Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! Now travel vlogging is our full-time gig and we feel like we have the greatest job in the world! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

I just want to add two really useful points to anyone looking to this video before going on the transiberian railway: 1. There is a list of stops om the wall with the amount of time the train stops at each location so you know if you can get off or not. 2. The best part of travelling thus railway is the people you meet so I really recommend not travelling in first class. Trust me you will ne dragged into so many train picnics, card games and vodka shots! It really elevates the experience xxx

When in the 90s I went by train from Moscow to Khabarovsk, then in Ulan-Ude (Buryatia) our train braked sharply at night and I fell down from the top bed. At that time there in the chamber was a built-in speaker, a power button and a volume control of the internal train-radio above the window . The train driver was a DJ and put in cassette tapes he liked. I remember that on the way back I layd about half a day on the top bed and looked thru the window at the boundless Lake Baikal listening to the Beatles hits :)

On the other side on the train from Moscow to Rostov I was in a cart full of Mexicans and we had a party at the restaurant all the way until they closed at 11, and drinking warm vodka tonics because there was no ice haha, great memories from Russia and the World Cup, I hope to be back one day!

Russia did a fantastic job hosting the world cup: embassies processed 1000s of visas easily, and the city was really cleaned up before the game. They can really get their shit together for an event like this, and it seemed like there were no real problems during the game period. Kudos to Russia, you did an excellent job hosting the football, it should have made you all very proud of your country!

Alyssa McArthur You are digging yourself a deeper hole. “ An Cyrillic” ? I can’t think of a grammatical construct in the English language that has An before Cyrillic. I just followed your lead to stereotype Southerners when you said “your words run together “ like that is even a thing. Now you are hot and heavy coming to bat for the guy in the video offering novel explanations on why someone would substitute Cyrillic for acrylic. Thanks but I do get my fair share of pussy 😀 But I have to turn around and suggest the same to you if you are out batting and coming up with lame explanations for a guy who said something ignorant and moronic and put it out for the whole world to watch it.

Part of the appeal of long train journeys is eating in the restaurant car. It's surprisingly good, given the obvious limitations. Just ask the conductor for a key to your compartment when you leave to have dinner. Don't leave it unlocked.

The train has a clear schedule with how many minutes it stops in each station. You have to be a clueless moron not to have done any reading or research to keep asking the Provodnitsa in sign language. Oh and if you go to Russia and call yourself a travel vlogger and world traveler, learn some basic Russian. This whole trip was epic fail and a guide for how not to do this epic train journey I did this up and down ( nonstop 7 day on the Westbound train) and this whole video made me laugh.

Just in case, upside down lower case H letter is called "Che" and is pronounced as "ch". Long-distance train number consists of tree digits and one letter, while suburban train numbers consist only of four digits. Letters in train numbers are used for coding destinations. For example, 001A train will take you from Moscow to St. Petersburg, and train 001M - from Moscow to Vladivostok. Digits in the number code type of the train: 001-150 rapid train available the year around (all stops are relatively short and minor stops are omitted), 151-298 seasonal rapid train, 301-450 so called passenger (it would not skip minor stops), 451-598 seasonal passenger train, 701-750 rapid train (mean speed 91 km/h and higher), 751-788 ultra rapid train (speed 161 km/h and higher). If the number is even, than the train moves to the East or the North. If the number is odd, the train goes to the West or the South.

it would make sense if you stay at few cities for few days, stretch the 7 day trip into 14 days. It is cheap to stay in a basic hotel near any train station. You see and meet locals. Just taking 7 day trip from moscow to Vladivostok or Beijing without any stops ... is not recommended.

During the Soviet era and later to the train stop came an old woman (babushka) and selling your homemade food: hot boiled potatoes, chicken, cottletes, pickles, pies. It was very tasty and not expensive. So it was on all stations. Generally the train is always the dining car 🌲🌲🌲Во времена ссср и позже к остановке поезда приходили бабушки и продавали свою домашнюю еду: горячую вареную картошку, котлеты, соленые огурчики, пирожки. Это было очень вкусно и не дорого. Так было на всех станциях. Вообще в поезде всегда есть вагон-ресторан

Also Katusha, the 'hot water dispenser' that Kara and Nate refer to is the ubiquitous Russian 'Samovar' that you see everywhere in the country. It's such a civilised thing: hot water available anytime. The train and the trip just sound fabulous! For Westerners, we imagine/fantasise about reading some of the great Russian writers (Dostoyevsky etc), while riding a train like the Trans-Siberian. Russia: a beautiful, fascinating country with its own incredible culture - we are in awe of your writers, and even musicians (Tschaikovsky, Mussgorsky etc) too. I just wish our government's could get along better too! But for average people in the West - we are fascinated by Russia, and most respectful and grateful of your contribution to the world of culture: writing, philosophy, and music!

