You got it backwards, my man. "Jetfire" was the original name, and they couldn't use it on the cartoon, so they had to use "Skyfire" as a substitute name. But now they have full rights to the name and are able to use it instead of the substitute name.

His name has always been originally Jetfire but since Hasbro use the same figure as a Valkrie they got sued by a company named harmony gold back in the 80s therefore they had to change the cartoon appearance and name for the original G1Series. If you go on the Internet and watch the original content for fire in the sky they use the name Jetfire for the original take And then they had to go back after the legal situation and name him Skyfire. Apparently some legal issues have been taken care of throughout the years because they gave him back the original name as Jetfire for every other incarnation of the character even up to the current toy that we’re talking about here.

never thought id see the day when a proper g1 acurate skyfire would be made and by hasbro themselves. i wasnt too thrilled with the thrilling 30 skyfire or any 3rd partys but this figure is everything i could want and more. it checks every box. im beyond amazed. this pretty much is a masterpiece.

This is the Jetfire we should have got in the 80s, instead of that thing that isn't even Jetfire. I remember opening him as a kid and wondering why he was the only one who looked nothing like the Skyfire in the cartoon.

Just got mine it's great! Take note that Jetfire's second head is actually in his secondary chest piece, you'll need to pop it out. Small circle in the top right push into with a rod.

Generations Jetfire still looks ace, but Siege is really killing it - it's probably the best mainline Transformers series to date. Hope Transformers Siege is around for a long time to come.

"Skyfire was always massive." This says it all. Good luck preaching this to the peeps that think that this figure is better suited to MP scale than CHUG. I mean, Skyfire/Jetfire was like *THE BIGGEST* Autobot in season one (before Omega Supreme came along in season two), and definitely much larger than the Dinobots (who were already a little bit bigger than Optimus and the other Autobots)!! This figure...I can't wait to get him...assuming that the distribution is any good, which it hasn't been for nearly a decade now.

The figure is even better than I thought it'd be, thank you so much for this early review! Didn't think they'd manage to squeeze any waist articulation in there, super happy in can swivel at all. Also like the size comparison with MP-10, it works pretty well if one happens to go for more of a Marvel G1 style of scale, where Jetfire wasn't towering above everyone else as much.

I really like how they nailed the alternate mode and the robot mode of “Skyfire” then on top of that, they included a couple pieces of you really dig the look of the “Jetfire” toy, imo the og toy looked a little out of place compared to the other more boxy G1 characters, this is a perfect homage to that character.

This is an AMAZING recreation of the original cartoon look for Sky/Jetfire! However, I gotta say that the original cartoon version of Skyfire did not really resemble the Macross toy that was its basis (thanks, Harmony Gold D:) So, that whole gun splitting in half thing has nothing to do with Macross, since the Veritech guns didn't do that, and the original transformation of the Macross jets was very different from how this toy does it. Take a look at the amazing Veritech/Valkyrie transforming jets that Yamato has put out in Japan...(they cost a ton to import, but I'd say it's worth it. I've got four of them sitting on my desk here right now!)

Check Chris McFeely's video on Jetfire. To summit it up, Hasbro tried to include Jetfire into the cartoon, but because it was imported by Takara in Japan (and the toy was Bandai's property), they redesigned him and named him Skyfire. Since the Classics toy, he remained Jetfire ever since (even after one lawsuit from f***ing Harmony Gold).

I literally watched the episode where Skyfire/Jetfire shows up yesterday, and this figure is just way too big for the Siege line. He was big in the cartoon, but not this big. If you look up pictures of him from the original show, Optimus' head should come up to the middle of his stomach. The Siege Optimus and Starscream are dwarfed by this thing. Honestly, the Masterpiece Optimus scales much better. Interesting that Hasbro would make this thing so huge when up to this point, the Siege line has been so accurately scaled.

The Phoenix is lacking panel lines and details like this! Granted it has the cartoon look, it still looks unfinished compared to Siege.

Phoenix was made to scale and fit with the G1 MP aesthetic. If you compare it to screenshots, you will see that it looks like it stepped right out of the cartoon with no sacrifice to either mode or proportions. It really is remarkable. I actually see a lot of simarities between the two designs which leads me beleive that the Seige designers were big fans of the Phoenix version. Of course, the Seige version is cheaper, more detailed and sized to fit the Seige aesthetic, and he is made to be played with. Such an unexpectedly great figure. I'm totally psyched for Omega Supreme, now.

In my mind skyfire is his decepticon name and the macross look goes with the name as in that’s the decepticon look but once he changes alliegences he removes his armor and renames him self Jetfire
