In this video I'm going to break down step by step how I painted and transformed this kitchen for my in-laws with a budget of only $500.
My goal is to show you what is possible with a little imagination, a small budget and a lot of hard work. You can to create a stunning, modern kitchen that updates the look, feel and style of your home and you don't have to spend thousands to do it.

Thanks for keeping it real! So tired of you tube videos where women wear lovely outfits and never get dirty! I don't know anyone in real life that paints in nice clothes or cleans in nice long sleeve sweaters. Seriously, I don't appreciate feeling clutzy because you can just look at me to see what color I am painting something 😂 When I paint I tape off and cover floor with drop cloth. Your hard work is appreciated. 😊

Thanks so much Serena, I’m so glad that I can be so relatable for you. I’m definitely not fashionable even when I’m not painting I tend to wear more for comfort 😝 but my hands are constantly covered in paint and so are my fingernails. I’m glad you liked the video and the makeover.

I thought I was the only one who gets infuriated with you tubers working on something manual, full makeup, French manicure, long hair down, roses beside whatever projects they are working on, antic doilies, some cutie patootie useless and irrelevant stuff etc. Never watch this crap and never will. The only thing I'd change here is music. I'd prefer no music or way way less loud.

Thanks Faith, yes the labor component was a lot and so if you had to pay someone it would be well over $500 but what I’m trying to show is you can do it on the cheap providing that you are willing to do a whole lot of work. I really do hope it helps them sell the house quickly 😀

Thanks so much Linda 😀 The primer I choose I couldn’t use in a spray gun so I had to brush and roll for the primer and then thought I should just continue using a brush and roller to show people they can definitely DIY it without needing any tools. 👍

I totally agree the window casing needs to be painted white so it blends in because right now that totally outdated orange colored oak is just popping out at you drawing your attention away from the clean, bright, beautiful, neutral update. Since your in- laws are selling, maybe you can talk them into letting you paint it. It will make a huge difference! You did a beautiful job both painted and explaining the process as you went along. I was also impressed that you painted inside of cabinets because alot of people don't. I guess they figure nobody can see it so why bother but it does make a difference. Each time you go into your cabinets it's such a good feeling that they are as clean & bright as the outside.

Jade, I am impressed! I am not a fan of painted cabinets, and I would NEVER attempt to paint a countertop! HOWEVER, your goal was maintain a $500 budget and prep for resell. I can't believe the transformation! This is incredible! I wish there was a tight close in shot of the surface of the tiles and countertop just to prove that it really looks professional and not a weekend warrior DIY job. Again, stunning transformation and a homerun!

Due to the nature of using rollers and brushes its literally impossible to not have the texture finish vs smooth. But it's a lot better than the previous look! (This is why I haven't attempted to paint my outdated oak cabinets- I want a sprayed finish)

Looks good, personally I would have painted the window trim to match the cabinets and put brushed nickel hardware but hey to each their own. It came out looking like a new kitchen.

It is always best to use delicate surface tape overlayed with painters tape to prep, already freshly painted, area to be caulked. This will give a crisp sharp edge. Excellent color palette and hardware choice. I am thinking, though, what about behind the stove. 😂 Overall nice result.

You did an excellent job. I do, however, wish you had painted the window frame and sill. Just WOW! One of the best renovations for very little money that I have ever seen.

What an amazing transformation. You should be really proud of yourself. It was clearly a lot of work but just shows what can be achieved. Think of the landfill space you have not taken up by reusing the kitchen. I learnt so much from this. I guess the same could be achieved if the kitchen cabinets are laminate and not wood just by using the same product you did the benchtops with. Thanks so much from a fellow Aussie 🌷

This is such an inspiring video. I desperately need to do something to my kitchen. It’s so small I don’t even have a silverware drawer. I put a dresser in the middle of the floor to put silverware pots and pans in bc there’s such lack of storage for anything. My landlord said I could do anything I want to make it mine. You did such a fabulous job.

Nice job. A lot of tile stores have giant slabs of stone (quartz, marble, granite) called remnants. Remnants are way less expensive than what’s in the show room. The store will come out measure, cut and fit the stone to your kitchen needs. I’d probably update the kitchen in stages. I liked the honey colored cabinets.

That looks fantastic, and for only $500.00!! It looks like a new kitchen. Most people would just slap some paint on especially since they are selling. The new owners are very lucky they're buying from you. You need to set out some before and after pictures for potential buyers to see. That should raise the listing price by $10,000.00!!
