In this week's guitar lesson, you'll learn how to play a slow and mellow guitar composition by yourself (no jam track needed), and will learn where all of the notes come from by visualizing chord shapes. You can create your own compositions using this technique

What a lesson. It will keep me busy for a whole week. Have to remember, I'm 75 years old. It's my crossword, my suduco!

Hi Brian, love how you started the melody line and all the beautiful nuances as a whole. I could play any genre as long as it has a good melody. Thanks 👍

What an amazing human you are. Thanks for the lesson! Even for an advanced player, found this chord relationship talk helpful. Man these young cats so lucky, never could afford those instructional VHS tapes in the 80's. What a treat! its a new Golden age ! LOVE that es-335. My dream is a late 1958 early 59, es-335 with NO binding.. trying to find a repo If I had that '61 I wouldn't put it down ever...

Thank you Brian for detailing your tips to playing the melody. Connecting and visualizing the chords and patterns associateds with the chords lead to a melody.

Thanks for the amazing lesson Brian. I have a newer ES 335. Your lesson helped me put my finger on what is different about these guitars. The are so resonant particularly in the bass notes. You brought out some beautiful tones with your playing. Thanks for all you do. I enjoyed the extra video with your family driving to pick up the guitar as well. Thanks for sharing it.

Hey Brian loved everything about this lesson. In my 60's myself now, still working long hours though. I've been TRYING to play guitar properly since my early 30's (my first guitar in 1968 aged 8). There's everything in here for me, from the beautiful sound of the guitar and how you've brought it back to life, really cool. The way you explain EVERYTHING in such detail and so concise it's brilliant. I am now a member and have every intention of cracking my guitar playing properly with your help when and if time allows. Brilliant thank you, you're inspirational.

There the new (old) beauty! Congrats again on an amazing guitar. I happen to be a huge Noel Gallagher fan, and I know he’s not known for his guitar playing, but his signature guitar is a red ES with a Bigsby.

Brian, I like the sound of this. It's ironic that your lessons seem to mirror things that I'm working on lately. I've been doing other, but similar things, just to practice associating melodies & "fills" with the chord shapes. Lately I've been exploring the C-shape, G-shape and E-shape chords that are in the same neighborhood, making up melodies as I go. But I've been using exclusively flat 7s (dominant 7 chords) instead of the Maj 7 ones. I've also been...uh, the best word to use would be "imitating" songs I hear on the Opry show that airs middle of night Saturday (here, anyway). No, I can't play fast enough to play "actual" Bluegrass--with one exception: The "Bluegrass-style" song that you showed us about 5 or 6 weeks ago (I think. It might be longer.) Yeah, I've always wanted to be able to play that style, so I learned your song, and practiced it until I could play it at speed, like you did. Surprisingly, I learned it quickly, and soon was playing all of it with correct rhythm, but slower. I just kept playing it until I could play it faster. I even added a couple of things that I thought it needed. In that song, like most I learn from you, I figured out how to modify it slightly so I could loop around and play (most of) it as many times as I want. Sorta like verses, I guess! Anyway, as I got better at playing it, I modified a few things, mainly adding some new notes. I also changed the way you ended it, I turned it into a "proper" BG ending, where I repeated phrases making small changes as I "circled in for a landing." Maybe I'll record it for ya. Anyway, thanks for another great lesson! I learn a lot from you, and my playing just keeps getting better! 👍👌🤪

Hello, I’ve been playing guitar for 2 weeks now. I wanted to ask if u can recommend me a plan how I should practice. I have now learned the basic accords and can play a bit “Hey Joe by Hendrix” Could u give me please a tip how I can best use the 1 hour a day ?? Because sometimes it feels like iam playing around and it has no real use. Thanks 🙏🏻

@@activemelody makes sense. Have a custom 65 335 so was curious how you’re getting your tone. I’ve a tonemaster reverb and I’ve never been fully happy with it. Although that’s probably my lack of tone shaping skills !
