Such a great moment. Clearly meant to play on the old troupe of a character smashing something to make a point then showing that there is actually a repercussion from it.
Bulkhead quickly became, and remains to this day, my daughter's favourite Transformer - precisely because he was, at the time of "Animated", brand new. He wasn't one of "Daddy's Autobots" but was new to things, just like she was, and that made him special :-) So the big guy will always have a soft spot in my heart, too. Plus, he's terrific.
I think your daughter will look at him fondly and think he reminds her of her dad! You did great there! Sadly my daughter is into Unicron ever since I showed her the 86' movie. Now she's terrorizing the house!
I think it also helped that we really got to understand Ani Bulkhead in a deeper way than a lot of cartoon "big guy" characters. He seemed to be driven by a desire for acceptance: his attempts to "play nice" with the constructicons, his fear of his art/creations being worthless, and even perhaps a desire to prove himself to Sumdac and others when strongarmed into working on Megatron's space bridge. A really great example of transformers' giant alien robots getting some incredibly human characterization.
“All people want me to do is break stuff. I got a sensitive side too, ya know... ....But breaking stuff is kinda fun.” - Bulkhead, Transformers Animated
Major incarnations: Energon: (Maniacal laughter intensifies) Animated: We'll take the Allspark and PUSH it somewhere else! Prime: We don't call for backup, we call for Cleanup!/ I needed that
Animated did such a great job introducing new characters to the franchise with Bulkhead and Lockdown. Even though Bulkhead wasn’t BRAND new, I still consider his animated incarnation to be the best
@@carbful Everyone in my Elementary school knew who Cheetor was. HELL! I used to own a figure of Trans Metal Cheetor a long time ago. Plus his signature catchphrase: Jumpin' Gyros! is so memorable for me!
Never saw "Energon," but I've heard about heard about that version of Bulkhead for quite some time. The "Animated" and "Prime" incarnations however, I absolutely loved them. I'd describe the former as a top heavy, more intelligent Patrick Star, and the latter as a caring, headstrong jock. I hope this guy appears in another "Transformers" show in the near future.
I never saw Transformers Animated, so Prime was my first exposure to Bulkhead. He was one of my favorite characters from the get go, along with Ratchet and Arcee. Though he's more recent, he's more than deserving of a spot among classic Autobot bruisers like Ironhide and Grimlock.
As an add-on to Energon Bulkhead, his Japanese name was "Sprung", which is Springer's Japanese name. A lot of the more random Energon-era name reuses match up a little better when you look at their non-dub names. Not much better, but at least the designs tend to look right.
That’s part of why Energon is the garbage fire that it is, if you go watch the non-dub version, it’s a lot better, the dub straight up removed stuff from the show’s background and entirely rewrote Mirage
Happyfacecat A lot better is perhaps still too nice. While it is more coherent, Superlink is still pretty much a garbage fire. Micron Legend and Galaxy Force both hold up pretty well though.
at first I wasn't a fan of bulkhead but overtime I was seeing similarities between him and me, big guy seen as the muscle but has a heart of gold and can be clumsy, he quickly became one of my fav bots
If only we could have 2 videos a week. In quarantine Saturday to Saturday seems to take longer and THE BASICS ON is essential viewing. Got to admit to re-watching quite a few older videos this week. Quite simply the best transformers information show on any media
Ahhhh man I love Bulkhead so much, he became one of my new favorites thanks to TFP, and I love his friendship with Miko and Wheeljack, also his animated version is a lovable bot and his relationship with Sari was the cutest thing in the show, so happy to see him receive his own basics video......now WHEN in hell is my best girl Arcee coming? she need a basic asap.
Honestly I feared Animated would've been like Teen Titans Go or Thundercats Roar but THANK GOD it wasn't anything like those scrap heads. It was a well written plot driven story with incredible characters people could fall in love with. Bulkhead was a easy character for me to emphasize with what with having physical traits similar as him. (Really big, clumsy, and the tech specialist on the family). I almost thought you might mention Bayverse Hound looking similar to Bulkhead which I think needed a bit more character. He's in my top twenty bots I love and I hoped Bulkhead and Strongarm would appear in Cyberverse but sadly nothing. So thank you for another great episode, any chance Strongarm might be soon? Keep up the great work.
While I really wasn't a fan of Animated I can't deny there was something good about Bulkhead. Prime really felt like a good evolution of the character. A brawler rather than a klutz but still with a big heart. But Energon Bulkhead at 1:22 never fails to make me laugh. The shooty dance he does is pure gold.
