From the looks of it ss86 Optimus is amazing. Would have been nice if he also kept the leg wheel kibble. If Takara Tomy Masterpiece does another Optimus toy, he had better get the best of every Optimus before it, including the leg wheel kibble.
@@thaddaeuswong3574 interesting to hear I didn't know people liked seeing the wheels on the legs. If they did it in G1, why not we like it then and it brings back memories
If the Headquarters set was released a few months ago....I think a lot of people would have had that one. There is no way I will by ER version of Prime again.
It's a shame they waited so long. if you need a modern G1 Prime stand in, I think the Headquarters set will go on sale immediately no one is going to buy that set now.
There are USA laws in place that prevents hasbro from doing gun Megatron that's why we haven't got gun megatron in a long time even selling the original G1 megatron could get you in trouble .
@@thecasualknight2647 Umm ya preaching to the choir...we all know that, but who knows. If they stick SS'86 on it and it's a tank...my review will be scathing
i think a way hasbro could possibly get around the whole gun thing with megatron is having it be an “unofficial” alt mode that isn’t shown on the box or instructions. All of the parts would be there for transformation and if possible they could probably give megatron a “base mode” as a bluff alt mode that they actually would put on the box and instructions. kinda like how people had the unofficial gun mode for SS BM megatron🤷🏾♂️
I've been mulling over how they'd do Megatron, and I thought of a safe compromise they could do. The alt mode would be a tank (but a different model than the ER mold), the robot mode would be G1-accurate (like how they worked on Concept Megatron with robot first, then vehicle), and he could come packaged with a modified version of the blaster accessory in the recent Target Multipack. They would just need to use black plastic sprues, some silver paint, and additional pieces to clip on. This would allow collectors to recreate scenes from G1 or the 1986 film where characters team up with Megatron for shooting things.
@@BushBabyL nah it has to be a gun. My take on it is so a decent leader Megatron but if you're going to call him a tank ...don't call him SS'86. Just say Legacy United or whatever other line will be a available at 2025.
I Agree With You Man, I'm Hype and Excited For This Figure, I'm Waiting For Studio Series 86 Leader Class Megatron, and It Will Complete The G1 Leaders and Rivals in 40 Years.
Spot on about the SS Ultra Magnus. Cost me about 150+ after taxes on Amazon CA last December when he shipped. To get him now it's about $230 so expect about the same after the 86 Prime preorder drops and sells out. Only want, and can afford one in my collection. ER I think is a fine substitute for a casual/budgeted collector but even if I had him in hand I'd want 86 alongside because outside of MP I honestly can't see Hasbro doing much better than this anytime soon. That and this frees up the opportunity for a different iteration of Optimus in the Commander Class. Energon for instance deserves an update as the design is interesting however the original toy didn't really have the budget to make it properly work.
I think, right now, I'll be waiting for someone trying to get rid of their Dramatic Capture Optimus on his own. Maybe a bad take but I honestly really love the Dramatic Capture Optimus. I don't really care abt a trailer, and I love the cartoon colours on the Earthrise mold. I missed Earthrise completely as I'm just getting into Transformers, so I wouldn't necessarily want to pay the full Commander price for what would be like my second or third figure.
Looks absolutely fantastic. Love the more accurate proportions and how clean the bot mode and the truck mode are. It’s the chunkier Optimus I wish the other figures were. Hope they make the wise decision to keep this 86 prime in stock and give it multiple reissues and repaints as long as possible. They have peaked with Optimus now. Hope the people who make upgrade kits make battle damaged parts you can swap in. Probably will save up for this guy. For whenever it a gets a preorder date. I’m gushing over this design.
Nice to finally get a really good G1 Optimus Prime in the main line. The Kingdom one was so skinny and lanky. He looked feeble compared to Rodimus Prime and Armada Prime.
I like the new mold, but I still prefer the toy-aesthetic paint job over the animated accurate-aesthetic color scheme. His thighs and waist/hips don't necessarily have to be chrome electroplated, but along with a darker blue and golden eyes, a nice shiny Marvel Legends SilverSurfer-esque silver paint would do for me.
Earthrise Optimus's trailer was every bit an afterthought as SS44 DotM Jetwing Optimus's trailer. It's why I refused to get it or the Kingdom repack. (Though I got the figure mold via the Netflix WFC-T version) SS86 Optimus: truck mode looks like there's simiar panels to Ultra Magnus on the sides of the cab and the area for the grille. This is no doubt THE definitive G1 animation accurate Optimus Prime for mainline, and it's annoyingly the *ONLY* way to get a trailer to go with the upcoming Legacy United G1 (toy) Optimus, who'll be the definitive G1 toy Optimus Prime for mainline (and like 1/4-1/3 of the price of Missinglink Convoy).
