Transformers | Commander Clash S13 E19 

So the real life reason some transformers turn into cars and others into cassette players is because the toys came before the show and they were imported from two different Japanese toy lines. One was called Diaclone which was kinda transformers meets Gundam and the other one was Microchange which was real functioning electronics that turned into robots.

Crim's "Can you make the noise" when Seth put the counters from The Ozolith to Blaster was the funniest moment in recent memory. That had me dying.

loved this episode, between the balanced power levels between the commanders, to Seth's ignorance on the topic was a great feel. Would definitely watch part 2 if there's enough interest

Hearing Crim say that "Soundwave is kinda popular" is hilarious because he regularly tops all popularity polls and in fact was essentially rebuilt with a black paint job due to his toy sales still being insane years after his initial release

In 1984, the first year of Transformers toys and the first year of the original Transformers TV show, the Decepticons only had a few characters that were made into toys: Megatron (who transformed into a realistic-looking pistol that can't be produced anymore), three identical but differently-colored jets (Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp), and Soundwave (a cassette player). Along with Soundwave, several miniature characters were released that transformed into tapes that could fit into Soundwave. Soundwave and his tapes were a huge part of the early show, were basically the only competent Decepticons, and became pretty popular. In 1985, Blaster was released as a response to the popularity of Soundwave. Basically the same thing, but a 'good guy' version. He shows up in season two of the show for a handful of episodes as well as the original animated movie and third season of the show, but was definitely never as popular or as important to the show as Soundwave was. The 1986 Transformers movie (where a bunch of Crim's references come from) famously tried to sell the upcoming third year of toys by killing off most of the original characters and introducing a lot of replacements. This did not go over well. Soundwave was the only main Decepticon from the original 1984 line who survived the movie to continue into Season 3 of the show. Cyclonus was created during the movie, resurrected from the body of Skywarp. He's a support character in the second half of the movie and the third season of the cartoon. Slicer didn't exist in any of the original cartoons or movies. He appeared as a toy in 1991 many years after the original cartoon had ended and before any of the reboots started. While a fun card here, he is basically an insignificant character compared to the others.

I would really like to see another Transformers episode! It was fun seeing pretty theme-centric decks roll around at each other.

I'm more surprised the Transformers cards made it onto MTGO in the first place considering how many other cards they've entirely neglected to add from the commander sets

Blaster and Soundwave are essentially the same, the difference is who they fight for. They both eject Minicon cassettes that transfom into different things.

As it came up again in game, Transformers "convert" because using transform risks genericizing the term, which would likely cost Hasbro their trademark on the name Transformers. The toys, movies, shows, and other products follow the same approach of using other words (e.g., convert, "roll out," etc.)

Transformers(Xfmrs) raise (step up) or lower (step down) Alternating Current (AC) voltage. Wattage is the product of voltage and current, which is based on the power consumption of the load, and is maintained through out. So in a step up xfmr current is therefore lowered when the load remains constant and vice versa. Converters change AC into Direct Current (DC) sometimes there is a value shift as well depending on the type of converter used but in all of them the purpose remains the same. So converters, and Xfmrs have very different functions even through the words sound similar. Just figured I would clear up some things from the few seconds of dialogue out of the whole episode. Also for what its worth Choppers are the DC equivalent of Xfmrs, with Boost and Buck replacing Step up and Step down in the naming convention, and Inverters for the reverse function of Converters, that is changing DC to AC. But the actual reason they used the name is I believe more based off of the instructions for the original toys using the word convert, as well as the word Transform already being used.

You guys are a little young for the target demo for Transformers, but this was fun. I'm 36 and OG transformers were a little old for me. My cousins who are now roughly 38-42 loved that stuff.

