Let's face it. Red Alert knew _exactly_ what he was doin'. He was just going through a paranoid spell which is why he wasn't driving with his lights on.
To be fair, the existence of Cybertronians are public knowledge in G1's universe. Both Autobots and Decepticons. If news of two alien factions at war with each other were on earth, and that they can be anywhere, pretending to be cars, boats, planes, cassette players, EVERYONE would know about it. It's like trying to find someone who doesn't know about Covid-19 today. Nearly impossible.
red alert : drives without headlights and almost hits kids then tells them to ride safely bumblebee: tells someone not to run away from home and then runs away from home in the comics these two should listen to their own advice
Let's all take a moment to realize that the "Don't run away from home!" PSA was brought to us by the Autobot who ran away from home in both Marvel and Dreamwave continuity (but not Sunbow's, so technically 'Bee isn't being hypocritical here).
As I've said elsewhere, even the most jaded Seanbaby would take notice of a workplace safety PSA hosted by Dr Harrison Welles from the first season of the Flash series. 🙂
True, but the only reason they did this back in the 80's and 90's with some cartoons were mainly so parents will not complain about them due to the fact that in the era, cartoons like G.I. Joe and He-Man had successful toylines tied to them, therefore, they could be accused of serving as thirty-minute toy commercials. Nowadays, we don't see these due to networks no longer showing cartoons, unless it's on PBS or some cable channel aimed at preschoolers, as most action cartoons and comedy cartoons are now on streaming services and cable channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. But I agree, we need them back.
Kid: "I'm running away from home... My parents are mean..." Bumblebee: "More like you're showing them how mean you can... Hey, are you okay, kid? How'd you get the black eye?" Kid: "My mom got drunk again... She brought over Uncle Carl for the night and I asked too many questions..." Bumblebee: "Ummmm..." Kid: "This is the third time this has happened... can you help me?" Bumblebee: "Uh, Prime? Is this in the script?"
Well, it is effective, especially if means saving time and money that would otherwise be spent getting the writers to write new scripts (in fact, Filmation also did this practice with Bravestarr, as that show recycled scripts for the morals from He-Man and She-Ra).
That's because the Transformers PSAs never aired on tv so they just reused them word for word minus swapping out characters. The Transformers ones were shown as bonus features on DVD years later. That's why "Knowing is half the battle" is known as a GI Joe phrase, that's the one that everyone saw on tv.
*List of Autobot PSAs:* (0:00) *Bumblebee:* Running away leads nowhere and talk to your parents about how you feel. (0:32) *Tracks:* Stealing is wrong. Especially car-jacking. (1:04) *Red Alert:* Always add Reflectors to your bicycle and wear bright clothes at night. (Don't forget to wear protective guards and a helmet.) (1:37) *Seaspray:* Always wear a Life Jacket when on a boat. (2:09) *Paraglide:* Don't jump to conclusions, don't be judgy, and respect gender equality.
Also, that background music NOT based on the theme was used interchangeably between GI Joe and Transformers, and also the short-lived Robotics. In fact, one episode of GI Joe even began with a barbecue where, on a stereo, they were playing that music that Blaster (or sometimes Jazz) plays in Transformers!. But these PSAs never made it to the actual show, and only these five were made. Maybe they were worried people would say "it's too much like GI Joe" or something. But those two shows did also reference each other (a couple of characters from Jem and the Holograms made a cameo in one of the season 2 episodes of Transformers, also) Also, because the Transformers movie came out, and there was that backlash to a certain plot point....Duke got to live to the end of the GI Joe movie (originally he was going to be done in by a snake)
It’s some of these PSA’s “And Knowing is Half the Battle” are From G.I. Joe Imagine an Cross over in Animation when G.I. Joe teams up with Optimus Prime & his Autobot’s & Cobra Commander teams up with Megatron & his Decepticon’s.
