Hey guys and welcome to todays video where we are talking all things going on in the sunscreen industry - what are your thoughts, let me know in the comments below.. love you all x
It’s the price! These companies are charging way too much for something we all should be wearing. I had skin cancer on my leg. I always wear it on my face but was a little lazy on the body.
Ding, ding, ding! I think you nailed why U.S. sunscreen sales are down. You said exactly what I was thinking. I just placed my third Stylevana order to re-stock my Korean sunscreen supply. Wish I had included the new Beauty of Joseon because I ordered the original! Also like Isa Knox and Hara Hara Wonder. Congratulations on your re-branding launch!
Oh thank you so so much hun.. I think you will love the new BoJ one but I am sure there will be lots left for when you make your next order.. sending you so much love x
I think here in the USA there is a lot of miss information about sunscreen on social media. Some people believe that getting a sun burn is less harmful than using sunscreen. 🤦♀️ I’m in my 50’s and have been using sunscreen since my mid twenties, rain or shine. I tried different chemicals sunscreens but they burn my eyes, so I switched to mineral. Then I recently discovered Korean sunscreen. Beauty of JOSEON, Numbuzin, and Iunik are some I have tried. I will never buy US brands unless they reformulate their formulas.
Once American consumers discovered Asian sunscreens, there was no turning back. It's ridiculous that it's cheaper to pay for international shipping than to get worse products at the drug store.
I most enjoy Beauty of Joseon relief sun rice & probiotics; it serves as both moisturizer and sunscreen. It's discouraging when my face feels heavy with products, so less feels better. Moisturization and sun protection are most important!
Hiya Rob. Great video and loving the dialogue that its opened up here. I find that even after years of social media etc bombarding everyone with the importance of sunscreen, the average person on the street considers it a holiday item only. There is also a lot of ignorance about the sun and its affects on the skin also. The classic is that if its cloudy you cant get sunburn or sun damage, if you are indoors you are out of the sunlight ( if you were out of the sunlight it would be dark!), not knowing you can damage your skin from device screens etc. Does my head in. So of course Im constantly banging on about the importance of sunscreen to anyone who will listen. Have got the whole family now religious with the use ( including the stubborn hubby) and friends. As for the drop in sales, as some others here have said, I would put that down to the state of the economy. When people are trying to get enough money to feed their kids they are not going to be throwing it away on sunscreen. Us skincare enthusiasts are a different breed and we would probably sell one of the kids to have enough for skincare and sunscreen MAS crew to the end!! Have a great week xx
Hi Rob, sunscreen is very important to me living in Australia. I won’t let the Aussie sun take away my English skin. At 59 I have no wrinkles my Daughter even said so in surprise recently if you want sun and heat come down to Sydney we had 30 degrees in our Winter last week lol thank god for my air conditioning. Take care
Yeah that's what I use on my kid for the pool is truly a great sunscreen. We are big fans of MAS sunscreen I gotten the hubby, uncle and cousins to use it and the lobe it
@@alainaartiles165 I have Lupus so sunscreen isn't a skincare thing to me. It's a medical necessity. The kids one is the ultimate in the sunny weather! The shine though!
With autoimmune disease, I have had to purchase Eucerin Skin Allergy 50 SPF Sunscreen from Care to Beauty based in Portugal. They carry many skin care products available only in Europe. It keeps me from breaking out in hives from head to toe. It isn't great for daily skin care for my face however. I can't wait to try one of your options - especially the Nambuzin! Flushing and redness are a real problem for me. Thanks!
I think you are absolutely right, I believe more and more people are understanding more the importance of sunscreen and the variety and technology. Yes people become more savvy, why not pay reasonable prices and better quality products.
I ordered some new Korean sunscreens today before watching your new video - the new BoJ one, the Jumiso and the Seoul 1988 spf. Can’t wait to try them! And thank you for the new upload! ☀️☀️☀️Sunscreen videos are my favorite content, I have discovered so many great options through your channel, including the one from the MAS collection ( which I am planning on repurchasing when we approach the cooler months)! ☀️☀️☀️
I bet sunscreen sales are also down because it’s becoming clearer which products are even worth trying. I know a lot of us have gone through the process of buying many different sunscreens that turned out to be awful. So we were buying more sunscreens without using up the ones we already had. Now many of us have found our ideal sunscreens that we use up entirely. And people who are new to the market see our reviews and recommendations, so they are far more likely to purchase a good formula than we were (at least in the US) even just 5 years ago.
I live in South Africa where sunscreen is non negotiable step in skin care. I have always hated sunscreen. I’ve tried most of the well known brands and invariably they are heavy, oily, they make my eyes sting and or they pill on my skin. I have come across 1 or 2 very mediocre sunscreens brands here, and then it drives me crazy cause they are only available in 50ml. When I started getting into K Beauty about a year ago (yes I was very late to the party) I stumbled across a virtually unknown brand called Derma B and they have an SPF 50 that comes in 200ml. And it’s budget friendly. This has been a total game changer. Now I understand why people can’t stop talking about Korean Sunscreens. The Derma B Spf 50 is incredibly lightweight yet moisturising. It’s not at all oily or greasy. It doesn’t sting my eyes and it doesn’t pill. It’s a dream to use.
