Well Alice is different due to her being a pretender, a special kind of transformer which is able to take on a biological appearence. It's an actual idea and concept that goes all the way back to generation 1
The one where Don Rikles is this awesome Ventriloquist and then it turns out he actually has his siamese twin attached to his hand. That Twist, has stayed with me all my life.
You can't have a Transformers movie without human characters. Here's what I would've done, though: I would've scrapped Sam Witwicky and everyone connected to him altogether, made Lennox, Epps & the rest of their team the main human characters (because they're far more worthy), developed their relationship with the Autobots and their team effort to stop the Decepticons' plans. The key thing is to give equal screen time to both the humans and the Transformers and develop all of them as characters.
While I never want to defend Bay... In fact I usually want to punch him in the face, but there was a line of Transformers Toys that came out in the Generation 1 line called Pretenders that could disguise themselves as organic beings. However... only the AUTOBOT PRETENDERS could change into humans, the DECEPTICON PRETENDERS all changed into animalistic monsters. So while there were Transformers that could change into humans... THEY WERE GOOD GUYS!!! Someone go punch Bay... please?
DeckThe Lols Please read my original response to this video. I already knew about those... my response was about how the pretenders that were human were all Autobots. I just didn't know that there were a few Decepticon pretenders that were human. I own the Jazz and Grimlock pretenders, have since I was a kid. In fact I own nearly every incarnation of Jazz as he is one of my top 5 non-"Beast Era" transformers. Grimlock is my top non-"Beast Era" though I no longer have my original Grimlock as it was accidentally sold back in 1995 during a yard sale by my stepfather alongside the rest of the Dinobots. I used to own all of the Dinobots, but I don't anymore. I have gained a few of the Reissues such as the Animated and War Within Grimlock, as well as the Animated Swoop. Grimlock is generally one of the more expensive Transformers when released and I haven't been able to regularly buy his releases.
Actually no... It was not a literal statement. Though technically I have punched Bay in the face numerous times via a picture on my punching bag. I do not condone actual violence against people, but I do have no problem with people punching effigies of Bay. The mentioning of punching Bay was supposed to not be taken literally. And it has less to do with his movies and more to do with his lack of ability to research.
I love "Animated" mainly because it has THE best Megatron. He was manipulative, cunning, quick-witted, cool-headed, pragmatic, and tough (contrast the "Prime" Megatron who to me seemed more like a straightforward brute with no sense of tactics or cunning).
That and cybertron were the two transformers shows I grew up with. Not being a hardcore transormers fan myself, I wonder what the fanbase's general consensus on armada is.
The saddest part of this is I've actually read plot outlines that was originally suppose to be in this movie but due to the writer strike and bay screwing with the script while there were no good writers around are completely missing! Like whole subplots missing because Bay thought we wanted more of Shia! The plot actually made since at one point! Like the main plot was on Titan(that moon the Decepticons were on) was a transformers cloning factory and that's why there were so many...
I remember ranting to a friend of mine on why this movie sucked. I brought up the point with how Prime could have been revived much earlier in the movie. My friend then said this "It's because they were afraid of Megatron." At that moment I facepalmed my face so hard there was a mark on my face.
When Optimus Prime was killed in Transformers The Movie(1986), I was pissed off and angry. It was an outrage. They didn't even care about the fans. All they cared for was their money. It was a commercial for toys, not a real movie. And the worst part is that they continued the cartoon without Optimus. Without him, it doesn't feel like your watching the Transformers. Optimus Prime is the heart and soul of the Transformers Universe. Give Transformers 2 credit because they brought him back.
I have to say. Nice job picking up on the difference between Beast Wars and normal Transformers. That seriously needed to be brought up about this movie.
Hey ERod, did you know that as an intern filing Raiders of the Lost Ark storyboards, Michael Bay actually thought the movie was going to suck? He only changed his mind after he saw it. And this is the guy Spielberg picked to direct a film about a subject he neither knew or cared anything about prior to doing research.