Bulkhead (Animated): Sigh... I need to find SOMETHING that can help express myself without breaking things all the time... (Sits down to think but accidentally broke Ratchets medical tools...) Ratchet (Prime): “Bulkhead! I NEEDED THAT!!!”
That's something that Hasbro has been able to do for a long even if the main series there doing isn't great theres always a character that is well loved in each series unlike a certain other franchise that we shall not mention .
They need to be careful about it though, just shoving in a new character won’t make something better especially if they are not well written or they end up sacrificing older characters to not hog up all the time for a character nobody cares about. That was essentially what “Transformers the movie” (the animated 80s one). They killed off most of the old characters (Including Optimus Prime) to make way with new ones and everyone was upset by it.
Transformers Animated will forever have a special place in my childhood. Transformers Prime was amazing too but that show can get pretty dark at times. Animated brought some incredibly lovable characters and interesting lore. Also, I love how Transformers got their name based on your ability. Ex. Ironhide can turn into a tougher armor or when Starscream literally has a cannon in his mouth.
Mister Bad Guy I can see a lot of those: Barricade, Override, Blackout and others that their G1 versions just aren’t really remembered... (probably because most of them are also Micromasters)
Though I could say that TF Animated Bulkhead does take one design que from Energon Bulkhead; his weapons drone's clawed hands and bulky arms when used as power arms.
I have always loved transformers the toys and the shows. I have never had the chance to read the comics but because of your show chris i can learn even more about my favorite characters, see what thier comic version looks and acts like. So in other words chris. Thank you. You have given me something i never thought possible. Keep up the good work and i wish you the best of luck
Well Animated inspired some parts of Prime eg grumpy old man Ratchet wouldn't exist and in the series finale for a brief moment, the Autobots lined up at the deceased Prowl resembles Team Prime
Energon Bulkhead might be my favourite. His hip-wiggle cannons crack me up every time I see them. I may have rewatched that one second clip at 1:22 about four times before finishing the video. There was a lot I didn't like about Transformers Animated, but I got a soft spot for Bulkhead in that one. Prime's Bulkhead should be my favourite, but those hip guns, man, those hip guns!
Animated Bulkhead is the best character to ever be put in anything with the Transformers name. I'll have no one argue with me. (And by that, I mean feel free to disagree, but you're not gonna change my mind)
For the longest time though I though he was supposed to be another version of Hound. The stars on the shoulders, the front as the chest, it feels too purposeful to be an accidental resemblance. But YES we absolutely do! Everything has been feeling so stale lately, especially with the movie designs, which was the only remaining breath of fresh air, was slapped back to pure G1.
@@NexusProductions-rz1sv This. Everyone complained because they “don’t look like G1.” Yeah, no shit, they’re supposed to look like real life robots made of vehicle parts. Not big blocky cartoons.
@@Gojirawars03 And it's not like the design were even completely original. Ironhide was based on RiD Ironhide (Specifically a black repaint that looks like Trailbreaker), Ratchet was based on Armada Red Alert who was supposed to be Ratchet before name issues occured, Bumblebee being a sports car also come from Armada and the resemblance to Prowl comes from how Beast Wars Cheetor was originally supposed to Prowl but changed when they shifted to a new cast, Jazz is literally Jazz, and I shit you not but every design aspect from Optimus in G1 can be found on his first movie version. Window chest, sides of truck make the arms, back makes the legs, vents in the shins, smoke pipes on the shoulders, it's all there. It's just changed to fit a more realistic depiction of what an ALIEN ROBOT would look like.
I like how Bulkhead's character went from farm boy to seasoned warrior between Animated and Prime's storylines. He basically grew up, eventually having to teach another kid how to do the same.
Intresting viedo on a character whos most popular version isn't the orginal. Fix it would be another intresting one. I really like his rid 15 version. I didn't realise he had a g1 version until later.
I love the big green brawler with a heart of gold! Saw his introduction in animated, and loved him so much I got both toys. His intelligence and willingness to do the right thing was great to watch. Prime Bulkhead struck me more as the awesome doting big brother football lineman who lived to just plant opponents into the turf while caring for the safety of others. His interactions with Miko almost always helped carry the show for me. Honestly, of the three partnered bots, I liked Arcee and Bulkhead with Jack and Miko more than Bee and Raf, simply because I found all four to be better fleshed-out, more dynamic, and better written characters. Wreckers don't call for backup. They call for cleanup!
Bulkhead is one of my favorite Transformers Characters I just love how unique in design he's big, green, and the muscle of the Autobots so kind of like the Transformers Version of the Incredible Hulk in a way although Grimlock might be a contender to that comparison.