Great game and very fun to watch! To your guys' last note about "how would these stack against popular commanders" I think that in my personal opinion, removal is the "great leveler" when it comes to power in commander. Consider also that sometimes you start with a good hand (and sometimes you don't) then you can have games like one I had recently where my Cyclonus "upkeep tribal" deck won against a Kaalia doing Kaalia things.

they can easily do a whole transformers set, im hoping for a transformers set printed at commander legends 1 or MH2 power level, atleast another set of mechanically unique commanders with hotrod, grimlock and galvitron in it

I watched this show when I was i kid and im so glad magic decided to do these transformers and art rather than any other iteration!highlight of my year and im so glad the crew decided to play them as commanders!

I have the 25th anniversary Soundwave with the transformable cassettes for Lazerbeak and Ravage and I was thinking about making the Soundwave deck but used the actual toys instead of tokens, they're just a little smaller than a magic card

I’ve built nearly ever Transformer EDH deck, and I’m shocked to hear that anyone thinks they aren’t strong. They have all way overperformed (Optimus in particular), and have all been fun!

And this game is a good example of why Richard's take that single target removal isn't good, is incorrect.

Couldn't have Grim just blocked the attack from Seth with his Priest to prevent being on board dead to the Urza Saga/Commanders Plate attack? I'm not sure but feels like Grim could have survived it if he would have been willing to chump-block earlier, just as Phil did.

So with living metal it's a creature on the stack? Or just in play while it's your turn?

I would really like to the a Blaster "Dance" Deck!!! ;) Either cards with "dance" in the name (Yes, you can be janky and count something like Abun'dance' :D Or cards, where people, monster or items? are dancing in the art. And cards with relation to shoes!! So Blaster can turn on the music and everybody has a great party ;)

They could make a transformers game within magic with their own multiverse. No shit there is a multiverse, and what gives the machines life is a spark, and an evil dragon changed the way the spark is given out, so a select few set out on a journey on a ship because of a machinma genocide. Beastwars was a cool cgi cartoon at the time but didnt age well imo. Id love to see a synergy human commander for all these bots: Spike Whitwicky. If they wanted to section off a whole space/future/scifi section of magic, the transformers are the perfect place to start. I hate to see it in a high fantasy sorcery, swords+boards, dragons world, but theyre just cards. A scifi spinoff of magic would be cool, and I cant say a lot of people are into the current transformers ccg. I had a great laugh and enjoyed the game. Vehicles you cant crew, art they cropped from g1, you know where im going with this: "YOU GOT THE TOUCH!"

Techically they made the blackbird (plane from x-men) into a transformer in a toy as well the echo-1 from ghostbusters. Actually slicer is mercenary... so u have 2 decepticons, 1 autobot, and 1 mercenary.

Reading the card explains the card! Slicer only has the 'can't be sacrificed' clause after the trigger resolves. You can make Tomer sac it in response to the trigger or at any point during his own turn. I love the crew but if y'all don't care about the game enough to even fully read your own cards much less your opponents it really dampens a lot of the fun.

At very least in the original series, Goldbug _is_ Bumblebee after an upgrade. They likely used Goldbug instead because of the shattered glass variants.

This was a pretty fun game of fair commander. It's a little sad that Crim got knocked out early, but I think that's what will happen if most of the players are not going for a combo finish. The transformers were neat, but they do have too much text on them. I think Seth's soundwave is supposed to be played on it's back-side instead of as a 5 mana 3/3. I think the intent is you do something like: turn 2: hangerback walker turn 3: Soundwave converted turn 4: move 3 counters onto hangerback, flipping Soundwave. later: hangerback dies, makes a bunch of 2/2 thopters.

Crim legit out here telling on himself with that Beasties comment. Just like me telling on myself for calling it out.

Honestly, ignoring the flavor, the cards themselves are pretty good. They are all little mini-games with interesting concepts, and they encourage attacking. As cards, they seem to play well.

Hope to see other transformers get used in future especially ultra Magnus seme like awesome artifact creature commander. I'm very surprised that the dinobots,the predacons or even the giant robots like omega supreme, metroplex and combiners didn't get made too since they r very popular