For the mini tribute to Optimus Prime, I think it would have been much more emotional had you used the music that plays when Mickey dies in Rocky 3, but I guess the music from the Bill Bixby Hulk works too lol
9:16 It's worth to mention that there are this type of transformers called "Pretenders" in franchise (before Beast Era), so technically bringing them early is not a failure.. but you have right about consequences that should result. Bay just use it as a plot device, and it was cheap.
@ 8:38 to be fair if Megatron was resurrected as a pile of Pepsi cans, it would literally be the biggest producer placement Michael Bay has ever put in a movie
(continued)surprisingly well played and actually was true to form... And yeah that could open up a can of worms of jokes, but the movie is heartfelt and deals with a lot of serious issues and a real story. which is why it's never shown anymore on disney channel. you can find it on youtube though, and i highly recommend it. Just have a look if you get a chance, you'll be surprised how good an actor he actually is in that movie. it's why i shake my head at the things he does now. he could be great
MAN that was an amazingly thorough review ERod. I'm a new student at FSU and met you yesterday. That was a very funny review of the movie. Great job! :]
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is 15 years old! This was still my #1 movie of 2009 I know this is universally hated by everyone and is considered a massive step down from the first film There's no denying that there was a writers strike going on, even Michael Bay admitted it was a disaster He and the filmmakers felt the heart was missing big time Yet this still ended up being one of the highest grossing films of 2009 making $832 million worldwide The good; the action and special effects still deliver The animators who did the special effects are to be commended making all kinds of robots whether being super small or giant size I truly love all the new Autobots and Decepticons from Jolt to Arcee to Chromia to Ravage to Devastator to Rampage to Jetfire to Mixmaster to the Doctor to Demolisher The filmmakers do try to go bigger than the original film expanding the mythos even covering the origins of The Fallen from millions of years ago, Tony Todd does wonders voicing the titular villain The score by Steve Jablonsky is still very good Now onto the bad; This movie is 2 and a half hours and most compare it to suffering the same issues as 'Phantom Menace' being it has no real plot There's so many instances of toilet humor and sex jokes it's almost borderline inappropriate for kids Not to mention all the racist stereotypes mainly from voice actor Tom Kenny who plays twins Skids and Mudflap being an uncomfortable throwback to uncomfortable black sidekicks in old film Bay really needed to scale back on the amateurish humor because at times it really is baffling even sophmoric Almost every one of his films makes an appearance plus every line of dialogue leads to a punchline Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson are reduced significantly Perhaps the biggest issue with this film is that it doesn't know what tone to take Bay does deliver the action and explosions but that only goes so far for a lot of script issues Even Megan Fox admitted she hated being in the desert for a majority of the shoot 'Revenge of the Fallen' is a prime example of Hollywood having a lot of money to where it is indulgent, bloated to the point where it is stupid At least it lead to several more movies not killing the franchise entirely
Fair enough, not everything is for everyone, though I have to admit that Animated!Megatron is one of my favorite versions, as he is charismatic or intimidating depending on his needs, cunning, and can easily kick nearly anybot's tailpipe with ease in a straight fight
I watched 1/3 of the first movie and thats when I said "No" and then I walked away vowing to never lay eyes on the sequel if it was ever foolishly produced!! Loved the review dude!
Well, he was really pissed as a G.I. Joe fan, and he went very in depth as to why it sucked and defended G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which he enjoyed. I highly recommend you check out those videos, I've posted them on your Facebook page. It's a really great review.
What do you think of the Fallen being voiced by Tony Todd and Megatron being voiced by Hugo Weaving? PS: Should I check out Candyman if I'm a horror fan?
Honestly the transformers films aren’t all that bad, their just... boring for my taste. Bumblebee being the obvious exception of course, it was fantastic!
@ERod2010 Thanks. There's one more song which I'd want to know, I just heard it now, the one at 10:20. Could you tell me the name to that one also, please?
