Glad you're positive about this trailer. Many people complain about it feeling too childish or silly, but it surely will get more serious towards the end if you paying attention to the details in the trailer. Besides, that's just their marketing strategy towards younger audiences.
As for connection to other movies or not... it´s sketchy. Producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura wants it to be a prequel to all the other Live Action films, which is a terrible idea. Most fans want this to be either a stand alone, or the first of a trilogy. And the director seems to agree with the trilogy idea.