I can't believe that hasbro was able to out do the earthrise optimus prime wow im blown TF away ! I can't wait to get this version he looks like he jumped off the tv screen
Earthrise Prime is in my opinion one of the most overhyped figures ever. The kibble is wierd, quality is bad, etc. but the reason people like it is because it was the only decent G1 CHUG Prime out at the time, and now that we see the SS 86 version, this proves it. I dropped my ER Prime, and I will undoubtedly pre order the 86 version.
Agreed. If you want this SS86 Optimus Prime, get it now. I got lucky in October 2023 and got SS86 Ultra Magnus on sale at Amazon for $75. Never saw a deal again like that after it sold out.
I'm excited for the Optimus robot/cab, but the trailer/headquarters is a bit of a disappointment. But that's ok, I always use the Optimus trailers as shelf risers. p.s. I still LOVE my Earthrise Optimus and always will.
I agree with you. There’s no way people are getting this on sale. If anything I’m sure he’ll sellout quite a few times then they’ll go dark like they doing with Magnus right now and release a 2nd run next year. Not to mention the repaints (which let’s be real WILL happen) I’m a diehard prime guy so I’m buying them all. Transformers one prime, the G1 style deluxe , hopefully the friendship pack one and like 3 86’s prime. Also got on preorder power master prime; the head quarters one and 2 Haslab omega primes waiting.
The figure itself is all I care about I don’t display in vehicle mode. Yes the figure does look a little better that earthrise/Netflix Prime. Which I bought Netflix because the trailer doesn’t matter to me. If we get this figure released without the trailer it’ll be a definite buy, but $100 is a huge pass, well if the figure has the bulk of Reactive Optimus I might still get it.
I doubt we will get just the cab...at least for the next few years. This is it and unless some wrist of fate causes this figure to be a dud, I would put my money on this. SS'86 Ultra Magnus price has gone up double so I expect the same with this. I would not pass this one by
I can't believe it's even an issue that they released a new Prime. 😂 only things that are certain in this life is death, taxes, and new Optimus Prime release. And if you already own the one you love, then good for you! One less Prime you gotta buy! 🙌
Now that we have the ss86 Optimus prime, the evolution of the G1 Optimus prime in CHUG scale is complete. First, the old G1 Optimus prime. Then the missing link Optimus prime. Then earth rise Optimus prime. And now ss86 Optimus prime. No wheels on the body and legs in the robot mode, cartoon and 86 movie accurate.
optimus prime fans are eating good this year. studio series 86, the dramatic capture earthrise repaint, the legacy g1 toy optimus, 2 different hot wheels optimus primes and the TF one prime
The one thing that has me wondering about it is why they don't show the matrix chamber or show him holding the matrix since they gave him articulating hands. It would be something if you had to have the matrix that came with Rodimus Prime.
I’m all in on this as I’m getting 2 1 to keep moc & 1 to open! This is the best 86 prime we probably will ever get! I kind of hear you on trailer but even in the toon it was that boring & this is the toon look not toy !
My standard for commander class is jetfire, and this trailer just doesn’t justify the price for me. This and kingdom rodimus belong in the Leader class price point. Best looking prime so far.
The resin it’s so expensive is because it uses the engineering from mp 44 so it has a high parts count, they also needed extremely hood plastic so those small mp joints wouldn’t break. Had this been a leader it would either be super brittle or have no trailer Edit: forgot to mention this prime is also leader size, not voyager size
The SS86 is based of the Transformers movie 1986, so it would be strange if it did not look closer to what we saw in the cartoon. Both of them is great OP's if you want a more G1 look go for the new one, if you are fine with the Earthrise version which still looks great, stick with that one and save $100+ bux.
Even if this sells out….does anyone really think we will see the last of this mold? There’s probably gonna be a cel shaded version, a direct to store exclusive version like the Walmart Netflix Prime, a new “dead” version that will be more accurate than the Amazon exclusive one, a new Nemesis Prime, etc. plus they might rerelease this exact version in a different packaging later like how Earthrise got released in a new box later in the series.
@@superroboted IMO, this version should have been leader class. I just don’t see what makes it commander class price level. The extras to me do not justify the extra $30+ dollars.
You must have been living under a rock because Earthrise Prime was leader class. So we have a newer, bigger Prime with a larger trailer...same as Kingdom Rodimus/legacy Motormaster = commander class. This is how Hasbro works.
@@superroboted Ah I see now. I do know that Earthrise was leader class but what I didn’t know was that this SS 86 Prime is larger than Earthrise. If he is as big as Rodimus/Motormaster/Ultra Magnus, then I see the price justification. I really thought they just added stuff to the EA version with a new Prime figure. Lol. Ok that makes things easier to swallow. I’m off to preorder.
Considering ultra magnus ss86 his chest pops open for the matrix. Why shouldn't this prime? I'd like to get magnus too but he's still not come back out again. Haven't been able to get ss86 Scourge either.