I would LOVE a WfC: Earthrise G1-inspired re-imagined Bulkhead figure! I love how they did that with Barricade in Siege and would be super happy if they did the same for Bulkhead, Lockdown and Windblade sprinkled in the current line.
As someone who's almost soley preferred the G1 transformers due to me discovering collections of their original comics in the library, Bulkhead has always stood out to me as a modern new character that I honestly really like. He's always felt like an innovative combination of Hound and Ironhide to me, with a lil bit of Brawn. I dunno, a part of me wishes in an alternate timeline he'd crashed to Earth in the Ark with everyone else
Anybody else remember having a heart attack when it looked like Bulkhead might've been dead after exposure to Tox-En in Transformers Prime, and then we had to wait MONTHS for new episodes to find out whether he died or not??? Good times lol
While his Prime incarnation isn't bad, I did kind of miss the deeper aspect of him being knowledgable of engineering. It kinda made him more than your bogstandard gentle giant trope.
I find it curious how there are some parallels between Bulkhead and Rhinox, both are big and powerful, yet calm and reserved in demeanor, they are the kind that stops to smell the roses, and have a scientific yet mundane and even a bit spiritual outlook on life. Rhinox even had a weapon similar to Bulkhead's, before it was repurposed into his current CHAINGUN OF DOOM.
Bulkhead is definitely one of my favourites of the newer generation of Transformers. It’s just hard not to love the guy. I think he’s someone we can all relate to: Can be reckless and makes mistakes but ultimately has a good and caring heart… or spark I guess 😜. In a way you could almost describe him as being one of the most human souls of the robots in disguise 😁
I love Animated Bulkhead a little more than the Prime Bulkhead but I love both versions of the character. As someone who NEVER watched Energon, I had no idea there even was a Bulkhead before Animated.
Not gonna lie but watching both Prime and Animated are what made Bulkhead my one of my favorite Autobots. I wish I say the same for Energon but nah in that show I liked Prowl and Inferno more in my unpopular opinion since they have the coolest vehicle modes and with sirens.
Honestly they are cooler becuz they can combine and I only watch Energon combination sequences, but this bulky is also funny becuz of the waist blasters
Dude, I only just today realized I've been behind on your videos and coming back to see this? This is a dream come true. This is, without a doubt, THE video I've been waiting for. Bulkhead is my FAVORITE Transformer ever and I barely know anything about him, I just know that he is MY character archetype. Even Energon Bulkhead is kind of amusing, but Animated onward is what made me fall in love with the big ball of dope, and I have been literally waiting for you to do an episode on him since I found your channel years ago. Now, I can finally be at peace. Thank you.
I absolutely adore Animated Bulkhead and I hate how despite being one of the show's breakout characters, his G1 import appearances have been limited to cameos, he didn't make it into Cyberverse and is overshadowed by his Aligned counterpart who everyone seems to consider his definitive incarnation. His Legacy toy is fantastic though.
This is how I feel about the characters named Barricade. The live-action and IDW incarnations of that said character really stole the spotlight that the previous G1 Micromaster. And the Siege version of Barricade is by far favorite toy of him. It totally makes sense that he’d be a redeco of Prowl.
I love Bulkhead! Hes a great big ol dude! I really feel that Hound in the movies, should have been Bulkhead! Voiced by Patrick in animated and the marvelous Kevin Michael Richardson in Prime! He's one of those characters that's really down to earth and just feels really comfy any time hes on screen! ❤ his face also kinda looks really sweet like the old Iron Giant, my favorite movie ever!
@@PanthEr6489 bahahaha, God I loved that episode and how they assume robots run the planet when its opposite XD well for now honestly I'm suprised Sumdac didn't create the matrix *Film the Matrix film robot not the Matrix from TF*
Bulkhead is quite the beloved character but his TF: Animated design reminds me a bi of Chomp from The Mighty Orbots. ( You have to be really steeped in 80s nostalgia to remember that one!)
The first incarnation of Bulkhead is not really Bulkhead, in the Japanese version of Energon, Superlink (which came before Energon), he was Originally called "Sprung", which is the same name G1 Springer has in Transformers G1 Series. So for me he is not, and never was Bulkhead, for me the best and only Bulkhead character started in Animated, then Prime, and I love that guy!
So, just as Energon Megatron was for me Galvatron the entire time, among others, Bulkhead was Sprung for you. I accept your headcanon and merge it with my own.
This is a long review coming, I have the Voyager Class Animated Bulkhead for my 7th birthday which is a pretty big day for me and I play with the toy almost everyday watching Transformers Animated. He is my fave bot from that series and one of the reasons why I love the big clumsy yet gentle hearted archetype.
