GREAT advise and tips!! I've been at this trapping thing for "while" and I can tell you that listening to the trapper that says "This is what I do." instead of the ones that say "You need to do it this way." is going to be the way to go. I always tell people "Learn the 'rule book and then throw it away.". Be open minded.. Bonus tip... You CAN force coyotes to step where you want them to... I once used a discarded Christmas tree as blocking :)
For how I do not worry about the angle of the hole is I take the fur from my coydog that sheds and put that over the hole after I put my bait in it . I do the same way when I use the type of hole with the trench that you use but I also put fur over the hole . If I do not have fur , I use dry grass. It makes them work the hole more use one or the other . As for how far to set the trap. It is at times like you do or further back about 18 inches . I notice I get more of the older ones that way . Just what I see for how they work the set on me.
Your spot on Dale, so many times that all depends on the ground that you have to work with , and if I dont really pay attention to that I can get the placement off very easy. Good luck with the enrollment in your class.
Yup, it is good info and hopefully trappers will start to see rather than just look. Fox and coyote both will tell you exactly where the trap should be placed but few people understand the why of it. They never correlate the angle of their holes to why they miss plus the inherent behavior of the canine!!! Trappers seem to want to tell the fox & coyote where they (the fox or coyote) SHOULD place their paw instead of listening to what the canines are telling them!!
Archery First there's a lot of new and young trappers who don't know this information. And when they ask no one explains this to them. Hopefully this video helps them out some. I appreciate you watching
If your bored could you do a video on how the weather/moon effects beaver travel? Or point me in the direction if you have all ready covered this?? Thanks Dale.
Ferengiprofiteer I can almost guarantee you that they can see in the bottom of that dirt hole at night. Their eye sight is so far superior to ours it's not even a contest.
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 One thing about it, I have a vast storehouse of ignorance on the subject compared to real trappers. I have 150 acres and 12 footholds and 6 dps. I consistently catch coons and possums. Bobcats cooperate pretty often. I either don't have near as many coyotes as it sounds like every evening or I've got a lot to learn about catching them. It can't just be that other critters get there first because I go days without a catch.
