Definitely my favourite channel now dude. I learn a new genius bad habit every video 🤣, love the way you mounted the diodes to the switch. They looked a lot better than my efforts when I twist the legs together. Good work Joe
Inspired by this (plus cheap pedals & octave fuzzes), I've just picked one up used on the evil bay. I'll try one or 2 of these mods and definitely do something about the paint, so looking forward to your vid on this.
@CrazedFandango Thank you mate thats awesome! I cant wait to hear how you get on. I'm absolutely going to do the painting video once I get into my new workshop.
Quick technical note, I would strongly recommend not using super glue or any kind of cyanoacrylate adhesive on electronics, I have found that it corrodes some materials and can cause problems down the road. I use a lacquer based formula for the applications that you were using the super glue for, we used to use clear or colored nail polish, or an enamel paint like ones used on plastic models as well.
That was a lot of fun! Have watched a few of these now. Fascinating, and Joe, your commentary always gives me a laugh. In my opinion the base pedal is definitely elevated by these changes. Thanks heavens for those with skill, passion and creativity to show people how to do this! Nice one Joe!
@danottley2627 Cheers mate I really do appreciate the kind d words. I am very grateful you have watched a few of them, I'll keep up the humour and mods in the coming weeks, that's for sure.
@DevilAndSons That was exactly my thoughts. I'm the same with Al.odt all other circuits too. I even find the same thing with the Klon, apologies to everyone who raves about the 'magic' clipping diodes in that one!
Cool vid mate deffo gona try n turn the backwards ones and swap the two around… this is my last ever RU-vid comment… I have the caline version fuzzy face voodoo octive version which I guess is exactly the same! It’s nasty but cool tbh and the octave comes out when tone up full and on higher frets n lower strings but is pretty subtle. The fox tone machines octive is really apparent, so hoping this will result in something more like that! Keep on keepin on
@matttttt8272 Thank you mate I really appreciate the support. I think you're correct, they are madenin the same factory as far as I can tell. You're going to be happy with the results for sure.
More than welcome for the support mate,! Took the caline apart and it’s the tiny little surface mount components which is a bit gutting so thinking might find a Joyo to try! 😂 live n learn! Take care
For a dope like me, it would be helpful in the video if you explained what difference the changes make. I.e, those two caps that are the wrong way round - how does swapping them around change the sound?
Do you know what mate you're absolutely correct. Funily enough last video I promised that I would start explaining each mod too 😂 Watch this space for the next few videos.
That's actually a great point mate. Here's everything I used: Sprague 10uf military spec tantalum cap x2 Mullard 100nf tropical fish cap Mullard 47nf tropical fish cap 1n4007 diodes x2 Soviet made D9E germanium diodes x2 On-Off-On DPDT toggle switch That should be everything required for the mod, although you can re use the caps and the germanium diodes that are in the pedal if you want to save a little cash. I would absolutely love to see/hear any mods you do mate.
Thank you for the great video mate! What I often do with the off position of the 3 way switch is putting in LEDs in the actual place for the clipping diodes to get just a little bit clipping grit in the middle position. But yeah, very often LEDs do not make a huge difference to no clipping in some circuits. 😅
@classicevil8982 Thank you mate. Yeah I really like this idea. I have done in the past too. I may do this with my upcoming Boss DS-1 video as its hard clipping so I can get the whole "seeing eye" mod going on.
There's an electrolytic in the octave part of the circuit thats best replaced with a bipolar electrolytic, did it so long ago its not at top of mind which.
I was planning on doing this to mine since I've found some information on a forum about the caps rotation. I just went back there now after seeing your video and noticed that they rotated the 2 caps that are marked as C9 and C15 on the PCB. C9 is immediately below the top left hand pot (fuzz). C15 is below the mid-cut switch and off to the right. Any explanation or reason why you did that with C16 instead of C15? I'm a bit uncertain on which one to make the rotation.
@allanpiacente well spotted there mate I completely hadn't seen I had done that! There you go mistake made! **LOOK DISCLAIMER** If you are reading this with the aim of doing this mod, I made a mistake as per the comment above. The Pedal sounds great and I'm definitely going to swap that cap in the future and not swap c15 but all viewers should take note and try the way the mod online states. Would you be happy with me pinning your comment mate?
Man, I wish my Voodoo Octave didn't squeal like crazy when powered 'cos I'd be all about this. It's fine with battery; tried a chunky old transformer based 9v adapter (independently). No dice. 😢
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial Yeah there's something definitely failing along that power signal - that's what I get for buying a beat up £15 one with no battery cover, online at Cash Converters 🤦♂️😄
Hello mate, new to guitar here and wondering whether to do the mod. I already have a soldering iron (and even blowtorch for plumbing) which I'm not going to use for this lol. So the soldering is not an issue for me. I am starting with the white stripes - seven nation army. Which requires some octave and I am wondering if the mod will give me more of the sound I want.
Hello mate, Firstly thank you for following along with the video. I would suggest doing both the cap mods for the tone youe after. Definitely start with the electrolytic caps that are in the wrong wat round, then test it before swapping the other two caps around. I would absolutely love to hear how you get on and I am, of course always here of you have any other questions. Joe
Thanks mate. I have swapped the 2 capacitors around and it sounds a lot better. The intro to what I'm practicing sounds a lot closer to the real thing now. I might make the other mod tonight. Unfortunately the led light for the octave up broke. I think the prods touched each other somehow and popped, so I put the led from the true bypass there. I can easily do without the true bypass led because it's obvious if that switch is on or not, unlike the octave up one.
@hellosailoreffectsofficial yup, I'm going to get one but not ordering one by itself so I'll wait until I can add it to another order when I want or need other/more things. I got wondering if I have any old devices I no longer use that have any led lights I could take from but I don't lol.