Awesome adventure and video Nate & Kara! My then wife and I took the Trans Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing in 1988 just before the fall of the former Soviet Union. Yes, I agree, it was a great adventure! You probably learned more Russian, while you were on the train, than you let on to know but for your viewers… the hot water makers/ dispensers aboard each train car are called “samovars” and the beautiful ornate hot water glass holders are called “podstakanniks”. Regarding the Cyrillic alphabet, the upside down lower case “h” is pronounced “Che” as in the English word “chat”. We too had reserved a First Class cabin but once we arrived to board our train in Moscow, they told us there were no more First Class cabins. Instead we ended up each getting a bunk in separate (yet adjacent) Second Class cabins. My wife with three Swedes and me with three Russian doctors going to China to work. We were the only Americans on the train. I was greatly upset, for about a day, that we weren’t able to get the kind of cabin we paid for but then I realized that this was an amazing blessing. If we had not been split up, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to get to know these three Russians as well as I did. On the contrary, I found the others on the train friendly & willing to chat. The train appeared to be full of just Russians, Chinese and Swedes. As many of you are familiar, one of the benefits of train travel is you can walk and explore virtually all the cars on the train. This way you have the opportunity to meet more people than just those in your own train car. On one such exploration I even sat down to play game, played around the world, with a Russian… the game of chess. Check mate! In regards to food and experiencing the culture, if & when you (viewers) do take your own trip on the Trans Siberian Railway… do pack some picnic supplies for the trip before you board but, by all means, take advantage of the dining car at least once and order up a delicious hot bowl of the Russian traditional soup… “Borscht”. If you’re not familiar, it is a beet soup with a dollop of sour cream on top. Also at each station along the Trans Siberian Railway there are vendors selling food. The Russians we met were excited, with great anticipation, as we approached Lake Baikal, a massive ancient lake (deepest in the world). They appeared to have a very warm place in their hearts for this lake. At the station, many of the Russians bought packages of a favorite smoked fish of their’s (maybe called “omul”). One shared some with us. My point, regarding the advice given in my last two paragraphs, is to be sure to sample the local food along the way. It’s an important part of experiencing the culture of any new country. Очень хорошо!

I did it last month. I would recommend you get a Chinese first class ticket. The train is slightly older but you get a sink and shower in the cabin. The Chinese staff are also friendlier than the Russians. Finally I wouldn't recommend you do more than three days on the train at a time. The train does start to stink a little after. Look at the "man in seat 61" website for more info.

It is better when you learn the History of the construction of this train, and how the Czar's bragging of it's MILITARY potential of being able mobilize from Moscow to Vladivostok led to the Ruso-Japanese war. (influenced by ZIONIST jews out of New York. Also read the History of Jacob Schiff and his hatred for the Czar) Gigantic Russia LOST the War against the tiny island of Japan bc it was mostly a NAVAL WAR so much for the TRANS! LOL losing this war Pissed off the Pop. of Russia. a fact that was Exploited by the Bolshevik jews in their Overthrow attempts of the Imperial Gov. (they eventually succeeded in 1917) Last Year 2017 TWITTER had a "Live" Rehashing of events of 1917 by Fictitious Characters "re-living" the daily events of time. aptly called "1917" I'm sure it can still be found there
@Alinaver79
@Alinaver79 6 лет назад
How many porridges do you have in your head. Without the official announcement of the war, the Japanese fleet attacked the Russian squadron on the outer roadstead of Port Arthur on January 27, 1904 led to the disabling of several of the strongest ships of the Russian squadron and ensured the unimpeded landing of Japanese troops in Korea in February 1904 Russia did not invade any country and attacked them !!!! And Japan began the war for the desire to dominate in Korea. And why America fought against Japan? Teach your story first! And now let's see how many countries America has destroyed! Only for 1661-1774 from Africa in the United States was imported about a million living slaves, and over nine million died on the road. The income of slavers from this operation in the prices of the middle of the XVIII century was not less than 2 billion dollars, astronomical at that time figure. American wars begin with the first attack on the Indians in 1622 in Jamestown, followed by a war with the Algocine Indians in New England in 1635-1636. and the war in 1675-1676, which ended in the destruction of almost half the cities in Massachusetts. Other wars and skirmishes with Indians continued until 1900. In total, Americans killed about 100 million Indians, which makes it possible to talk about a real genocide that far exceeds the mass murder of Jews by Hitler (4 to 6 million victims). Since 1945, they have destroyed 73 states and are responsible for the death of 26 million people. This is a horror film.
