Transit T-250 Transmission removal and replacement 

Thank you for posting this for others to see. this is definitely a shop type of job, but helping out the small business man that cant afford to take this to a shop, or in our case the church bus.

I just did one for the first time today. FedEx van that gets used on rural roads. Had a thick layer of gravel all underneath. Took a lil just over 6 hours out and in which I’ll take first time around! Those rear subframe bolts are a pain and definitely made me work to get them out. But we sell our install with new A arms and bolts due to them having to be cut out. You can sneak the tranny out with out removing the exhaust and removing the left o2 sensor. I left the driveshaft in. The subframe can be lowered with the power steering lines intact but you just have to unclip them from the subframe to give you enough slack to get out of your way.

While I know what I'm going to say isn't the proper thing by the book but it will help. My 3.7 T250 started having transmission problems around 45k miles. The torque converter would stay locked up mainly going down hills. Since I can't afford down time in my busy season and didn't want my cradle dropped. I used a pump to suck basically a gallon of fluid from the transmission. Filled back up and checked. Apparently mine wasn't full from factory and not quite a quarter short. The fluid that came out was OMG bad. I drove about 500 miles and did another gallon. After this change all my weird issues went away and has been great ever since. I do a gallon change about every 8k miles or every other oil change and the fluid I get out now looks decent. My van is not far off what these vans see as I'm basically loaded all the time and I'm sure very hard on the transmission. I also started locking it in 5th gear when I know it will hunt 5 to 6 to 5 to 6 I'll pay the extra fuel. Moral of the story keep good fluid in it even if getting the filter changed is something you can't or won't do

Getting ready to tackle one in a 2017 diesel. 90k on it and pure Michigan salt pickled. Horrible design that you can't even remove the pan to replace a filter and do a proper service. Great video thanks

Very good video, just bought a transit t-350 and the torque converter needs replaced. Any comments on changing the fluid and filter while out.

Bought one of these. Last guy had a Trans done on it. Damn front most sway bar bolt snapped off. I can't for the life of me get it to come loose to easily spin it out. 15" compound pliers. Gonna try going through the tunnel and try get a clear shot to drill it. Worst case.. subframe drop.

As a transmission tech for 30 years, there’s only a handful of vehicles I’ll send away . This is one of them due to another stupid ford design.

My transit is prematurely downshifting. It’s a 2016 gas non turbo with 73k miles. If I need a new transmission what would I be in for paying for one?

So you must have pulled the cross member on this before. It did kinda look like here was copper colored never anti seize AKA stripper glitter on the bolts. If not hope you bought that loto ticket brother.

Shouldn't Ford re - inner cover the AIR cleaner lid be a major Recall so rain stops running into engine...I have a lot of silicone and clear tubing re HACK the water/ ice away from my upside wire exposures ....

Hello, great videos. Really appreciate the detail and time you put into these. I have a 2018 ford transit 250 just received a transmission service required message the other day only came on for 20 min. I am going to do a transmission flush tomorrow, trans pan gasket replacement and a trans filter change at 80,000 miles. Gasket is wearing a very small amount. My problem is that it is very difficult to get the trans pan down bolts out trans filter out without doing some major work. Do you have any suggestions or tips on how I can easily get the pan and filter down to clean then to torque the bolts back up? By the way what are the torque specs on the trans pan bolts? Thanks so much for your help. Tony

Thank you. Have a 200k mid west Transit to do (ok, probably have it done; unless I can talk a buddy into a couple of weekends, as required). No lift, only so many get ups and down on the ground left in me. Ecoboost, thinking this would be a good time to look at replacing the manifolds (Ford has a new one out for this). Just thinking. Exhaust studs are always a joy. But -- probably missed this -- driveshaft bolts are replace on use? Why the catalyst replacement?

Would you recommend installing a remote filter on the transmission line?

I’m about to tackle this same job. Haven’t had one yet in my 15 years of doing r&r. Can’t you just cheat and sneak it out the back without removing the sub frame? Or bad idea

I got a 2015 Transit T250 3.7 non ecoboost...95,000 so far...i got a pump and replaced aprox 3.5 quarts of fluid out....and at 95,000 did it again...shocked on how black it looked.....i think LV..Fuid...it probably some of the problems...i owned 7 Ford Econoclines 250 and 350 and hever seen automatic transmission fluid look that bad....and they carrid same load as new transit...they ran Mercon...and Mercon 5...which i think is a thinker fluild....you are correct these engines dont have torque...and do shilt up and down alot...btw...what milegage do you usually see issues with these?,,Thanks

I know ford is great for stupid designing but having the frame directly under the pan, really💀💀🙄🙄

What horrible design I’ll never buy a ford again better off buying a older van and pay to have it restored.
