Hi
This video shows me changing a transit Mk7 Front wheel bearing on a front wheel drive van.
Two specialist tools you need:
Puller 10t or more
Long T50 Torx bit
You also need a decent socket set with a 36mm socket for the hub
Not many videos I found actually show this procedure exactly so I did one myself.
If this helped please consider buying me a coffee

Thanks
AJ

Just done mine with your nice bolt trick. I used M10 x 120mm bolts. You can also use the bolt too pull the breakdisk from the bearing. Everthing worked without the puller. But i installed premounted hub/bearing. Thanks so much for the Video.

Good luck, and watch you don't over tighten them putting them in or it may snap the T50 torx, and make sure its a long bit not a short one with an extender as it won't go through the holes in the disc.

You should have cleaned up the bearing to mounting face by draw filing to remove the gouges from chiseling it out during disassembly. Otherwise the threat of fretting could occur and loosen the clamping force and possibly break the mounting bolts later on down the track. Also the rust and scale should have been removed from the brake rotor again to stop fretting and bolts loosening, but especially so the rotors run true and don't cause pulsating brake action. Plus a little grease on the axle nut and washer and on the splines also on the wheel nuts and rim will go a long way to get closer torque on the fasteners and make it easier to remove the wheels and or hub again in the future. You also should have had a damn good feel of the CV joints while the hub was off to make sure they are up to snuff. I also think the manual states a dab of Locktite on the hub mounting hardware and definitely on the caliper bolts

Fantastic video. I’ve done the back bearings and discs on mine but yet to do the front. Can ya tell me what size bolts you used to separate from the carrier? Only criticism would be that you should’ve painted the callipers like a neon green or something………apparently it adds 17.6 horsepower 😀
@ajinfrance

Would of been easier to crack the hub nut while the wheel was on the floor,also you can pry the brake pads slightly and this makes taking the caliper off and putting back on.use a heat gun on the t50 bolts if they don't move with the required torque

I have just had the wheel bearings replaced on my Mark 7 Transit van. The mechanic explained to me that the brake pads and discs have to be replaced as the discs are invariably difficult to separate from the hub. Is this common practice?
@ajinfrance
@ajinfrance 3 года назад
Hi, I didn't have any problems, however the discs are not too expensive and you have to remove the hub to get them off so makes sense to do it.

I'm a Hgv mechanic, my father has a tourneo minibus on taxis. When replacing a wheel bearing the brake disc cracked under the pressure it took to remove the stub axle. Inconvenient because we were doing it on a sunday and nowhere open to get new discs, so he ended up missing a nights work. We would always order discs when ordering a bearing for one of these now.

@ajinfrance
@ajinfrance Год назад
Sometimes happens especially if the bearing has been subjected to heat when failing. I have a 3/4" drive 1.2m long bar for this exact situation. You have to heat the nut to within an inch of its life, so it's glowing red. Then stick the big 3/4" bar on. Good luck 🤞 I feel your pain .

@@ajinfrance I thought I'd let you know that I have one side nut off. I removed the T50 bolts no problem and then used a pulley puller to pull off hub assembly, all that happend was the drive shaft went out the other side (remember this is RWD). So now trying to find a way to get rear of bearing housing out of upright piece. I shall try the way you suggested above. I tried today as I remember the idea from viewing the video yesterday but forgot one important bit, that of leaving the bolts in that hold the front plate to the brake disc so this did not work. Watched again and need to do some refitting tomorrow and try again.