Optimus Prime is my number one. Not only is he my favorite character from the Transformers, but he's my second favorite character of all time right behind Sonic the Hedgehog.
Although I must clarify I still strongly dislike this movie... I actually liked the idea of a Transformer who could adapt itself to take a human form. It would help then be more stealthy( As a car that can move on its own would... Still be a bit conspicious looking now, wouldnt it? ), and it was probably the only thing on that movie that passed for a "plot twist". Now, I can admit some people find it to be too big of a strech from the stabilished mythos, but it just didnt bothered me that much. PS: As for why the hell not-All-Transformers do that: ... I dont know if you noticed it, but that one is a lot smaller and more fragile then your "average" transformer. Maybe your run-of-the-mill Transformer is just too big to adopt a disguise like that, and as such, they need to be designed with the specific purpose of assuming a human form to be able to do so.
There was actually a "transformers that could disguise themselves as humans" toyline in the late 80s when they'd really started scraping the bottom of the gimmick barrel. They were called Pretenders and basically it was just a hollow action figure that splits in half and clips over a normal transformers toy. From what i remember they didn't actually compress down to human size so they were fairly useless, odd considering most transformers don't care about scale. The Decepticon pretenders were all based on stuff like Gargoyles and Litch Samurai, which i guess is cool although about as useful. If i remember correctly one of them in the comics got a job in hollywood. Then there's beast wars where they had smaller transformers grafting flesh to themselves terminator style so they could transform into animals and protect themselves from radiation, that's probably closest to what you were describing.
to me, Transformers Animated and Prime are one of the BEST series to date, Animated is lighter than Prime because it follows a story of a younger Optimus who faces challanges to be the hero that he wants to be.
There's a simple reason no-one seems too bothered when Optimus goes offline. We know he get's revived later. We don't even need knowledge of the films to get this. After the reaction his death in the cartoon movie, execs know better than to kill off (for good) such a beloved character. Transformers Prime seems to be changing this to *SPOILER ALERT* Optimus losing his memories and going with the Decepticons thinking they're his allies.
Also, Bay said he will make the thrid the best, better be, and I hope unicro is going to be the main villian in the movie instead of a few minutes of screen time. Also the fallen looks silly instead of what he looks like in the comics.
I'll have to talk about Ninja Turtles no matter what happens. The Rider will be busted before the year is over, that I promise you. And we are already making plans for Resident Evil5 for next year.
Weird enough for me; when I went to see this in theaters I didn't realize what was happening. Mostly because I was with friends and being in the company of others make painful moments more tolerable. It was only after I stared reading the reviews did I realize I was "visual-ed raped" without knowing it.
@ghede13 You mean they reserved an explanation that would have taken one line of dialogue for a comic that only a hand-full of people read.... THAT'S BRILLIANT!!!!
BTW, I really didn't get why the yellow Transformer couldn't talk in Revenge of the Fallen when he clearly got his voice back at the end ofthe first one. That annoys me.
Yeah, I know what you mean. For a show to take place on a playground and then have the movie involve a save the world scheme , it's a pretty big leap. Oh well. At least it had James Woods.
I cannot stand this movie like you got Tony “candyman and venom” Todd to voice the fallen and he does little to nothing in the movie instead we get toilet humour, racists robots, and Shia leboufe screaming
@ERod2010 actually its a small animated videos where they make how a movie should have ended such as Terminator, 2012, Transformers 2, Toy Story, Scream, Lord of the Rings, etc.
Erod I'm a fan of yours, but I am also a Transformers Fanatic, and yes these movies are supposed to be based on Generation One, well in the late years of Generation One, like after the cartoon series had run it's course, they introduced Pretenders, which were Transformers that could use an organic shell as a disguise, and when they were making this film Micheal Bay did announce that the film would feature a Pretenders, so Transformers can have an organic mode.
