 27 up to 25 level potential! Keep up the good work.
@pedroclaro7822
@pedroclaro7822 Год назад
Actually I’m glad to say the duossal is back for sale!!! It is indeed praiseworthy. The best kit out there, and probably the best ever made. I heard someone say the size and weight difference between 27 and 25 isn’t that substantial, and the size difference makes the 25 much easier and pleasant to cook on, so I’m going with that instead of the suggested by manufacturer and this reviewer. Although the fact that I’m going solo, I do hope it will be temporary :) if it is, I’ll be ready hahah

Thank you for this video. Very helpful! I wonder if they are compatible - as in: can you put the smaller pots in the bigger series windshield? I have a trangia and for now I am using a minimal setup with just the stove, a cross stand and aluminum foil. But for more cooking I want more comfort...
@tedspang1945
@tedspang1945 5 лет назад
I just got 27- 3 Series and it's by far the best. What I found is it's adaptive to other pots. If I'm going to cook for more than one person, instead of taking a heavier 25 series I'll just take an extra pot. I found that it adapts quite easily to my 1.5 L jetboil or my 1.5 L Primus Camp Lite pot by putting the clips in the fry pan setting. Both of these have much higher capacity with heat exchangers for faster boil times. The Primus is a heavy guage non-stick and I can fry with it all day long and is much lighter then carrying both cooker sets. It's my favorite set up.
@PaulBissekerBushcraft
@PaulBissekerBushcraft 5 лет назад
Great combination with the pots, if you're planning on using the fry position a lot get an extra windshield it helps loads when the pot is above the upper windshield :) The folding ones are good and high enough.

Nice one Paul. I bought the 25 system originally and ended up adding a 27 when I realised how big the other one was, far too big for solo use. I added the Billy to the 27 and now it’s, as you say, the perfect cook system. Wish there was a video like this back then as it would have saved me lots of money and some frustration trying to get a sense of scale for comparison.
@PaulBissekerBushcraft

I just purchased one awhile back. One thing I’d like to know is how heat resistant the aluminum is. Trangia says it is a higher grade aluminum but Generally they say aluminum can melt from open flame. One thing I’d really like to see a video of is somebody trying to start a small fire in the base / windscreen which is big for me because if you could use this with as a cook set and a personal fire pit this would be absolutely the perfect camp set

Nice to see you back out there Paul, it's funny they say both 27 pots are one litre. I seem to remember checking once (that's the kind of life I live!), and the inner one is only 800ml. Pedant? Me?

Yeah i know, when you cook in them you need good head room so practically they are even smaller for real use. I don't use my small pots all that often, i prefer the billy can.

For me it was the kettle that was the main difference . I love Trangia I have the 27 but had to get the bigger kettle in case I had company .

Hi Paul. I just dug out the box for my 25-2 set. I think it is 1990s vintage, but can't find a date on there. The correct capacities are: 1.5 and 1.75 litre pots, 900ml kettle, and 22cm frying pan. Weight of 1290g. I too added the gas burner you recommended, which brings it up to about 1500g, with my home-made bag. The second number denotes whether it has a kettle in the kit (even numbers) and the surface finish. Plain ally, non-stick, or anodised. Keep 'em comin'. All the best.

Is there any diffrence in boiling time ? Try 2 cups of water

For the 25, about two minutes with the gas burner/rocket engine, or 7-8 for the spirit burner. 500ml of tap temperature to rolling boil. Put the kettle on the flame as soon as it's lit. Don't wait for bloom, you're just wasting heat.

I would guess that the 25 would be quicker due to the surface area of the kettle. This being said it has to be the same amount in each kettle. The shallower the water and larger kettle base will heat quicker ;)

i'm lucky enough to own a 25 and a 27, both with duossall pots and i love them and no, they are not for sale... like this guy in the video says the 27 is a personal stove, the 25 is a 2-3 person stove. when reading the specifications for both stoves you wouldn''t think there would be much of a difference but in-person, the 25 is much larger and also a lot heavier.

Hi Paul your videos are great. I hope you can answer a question for me. Is the pan for the camping set 24 the same pan for the Trangia 25 set? The Trangia website says that the 25 set pan is 220 mm whereas the camp set one is 200mm. I'm trying to figure out if the 25 series pan will sit atop the billy just the same. Thanks so much!!
