Is this the World’s best remote area touring bike? Some would say so.
Join these three Adventure Riders as they go to the heart of the Australian Outback and venture in some of the most remote and inhospitable country that the land down under has to offer.
In this vid, the Three Stooges continue heading towards Alice Springs, deep in the heart of Central Australia. They transit thru remote Aboriginal Communities including Kintore and Papunya, their only source for fuel and water. JP’s fractured ankle becomes swollen after he decides to walk Kings Canyon. When they finally depart Uluru some days later the Outback’s roads are sodden after unseasonal rain.

Great video. Really appreciate your commentary and doing a freeze frame of the road signs, etc so we can get our bearings. My family tried to drive to Alice when I was small, but the heat killed the car on the far side of Coober Pedy, forcing us to turn back, and we limped back 100's of Km home to SA (driving slowly, regularly re-filling what was left of radiator with super precious water). I was in Alice 10 days ago and it was a culture shock for someone who has lived his whole life in Melbourne and first trip to the NT. Went to that Liquorland and could not get over that there was 2 coppers standing at every bottle shop checking ID and asking multiple questions. Hi JAOM, yes, currently lots of Covid restrictions in relation to remote Communities. They do not have the infrastructure to deal with an outbreak and their tolerances are a little lower to white fella diseases and infections. Other than Camels, we did not see a lot of other wildlife. Very few roos (other than road kill) and very few Emus. They are out there (all with tails) but just not today.

This has brought back fond memories for me . I did pretty much this ride starting from Kalgoorlie meandering me way all over and eventually up to Darwin and of course back again visiting other areas and back roads on the way back to Kalgoorlie. This was done on my Harley and towing a trailer way back in 1990 when the Gulf war was going on and petrol prices went through the roof. I remember paying $2.30 a liter at the Alice and nearly choked on it . Some of the roads were that bad I had to remove the trailer and skull drag it and the bike through bull dust and loose sand in some cases a couple of hundred meters at a time. The corrugations had to be seen and experienced to believe how truly destructive they can be. And by contrast sometimes ride and tow at over 100 km/h But this was the best adventure I have ever had by far and would love to do it again but now too old to try repeat it. My only regret was doing this ride by myself and not with other like minded mates. About three years ago I did the central road from Kalgoorlie to Darwin in less than 48 hours pretty much non stop apart from filling the fuel from a 44 gallon drum in the van just to pick up a motorcycle and trailer I had bought on eBay. That was a fantastic experience and great drive too but most of the road at least when I went on it was pretty darn good and certainly better than some of our highways.

Hi Steve, great stuff I can almost smell you guys. I don’t mind the ink, was that planned? I’d do that but skinny arms, skinny legs with a fat gut and big arse does not make for a great canvas. The wrecked cars, what’s the go there? Joy rides or just drive them till they drop. Did not appear to be too many flies about, are they seasonal or localised?
@mongreldogproductions
@mongreldogproductions 2 года назад
Mick, what about shaving your head and get that inked...cant go wrong there. The cars are just wrecks that break down and are abandoned. If they are not recovered quickly (or not worth it) they just get trashed by vandals and usually torched. The flies are dictated by water availability. In good seasons they are out of control. When it is very dry they dont last long.

Hi mg, I thought you would have been a little curious when we passed each other. I check my oil regularly (very regularly)...it doesn't normally use any oil between services (every 10,000km). The engine has done 100,000km. The bike has started to use a bit of oil but not that much that it is a concern. We got to the Olgas/Uluru lookout and I had an oil warning light come on. The oil wasn't low but because i started the bike on a lean i think the engine thought it was low. With 1,200km of Outback to transit through i didnt want to take a chance. I went back and bought a litre of oil (and used 500ml of it). JP and Chris should start their own Channel...this one is all about me. Thanks for watching..next vid (final) out on Friday (I think).

Hi Gavin, the term is widely used ‘out here’ and is quite acceptable by most standards. If you were offended it wasn’t the intention. Thanks for watching.

I had to laugh at your picture of not the right foot ware for walking. Very interesting video of places I will never personally travel to but enjoyed seeing through your journey.

17:22 Is it an NT thing to have police guarding bottle shop entrances?
@mongreldogproductions
@mongreldogproductions 2 года назад
Correct. The Police have a shit list of people who are banned from buying alcohol and are attempting to reduce street drinking and violence in some communities and locations. Sad but true. Thanks for watching.

Good stuff Steve. It's obviously rained a bit out there with all the shrubs and grasses growing. That'd be why there are hardly any hoppers or emus near the tracks as they come to the drains for the last of the greenery when it's dry. I reckon it's a bit of luck to have some rain where it hardly gets a drop of H2o. Yes, it can make going a bit tricky but that just makes it more of a challenge you and better viewing for us stuck at home......

Hi Iggy, these remote communities had some serious restrictions placed on them due to Covid. They were trying to protect the locals from infection. That has recently changed (15 June) and all the communities are open now to travelers.

Hi MM NN, if I remember correctly, we did experience temps in the low 30's (Celcius). We did the trip in May...you wouldn't wanna be out there between November to April. Too bloody hot! Thanks for watching.

Steve, you just so lucky living there. Wish I had taken the plunge 40 yrs ago and emigrated, would've loved to drive those triples across the land and done the adventure bit on a bike, Think I ciould've made a good whinging Pom, as I turning out to be a grumpy old git here. Saying that we have a lot to be grumpy at over here. Ramblers getting tracks closed, MP's partying during lockdown, VOSA being buggers. fuel £8.50 a gallon, beer £4.50 a pint.

@mongreldogproductions 2 года назад
hahaha...'good' and 'whinging pom' should never be used in the same sentence. Our biggest problem is that more and more Outback roads are slowly (very slowly) being sealed but it is a long process. There is still a lot of Oz to be explored on an Adventure bike.

I'm a West Australian and I've always wondered if the aboriginal people won't speak the names of the dead and won't show images ie. Photos and video footage of the dead either how do they remember their ancestors and pass their stories on? Just genuinely curious would love to know if someone understands it better than me 🤠