Do you know how many toy companies make very realistic looking guns?? It's a very weak excuse from Hasbro saying they can't. Just put a damn red tip on Megatron that we can take off. There is no federal law against gun toys...just the red tip law.
@@TheMagicRobotit’s so far the best prime mold of the decade, I have a feeling we’re getting toy colour, comic colour, battle damaged, cell shaded, nemesis, and shattered glass repaints. Hasbros def going to milk this mold dry
@@ThatGuyThingMe I don't usually collect variants so one is enough for me but If somehow a toy deco came out before I could get the SS86 version (wasn't able to preorder😢) I would get that. Roller's color is just a personal preference and not really an issue for me.
Idk bro. I dont see a vast improvement in the figure itself over the ER, and imo, the trailor improvements dont justify the price hike. Im not one to buy the newest version of every version of a character just because somethings the newest release. Is it an improvement? No doubt. But I dont think the ER is a poor representation of the character. For that reason ill save my $90+ bucks this time. Good vid man.
@@TransformersTalkRAW Well nothing will be perfect. The entirety of the figure is far better than ER the legs are much more animation accurate. The robot imo looks the part and based on what I see he is in the same vain as Kingdom Rodimus whose bot mode has way more engineering than most. SS'86 Optimus does that. ER was always inferior I'll say give me Siege Optimus which was/is a better Optimus imo.
@@superroboted I also think siege is better than earthrise, despite earthrise having the modern articulation I just think the overall appearance of the figure could've been done better lol. (I think his legas are too long, small chest windshields, and a stubby looking ion blaster with a peg on the side.
@JRand927 it was a step backward from Siege. Siege hid the wheels and had better engineering. They used the base of a great mold and made odd choices like not painting the full jointa the correct colors...two tone legs, head sculpt was wrong...wheels on the but. Most who loved Siege Optimus saw these backward changes. It sucked. I can't wait for SS86
There's something about the head that doesn't feel quite right. Too wide... or a bit small maybe? Hope it looks different than this when they reveal it officially. You mentioned MP44 and there we can see the perfect head and face sculpt, they just had to copy it. The studio series 86 optimus chest window colors look different in robot mode than shown in the trailer mode. That means they might be better in the final product, hope so. I see different shades of blue. Just hope the head and window colors are better than the ones shown on these leaks. If, at the end, they give me the MP44s similar head sculpt I'd buy even 4 of these.
@@xod_ There are shots that don't match others. For me this is a light at the end of the tunnel meaning that it might be different than shown or I'm just cheating my brain by being optimistic wanting to see things that aren't really there.
@@sixtoreyes93 Well, those official pics always have weird lighting...I'm hoping since this was leaked at the behest of Hasbro they do a real livestream with the figure that way we can see it under natural light...and yes I wanna see how the chest opens or even if it does open too.
Hasbro sometimes makes some good decisions and at the same exact time make terrible decisions. It's like they're working against themselves. Also I had one of the early releases of g1 prime back in the day. He didn't have a rub sticker, he had the skinny version of his gun, and he had metal plates hidden in the sides of his trailer. I assume for the magnet feet of the diaclone micro men. Now as far as kingdom rodimus prime his trailer is solid like a rock. Only thing like don't like is he doesn't go far enough back into his trailer. Earthrise prime was one of the best figures that came out in awhile. His trailer was crap. Also a couple of things that would have made him better is silver paint around his eyes. I painted mine and it made a big difference. And why wouldn't they make the insides of his legs blue like the rest of them? Hasbro makes no sense.
That's because they held out for the headquarters release...that would have almost been the perfect prime. I remember when G1 dropped in '84 a guy at school had a gray roller with the magnetic plates. We had a store that sold Diaclone toys so a few of my friends had the Diaclone version of Prime and one of the seekers. I got Prime in '85 so my roller was blue. However I got G1 Megs in '84 weird ikr. The only other G1 Prime I had was the one with blue windows, 2 guns and the rare action master. I wish I kept that one. As for the ER Prime, I prefer 35th Anniversary Siege Optimus over all of them. I just hope the pics of this new one are because of Hasbro's crappy staging and lighting, but I suspect a livestream will pop up real soon.....
Why, it’s the first time we got a toon accurate sized prime. He was always ment to be around a head or so taller then the seekers, grapple, wreak gar, etc
@@ThatGuyThingMe You’re not wrong about that! I guess thinking about it now made me feel a little ignorant about its size. This figure without a doubt is stunning and I am pre-ordering prime. I just started collecting again and it shocked me when I started collecting legacy, studio series, and some generation selects. The sizes of what the classes are were not hitting for me really but I get why they did that. I’m born in 2004 so I was for the time being a bayformers type of guy and well there figures had girth to it! You’l probably dislike me for liking bayformers but if it was not for the movies I would not have heard of and apreaciethed G1 Transformers and its other shows today! Overall I am loving this prime based on the promo shots!