Yay I am so so happy to hear that korean sunscreens are working so well for you hun thank you so much for sharing and sending you so much love to SA xx
I got into Korean Beauty during Covid. Thank God a lot of great brands r available at TJ Maxx at a fraction of AMAZON. Thx for the Rec-I never heard of Derma B but it's available on Amazon at a great $. Will ck into it after using up my current BOJ and Dominas.
You're absolutely right about US sunscreens. I despise them, & I'd given up trying to find one that didn't sting or make a mess of my skin. Korean sunscreen changed that, & I'm not interested in trying US brands anymore. I tried the Krave Beet one & even that stung like crazy. Definitely the ingredients!
I've been on a sunscreen journey since 1980. I read an article back then from a Dr Kligman who said 80% of aging was caused by sun exposure. He demonstrated this by showing facial skin from an 80yr old woman and then compared it with a skin sample from her buttocks. You can imagine! I lived in Africa at the time and people were always saying how beautiful my skin was (celtic type 2:52 I took the good doctors advice and began wearing sunscreen. In 44 years i have never missed a day putting it on my face. Fast forward (and jeez it is ff) I am now 71 and wrinkle free. A dermatologist told me i don't even have fine lines. So i have managed to overide my Irish skin which doesn't age well and keep it looking good.
Hi Rob❣️I find that moisturizers and sunscreens are the most difficult products to get right. I have tried so so many sunscreens ( all the new filters, korean sunscreens …) but as soon as I use a chemical sunscreen I turn red after an hour or less. So I’ve tried lots of physical ones and they have left my skin bone dry instead. I’m currently trying out the Paulas choice daily moisturizing lotion broad spectrum SPF 30 for dry - very dry skin and that one seems to work quite well for my skin right now…. I’m not a big fan of that brand in general but this sunscreen seems to agree with my skin… so far. Great video as always❣️
Sometimes, when I’m not mentally doing well, I will skip my skin care routine, but I always put on sunscreen. I use MaS, Beauty of Joseon and La Roche-Posay
MAS sunscreen is my all time favorite! I was super sensitive as I started Adapolene (retinoid) and I had to take a break from almost all my skincare. The only thing that didn’t burn was petroleum jelly, glycerin soap I was using before as hand soap, and MAS sunscreen! ❤
Yay this makes me so happy to hear as I know a lot of people have issues with sunscreens being sensitising so it makes me super happy to know the MAS one isnt.. love you xx
it's probably on the contrary people are wearing more sunscreen, but not purchasing sunscreen from uk, us or Canada. we are turned to asian sunscreen for good! price texture and variety win
Coucou! 💯 agree with you that sunscreen ist tu ultimativ mon plus Ultra in every Skin care Routine! I just checked out your Website and i wondered if you could do a vidéo with presenting all of your products like what they are doing, which ingredients they have, when to use which step etc Love from Austria and thank you again for your very appreciated work! ❤️
Living in Australia, especially with hotter weather returning, water resistant sunscreen is a non-negotiable for me due to sweat. Cancer Council Sensitive Sunscreen on my eye area to avoid eye sting. Bondi Sands Hydra line for the rest of my face. Affordable supermarket brand SPF for the body. I love the wonderful K-sunscreens and can get away with wearing them in the middle of winter, but sadly not any other time of year. Looking into J-sunscreens in the near future however, as there appear to be more water-resistant options there.
There was a video from an Australian RU-vidr on this topic! Indeed in Australia you need strong reliable products and I find Asian sunscreens are not water resistant (because they don’t really go to the beach like the rest of the world do)
i know you didn't say that the product recommendations in this video are cruelty-free, but i just want to put out here that somebymi is *not* a cruelty-free brand. they export products to China, where animal testing is required for products that are to be sold there. quite a shame since i quite enjoyed some of their products before i found out. also, all of their v10 hyal sunscreens are unfortunately heavily fragranced.
I am relatively new to K Beauty, and learned so much from you, really appreciate your explanation of the benefits of different ingredients, you got me hooked on Growth factors Allies of Skin, and I now feel educated enough to order a new SPF. Would you know whether there are any K Beauty Advent calendars coming up?
