The valve body of the A604/41TE transmission is disassembled in Stratus, it also applies to vehicles from 1989 to 2011 such as: Voyager, Neon, Avenger, Journey, Town Country, Cirrus, Eclipse, etc.
The valve body is disassembled, inspected and tested. The TR (transmission range) gear selector is removed, the parking position is described to remove the transmission valve body, the shift lever spring is removed, 2/4 accumulator, 2/4 coupling rubber , manual valve and screws to separate the transfer plate, contamination is observed.
Various parts are identified: separator plate, transfer plate, valve body, thermostat, overdrive check valve, filter, plastic check balls, marked as 2 underdrive, 3 low reverse, 4 reverse and the transfer plate cylinder 5 overdrive.
The valves (TCC regulating valve, low reverse switch valve, converter clutch control valve, converter clutch switch valve, solenoid switch valve and regulating valve) are removed and identified. Cleaning is done to be able to test. polishing the surface as it presents marks due to pressure and dirt from the oil, it must be done with care not to scratch the cavities, the valves are damaged due to oil contamination.
The flatness is tested with a calibrated shim of 1.5 thousandths and a ruler, observing that there is no deformation.
The valves are installed to the valve body, lubricating with ATF (Automatic transmission fluid) automatic transmission oil, so that they do not run dry and so that tests can be carried out. The care for installing the valves in the cavities is mentioned.
With a Sonnax vacuum pump and pressure gauge, the different valves are tested to check their tightness, with information from Sonnax, the procedure and precautions are described to avoid errors in measurements, it is verified that only one valve is in good condition, The others have leaks that prevent their operation, another valve body must be obtained, which will be cleaned and the procedure described above will be carried out to be able to test it.
The recovered valve body is shown, it is contaminated and the considerations that must be taken when a part is found in these conditions are mentioned, as well as the original valve body of the transmission is compared against the recovered one.
The characteristics of all the springs are measured and a table is made to document them, it is measured; spring length, diameter, wire diameter and number of turns.
Tests are carried out on the valve body with the Sonnax equipment. It is verified that it is in good condition.
The valve body is assembled and the torque is given, with the data in the manual, with the precautions and order, the 2/4 accumulator is assembled with the spring and Teflon ring from the Transgo shift kit, it is placed the selector lever, TR, lever ratchet along with the other accessories. Tests are carried out on the TR and the temperature sensor
