chapeau james! is amazing what you accomplish. #torqueback #asGCNtraining I never start a selfsuported race or tour for fun. But am into long distances, I fond my self recently in a over 300 km event and 4000 mosl gain... I did live to tell, but was an very organized event, I did go ligth and suported in every step of the event, my training and workouts did point to go from weekend to weekend from 100 k to 150 to 180 to 190 k, ... ... I feel the desire of face the challenge then I have not decide where and how to start. where is a good event to atempt as a first self suport event? should I start doing a tour for fun by myself? how do I chose my first steps to try ultradistances?

#askgcntraining My resting pulse varies from 45-50. During interval training, in the recovery interval immediately after intense anaerobic effort (20-30 seconds after easing for about a minute or more), I tend to see my HR drop significantly, down to around 70-80BPM for up to a minute before going back up into the active recovery zone. 1. Is that normal? 2. What's the physiology behind the drop after anaerobic efforts? Logically it seems that it would go right up to try and get the oxygen to all the places I just starved? 3. Should I ask a doctor instead of a RU-vid channel?

@MichaelGambill
@MichaelGambill 6 лет назад
That is a fairly common expression in the US that is applied casually in many sporting activities. I have always taken it to mean to scratch one's name off a list of participates. Saying "scratch" is an abbreviated form of to "scratch that off the list"-done, completed, no longer needed.

#torqueback This may be a bit of an obscure ask - I wear hearing aids and the wind noise is horrendous at any speed, drowning out critical road sounds and making it difficult to ride in a group. I know there are devices you can attach to your helmet straps, but I'm not sure of their value. Do you have any tips, say from when you're capturing audio out on rides?

I have been spending more time on Zwift these days while I recover from an injury. Before I mounted the bike on the trainer, I meticulously cleaned the drive train and cassette. This got me thinking, after a could of weeks of training, do I have to degrease/clean and lube the chain like I always do - or - can I lube the chain over the old lube given that no dirt/gunk has gotten to the chain? (I rub my fingers and the drive train is pretty clean). Thank you all - #Torqueback

Hi! First of all, love the channel! I've learned a lot about cycling thru you, thank you. #torqueback I'm considering to buy a 1x CX bike with two sets of wheels, one for the road and one 27,5 with bigger tires for gravel and bikepacking . for the road I would use a 50 teeth chainring with a 11-40 cassette. My questions are, do you think that in the 11-40 the jumps between gears will be too big to find the right cadence on a group ride? do you think that the CX bike with road tires would represent a big disadvantage against a road specific bike? (my favorite option right now is the canyon inflite CF SL 8.0 RACE )

#ASKGCNTRAINING I only have 3 days per week to train and 4-7 hours per week. I am targeting a 120km time trial in a year's time. Though it would probably be ideal to do lots of sweet spot work for 8-12 hours per week I just don't have that time. Is sweet spot still the best training with my time or should I blend sweet spot with VO2 or just to all VO2 intervals? I have 10 years of cycling experience and can easily complete 120km but I want to maximize my performance.

#TorqueBack Is riding a road bike that is a size or so too small really a bad thing? I am 187cm and I live in Taiwan. Merida and Giant do not cater to the tall crowd here, and a minimum 3 month wait for special orders, if dealers can get it. I have a Giant TCR that is 50cm. The low end of my "size range" is 56cm. I understand that a TCR was inspired from mountain bike frames, which appear -for reasons I do not understand- sized differently than road bikes. A 50cm MB is just right for me, but a 50cm road bike is "too small." There is no knee or back or shoulder pain. I do notice I tend to slide forward on the saddle. Some bum-bone soreness after a bit off the bike, but it goes away. The saddle position-knee-pedal axle-drop weight seems to be in tolerable ranges. If everything is OK, does size really matter? Thank you. Or, rather "謝謝,您."

Hi so i have a nutritional question. My goal is losing weight by riding my bike. Now the rule goes, you 'need' to fuel up after 1h30 of riding. But how do I keep my calorie intake to a bare minimum then? Cause energy gels or energy powders are full of calories. Could anyone inlighten me. Cuz I'm lost. #torqueback @askgcn

Hi Bram, you are much better off fueling correctly on the bike and reducing your calorie intake off the bike. Cycling can help you burn off excess calories but should be paired with a healthy diet for successful weight loss. Base your meals on whole-grain carbohydrates such as brown rice and plenty of vegetables and fruit. Pair this up with lots of healthy fats like those in nuts, avocados and olive oil and lean protein such as fish, chicken breast and beans in every meal.