Oh thank you so much hun and your support means so much to me.. I have been sent some of the calendars already this year so I know Stylevana and yes style are doing one but I am not sure others are.. love xx
I’m in Germany, use Bondi Sands 500ml face&body sunscreen 50+. It’s a big bottle with pump, and I’ve almost finished it. I do also have LRP UVmune 50+ unscented moisturizing sunscreen. And two from ultra violette, fave fluid and illuminating drops, both 50+, use them when I feel extra fancy:)
Oh I know what you mean about the illuminating drops, they are lovely but the price is a little up there so its a great treat product for sure., love x
People are working from home, and don’t need to use sunscreen everyday. I use the MAS sunscreen. I also use it as a moisturizer in the morning , so it is perfect for me.
I think this is a really good point hun with more people working from home now.. thank you so much for all the love you show the brand it means the world to me.. love x
Actually many derms say that even indoors you should be using sunscreen. UV lights come through your windows and emanate from many lightbulbs. Dr. Davin Lim, an Australian derm highly recommends La Roche Posay.
I stopped buying sunscreen at local retailers completely for the last 2 years. I order all K beauty items including sunscreen from Style Korean. Alot cheaper in price and my skin likes it much better plus doesn't burn my eyes
Thank you so so much hun, your support means a lot and the fact people can use it under makeup is amazing as I find so many sunscreens you cant.. love x
When the Purito's Centella Green sunscreen was revealed by an independent test to have an SPF rating of 19 (a lot less than its product label of SPF 50), I stopped buying sunscreens from Korea - is that wrong? (sorry the trust is broken). I tend to go for more well known drugstore sunscreens (may give yours a try since I like a lot of your other serums. ❤❤❤love ya!
Eh, not necessarily wrong, but that proved to be an issue with a particular manufacturer of that product, Purito addressed the issue quickly and have stopped using that manufacturer entirely. Other companies followed suit. It's not something I'm personally worried about.
Hi hun, no I dont think thats wrong at all, we had to do what feels right to us and if you dont have the trust in korean sunscreens then I wouldn't buy them.. makes total sense to me.. love x
I’m really loving the Beauty of Joseon rice probiotics spf and the ginseng one lost count of how many I’ve bought 😅 I also like the Byoma one which is nice and lightweight but wish it was spf 50. I’ve started using the sculpted by Aimee face spray spf 50 which is lovely over makeup 😅 I also like your spf 😊
The only US sunscreen I use on my face is from Vanicream. It’s one of two sunscreens that don’t irritate my eyes. Everything else is Korean. I wish the Korean sunscreens hadn’t started adding butyloctyl salicylate. I can’t even try the ones that have it because of an allergy to all salicylates.
Hey Rob. This is totally off topic but I wonder what you think about the new Nivea serum q10+Glycostop? Is sugar really that bad for elastin and collagen? I hope you can enlighten. Thank you so much for the knowledge you share us. I’m always very enthusiastic to watch your new content.
@@MadAboutSkinIt’s nothing! That would be awesome if you could make a video about the effects of sugar on the skin. And thank you once again from my skin for making it look so much better. xx

Let’s don’t forget about sunscreen for the body too 😊
I'm really glad I don't live in the US regarding the sunscreens 😂 the sunscreens for the face I don't like I just finish up on my body so nothing goes to waste 😊
I think all these influencers who say they cause cancer and people like Nara Smith making it has impacted sales as well. It seems to be a growing trend.
I personally only use it if I'm outside for long periods or on holiday. Wearing sunscreen stops the absorption of vitamin d. Consuming vit d in tablet form is nowhere near as effective as through the skin. Due to wearing sunscreen all the time in children, we've seen a return of rickets, which I'd scary. Second, I don't touch chemical sunscreen, I will only use mineral sunscreen. My personal favourite is one by tropica, I love those.
Has it really been proven for vitamine D ? Also I don’t put sunscreen on my arms or hands (unless it’s summer and I know I will have a long strong exposure), so I don’t worry much about that. Honestly chemical vs mineral is a question of comfort. For me, mineral sunscreens make me breakout (some chemicals too, but not the Korean ones), and they feel sticky I hate it.
It only takes 15-20 min exposure to get your daily vitamin d supply from the sun even on other parts of your body so sunscreen should not be a problem but I always supplement from October to April
I live in Thailand and bought a load of sunscreen about 9 months ago to try all the new Korean and Japanese launches, so I’ve not bought for a while because I have so much already
Isntree watery hyaluronic sunscreen gel cream spf 50 PA +++ is divine. Can you explain what the +++ means please? Australian made sunscreens are cheap and amazing too. Cancer Council kids sunscreen 50+ is brilliant.
@MadAboutSkin I live in the USA. I am not a fan of our sunscreens.. The Dr Ceuracle is so nice it soaks in so fast, and after applying it, I don't feel it on my skin the best I have tried I'm going to pick up a 2 pack on olive young. I would like to try the Numbuzin sunscreen you recommend. Thank you ❤️
Unfortunately this isn't possible as brands don't always use the PA rating (this is specific to Korean sunscreen usually)... All of the ones here are the equivalent of PA++++ though different ways of displaying UVA protection are used.. lovd