I wonder if kids stole cars, ranway from home, stopped girls from skating, jumping into water or rode bikes during the night to try and see if the Transformers would appear
it's ironic that they got the most sexist autobot (powerglide) to show up in a PSA denouncing sexism Guess those flights with Astoria had some karma attached to them :P
G.I. Joe might not have been the only 80s cartoon to do the whole "Now we know. And knowing is half the battle." gig, but they sure did it better, because more people remember that quotation from them than from The Transformers.
@@cylasbreakdown6140 And "Jem and the Holograms" had nearly identical PSAs made as well that DID make it to air, but they appropriately replaced "Knowing is half the battle" with "Doing the right thing makes you a superstar."
Of course, "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" were both based on Hasbro toy lines and produced by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Entertainment, hence the PSAs being nearly identical.
I don’t know if I have too much hope in humanity, but I would have thought that kids in the ‘80s, just a few decades ago, wouldn’t need a PSA of freaking Powerglide telling them not to be blatant sexists. Maybe in the ‘50s, but that recent?
Looking at comments. So easy to be snarky now. At least there was an effort back then to teach children something despite parents saying cartoons were rotting our brains.
😳DAAAAAAAAAMN. I've never seen these before om 📺, & I've seen ALL the episodes of The Original Transformers cartoon. I know these are so "G I Joe" PSA'S & I've seen ALL of those too 😭RIP Marvel/Sunbow Productions, a worthy Collaboration of it's time & can never be replaced.
I didn't know about thes 'til the most recent Saturday; archival purposes: Saturday, May 18th, 2024, when I saw the in-theaters 40th anniversary event. At the very end, we were treated to the psa where Bumblebee convinced thar kid not to run away. Before then, I thought it was only G.I. Joe that did these PSA-skits, nuce to know that the Transformers ones also ended with "Now I know!", "And knowing is half the battle!" BTW, who else saw the event and did they enjoy it?
The first PSA was kinda bizarre. It starts off raining and gloomy when the kid announces he's running away, then when Bumblebee puts his hand on the kid's shoulder and gives him the advice he needs, the rain stops, the sky turns blue, and the birds start singing. Is it me or is Bumblebee here Autobot Jesus? LOL
You know some cartoons these days do give out good advice, people should actually listen to them, that’s why the world sometimes sucks. People think they can do whatever they want and not have to suffer the consequences of their actions. I mean there’s poaching of endangered animals, if it were up to me I let those poachers get their asses beaten by the endangered animal whom they killed have it’s relatives get some payback. And sexism and racism should be an outdated ideal. No one’s better regardless or sex, culture or religion or status in life from high Society to homeless. And when people tex and drive will lead to accidents and death. And wearing a life preserver that’s just good common sense.
This makes me wish that the humans in the Transformers Movies were smart as the humans in the 80s-90s shows. But alas, everyone has to be a scurred, dumb NPC in modern film/media. Especially in horror movies, like what the hell are you doing, man? Run from the killer, don't just stand there and shit yourself! I swear, human side characters in 80s and 90s shows could memorize the entire Pythagorean Theorem more than a modern film/show humans can know what 15 x 20 even is. But at least the MCU cast (who are humans) are more useful, so that gives me more hope
It’s funny . I don’t think Optimus Prime ever did any of this PSA message’s. And he sort of was the main character you would expect to do that since he sort of was like everyone’s role model .
The unaired Transformer copycat G I Joe PSA's, ironic as one of them is about stealing. Yes Sunbow and Marvel would have been stealing from themselves and if they did that by airing these PSA's on TV, they wouldn't have done the right thing and become superstars, LOL.
Most likely because you wouldn't have seen them in the 80's. They were supposed to be aired after the last 5 episodes of Season 2, but for whatever reason they weren't and we only have them today because they were included as extras on several DVD releases.
How come these psas were never seen in the cartoon? And whats up with seasprays voice? As a kid i never saw these psas in the show. I would see gi joe psas all the time! How does this even exist if it was never shown in the cartoon?
it's the same studio that did GI JOE and Marvel/Sunbow was told to have these things at the end of each episode. Filmation also did it on all their shows as well
Red Alert has a history of acute paranoia. Those paranoid spells cause him to do things like turn off his sensors out of fear someone might have tapped into them and are listening in.
