This video highlights the key achievements of the Transboundary Community Resilience Project, aimed at building disaster resilience in communities along the Koshi Gandak/Narayani and Karnali river basins on the Nepal-India border.
Communities in this region face increasing risks from climate change and annual floods, exacerbated by glacial melting in the Himalayas. This project focuses on strengthening community capacity to prepare, respond, and recover from climate and disaster risks through:
Early Warning Systems (EWS): 21 communities have functional community-based EWS task forces for floods.
Community Disaster Management: Active Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMCs) now lead flood prevention and climate adaptation efforts, ensuring the protection of vulnerable groups, including women and persons with disabilities.
Local Government Collaboration: Disaster and climate risk-informed plans have been integrated into the local governments' policies.
Transboundary Cooperation: Enhanced cooperation between Nepal and India for flood preparedness and information sharing.
By empowering over 871 beneficiaries (70% women), this project ensures that the most vulnerable populations are supported, fostering a safer and more resilient future.
