basically its a screen to catch metal particles.. its not actually a filter to like clean the oil.

When it's hot, the dipstick should read around the middle to upper section of the crosshatch section?

IF POSSIBLE YOU CAN REUSE THE FACTORY GASKET IT WORKS VERY GOOD ... I THREW THE DURALAST GASKET AWAY . IJS TIP
