You won't think so if you see what those slaves went through in doing so. It's on RU-vid The laborers went thru pure hell getting the first line across Siberia living the conditions they went through "Those that survived". Human life meant nothing then.

The CircumBaikal track from Port Baikal to Irkutsk was abandoned because the track was submerged when a large hydroelectric dam was built on the Angara River near Irkutsk. Very slow trains still cover the original route between Slydyanka and Port Baikal and tourist excursions are also available. Rode that route in 2016.

Thank you for the dramatic scenes of Lake Baikal. It was dark when my train passed by the lake so I didn't see a thing - and the lake was one of the main reasons I wanted to explore Siberia in the first place! Actually I'm seeing and learning more from your video trip than I did on my Trans-Mongolian/Siberian tour in 2011. I didn't enjoy riding and sleeping in 4-bed cabin so I upgraded to first class on last leg of the trip and that was a whole different ballgame because I had the cabin to myself for most of time until I was joined by a beautiful Russian soldier. Thanks again because I'm really enjoying the virtual ride.

I like the comment about how it looks like the American West. It really does. Always felt like when that one Russian guy is dying in Hunt for Red October and says "I would have liked to have seen Montana" someone should have let him know that it's a lot like Siberia, just with a slightly different mix of trees.

What a wonderful journey you had. I've watched all five parts of it from Vladivostok to Novosibirsk. I remember learning about those two cities, Lake Baikal and other places on the Trans Siberian Railway in Geography lessons at school 57 years ago. Very interesting and as others have said, there wasn't any distracting background music. Russia looks after it's railways much better than the USA does. The sleepers (ties in America) and ballast are kept in tip-top condition. Those important components of a rail system look pretty sad in the USA. On another RU-vid video I've watched it was said (by an American) that the reason for this, is that the railways are privately owned, and the owners don't want to spend money on upkeep of the infrastructure. Also that this is apparently one of the reasons why the speed of Amtrak trains is limited. Thanks so much for posting these videos. At 20:05 in Video 4, I think you hit the wrong key on your keyboard, and “mushroom bum” should be “mushroom bun”. It certainly looks like a bun with mushrooms on it!

This is sublime. I would love is a map where you show the route of the trip in the video. How do people in some of those towns live? Do they hunt? I lived a year in the permafrost of Alaska and the natives were horribly poor. The borscht looked amazing. I grew up eating it. My grandparents were from Kyev. Also loved your commentary about the drunk hooligans in the dining car. They're ubiquitous in every country. In America, use the insulting phrase, Trailer Trash. Thanks for your work in both thoughts and images!

These area has oil, metals, timber, etc. So people mine, use that. Soviets have build huge factories that used those materials to build all kinds of things. This is interesting - Vladivostok - Moscow 1st class 700€ but from the Ulan-Ude only 80€. and it is about in the middle of the whole route. I expected it will be cheaper but not that much. I expected something between 200-300€ because it is still 1/2 of the same distance (more or less) from Vladivostok and to Moscow :D

EUR 80 is for Ulan-Ude - Irkutsk; not Moscow

I know that this train hes even a mail car, because it has russian mail's livery (and logo, maybe an former logo or outdated livery, or these cars should be replaced with newer ones, but still in use).
