It's so refreshing to see honest and genuine reviews these days, especially when it comes to products like sunscreen. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

The rant was perfect! But unfortunately we live in a world of deception and greed. I have tried so many sunscreens. All lies. Supergoop, DRMTLGY are other good examples. Mineral sheer, nope! Universal tint, nope! And as soon as I leave a comment on one of these companies on social media, it’s taken down. It’s pretty frustrating. I’ve spent so much money on sunscreen.

Exactly dana. I was browsing and looking at their ingredients… wait a min this is not 100% mineral. But nobody mention it. Ever. Thx for calling them out❤

I appreciate your rant so much. After trying way too many sunscreens over the years and having issues, I was starting to think I was allergic to the minerals themselves. Then I learned about BS (hahaha that’s a great coincidence) from labmuffin and I was finally able to find a true mineral sunscreen I can use on my face. I really wish it wasn’t such a common ingredient and that companies would stop lying and green washing. Grrrr! Now I stick to my Summer Fridays spf and won’t ever waste any more money on sunscreens with BS in them. Thank you so much for always mentioning if sunscreens contain it!!

Thank you Dana for calling this out! Sunscreen is so expensive for the small amount we get, we really need more transparency from companies, as I for one can’t use BS in mineral sunscreens. If it wasn’t for lab muffin beauty science I may never have known what was irritating my skin, even dermatologists don’t tell us and I will always watch your videos because YOU do ❤

So many companies do this. They tout "clinically tested" and of course to anyone who has ever run a clinical test, no. And they say things like..."natural salicylic acid" and no. Willow bark extract is not salicylic acid. Always read the ingredients and ignore everything else.

Thank you so much! Very helpful. I had a horrific allergic reaction to the sunscreen La Roche posay spf 50 hydrating cream, I believe it’s a chemical sunscreen. I’m waiting to get allergy testing done to see what specific ingredient is causing me problems but until then I’m scared to use any chemical sunscreen because of my experience. I’m aware that it could be one of the inactive ingredients giving me problems but for now, I’m just working with the info I have. I seriously considered Colorscience due to them promoting themselves as a 100% mineral sunscreen. I’m glad I didn’t purchase this, you saved me money and potential skin irritation! Do you have any particular favourite fully mineral sunscreens?

Thank you so much for this video, I completely agree - the No Show Sunscreen could have been marketed as being excellent for having nearly no white cast, but it feels like gaslighting when I put it on and all their ads say it's transparent and I can clearly see a cast. Colorscience should feel more confident in their consumers being able to recognize that creating a zinc oxide product without a terrible cast can be very complicated and that we will still appreciate and love options even if it isn't completely 100% cast free. I imagine the product development team put their heart and soul into creating the No Show and I feel that the marketing team going for this angle and pulling stunts like having people with very dark complexions demo it as if there is 0 cast is a negative for the entire brand.

Yes!!! I HATE how Colorescience and some other company’s ads using people of very dark skin color don’t even use enough sunscreen in their demo videos. They use a tiny amount AND rub a lot, many times on the back of their hand or shoulder. I’m a POC, if I vigorously rub a minimal amount on the back of my hand it’ll disappear, but that’s not how it’s used in the face. Total false advertising. Thank you for calling out that spf booster ingredient too.

Irrespective of your arguments and reservations against some of the brand's practices, colorecience remains one of the best mineral sunscreens on the market in my humble opinion. It is my ride or die sunscreen that offers me ultimate sun protection and the most cosmetically elegant application as a Middle-Eastern man who has a medium skin tone and is battling melasma.
@DanaRipperton
@DanaRipperton Год назад
I thought I made it pretty clear that the sunscreens actually perform pretty great and have good protection. It’s the marketing I am not pleased with. Their shade range isn’t great though, but it’s always good when you can find one that works for you. Just as a reviewer I have to think of more shades than just mine. Thanks for watching 💕

I would like to point out that Colorescience indeed brings innovation to the world of sun protection due to their research on iron oxides and visible light protection. This is one of the very few brands whose claim on visible light protection is actually backed up by data. Colorescience uses a unique blend of red, yellow and black iron oxides, that have a specific size and shape. They were also one of the first brands to introduce a shade range into their tinted sunscreens as well as loose powder and make-up balms with SPF50. For these reasons I respect the brand very much, and I feel that their price is justified. However, I agree with you that the marketing of "no chemicals used" and "invisible on every skin tone" is disappointing. Even if they didn't use butyloctyl salicylate (which I personally don't have a gripe with), zinc oxide and every other ingredient is also a chemical. Nevertheless, these two issues are omnipresent in the sunscreen market, so I wouldn't assign more blame to Colorescience than to any other brand with similar marketing claims.

To be fair, other brands are doing just as much (if not more) work in the field of visible light protection. Bioderma, for example, has peer-reviewed papers comparing the visible light protection of some of their sunscreens.

@DanaRipperton
@DanaRipperton Год назад
I mean, I do like to point out that there’s nothing wrong with Butyloctyl Salicylate per say. It’s a safe ingredient, and I try to remind people that if there’s an allergy to stay away, but otherwise, it’s still safe

@Kl-gz4ng Год назад
@@DanaRipperton I got it. I noticed that even kids’ mineral sunscreen has this ingredient. I guess it’s safe for pregnant women as well. How about BHA in creams such as vanicream? It’s free of fragrance and good for people with Eczema but BHa

I completely agree that they have false advertisement but I don’t think it is worse than the level of false advertisement Ive seen from most cosmetic brands out there. Most sunscreen brands do not demonstrate how much of the product actually needs to be applied, even on fair skin models.

@@DanaRipperton Their product still serves its function as a sunscreen so wearing it won't hurt anyone. It's not like they are lying about it working as a sunscreen - so in my opinion, it is not much different than anything else I put on my face, unless they were lying about the SPF in it. I imagine it is just very hard to make a universally flattering anything. I think we as consumers are responsible for educating ourselves about cosmetic products and the regulations associated with them, and create/support laws that demand and enforce more transparency. This is the reason I watched your video and other's here on RU-vid - since I cannot trust the brands themselves to tell me about the range of possible experiences with their products. I hear your frustration though and I also want transparency and honesty from all brands and anywhere I spend my money. And Im also glad you made this video.

hi there. i enjoyed your video but, when i looked at the clip you used, i could see sunscreen on the hands of the user. colorescience recommends putting their product on two or three fingers (my small hands need 3 fingers) in order to get the 1/4 teaspoon. i could see two fingers on her left hand that had the new sunscreen . not sure if you saw that as well.

Yes, in the beginning she definitely has sunscreen on her fingers, but then when she goes to apply it to her face magically there is nothing. This sunscreen is white, so there’s no way it would go on without a trace. That’s why it’s so deceptive
